I learned something today. I don’t like it. AT ALL. Giants killing Brewers. 13-3 in 8th inning. Brewers use a position player to pitch. Pitch is thrown about a foot outside. Umpire calls it a strike. Easy challenge…. but….. apparently you are not allowed to challenge a strike call when a position player is on the mound! WTF! So MLB is basically saying the umpires can do whatever they want regardless of where the ball is thrown.

I think the team that is trying to put a non pitcher in to pitch should just forfeit.

Remember, there are live bets on over/under, how many hits a particular player will get, etc…
link to original post

I think that might have to do with the way the robo-ump looks at pitches. When position players pitch a lot of them are using lobs now and if they're a strike they are probably going to come down through the top of the strike zone, and it's unclear if the robot can see that and call it a strike. The strike zone is supposed to be a 3D object but on TV we see it as 2D and I think the robot might as well. As far as I know no pitcher uses a lob anymore and I don't think there are any active knuckleballers either.
link to original post

Nope. It’s clearly just to speed the game up. The robo ump can see where a 50mph pitch crosses the plate just as easily as a 100mph pitch. There are quite a few knuckleballers still active. I wouldn’t want to face Gerritt Cole’s knuckle curve. Or Nola. Matt Waldron throws a non curving knuckleball.
link to original post

OK, I haven't dived deep into the robo-umping. Not a fan of it really.

Knuckle curves are no relation to actual knuckleballs. The real knuckleball has no spin and you grip it kind of with your fingernails and the first knuckles of your fingers. They have to take obsessive care with their nails. The motion is kind of like flicking water at someone in the pool with your fingertips. I looked it up and yes Waldron throws one but as a change. Many of them threw the knuckleball exclusively and that was something they developed because they didn't have the velocity to throw an effective fastball, so they didn't try to throw anything else.

This all just came into my head because I seem to remember a position player going out there and throwing knuckleballs, years back.
link to original post

The position player two days ago DID throw a knuckleball or two.

My point is more that if you take the mound at that point you are not a position player. You are a pitcher. And the rules should be the same for all pitchers.

Both Caesars and FanDuel are in a (great for players) promotion. They are cutting their vigs in half for money line MLB.
An example. If DraftKings has
Team A -130. Team B. +110

FD will have
Team A -125. Team B +115

So if you compare lines on FD and Caesars, you can occasionally almost find free money. And using the profit boosts, you can find easy free money. Will pay for today’s (low rent) bar crawl starting soon.

Reading article on WNBA bet prediction for Liberty/Aces. Marquis matchup for WNBA. National TV for league trying to have a single story about it without the word ‘transgender’ in it. Trying to get some eyes on the actual product.

Article says Liberty are good bet as 1.5 point favorites as Aces playing 3rd game in 3 days, including yesterday, and this is a day game making for quick turnaround.

Except Liberty are now 9.5 point favorites! Gee, I wonder if the Aces are going to ‘load management’ their top 3 players? They have a bunch of ‘questionables’ but I sense the bookies know ‘questionable’ means Wilson, Young, and Gray aren’t playing!!! (Those 3 score around 2/3 of Aces points).

But forget the gambling aspect, this is a league trying to develop a fan base, and will put a forfeit on national TV.

a pick for today in a game that starts in about 1 hour at 1:40

this is one where I believe there is a fave/longshot bias - better odds on the fave because it pays so much less

Marlins - 140 over Angels

Marlins are 35-24 at home, Angels are 20-39 on the road

the Marlins pitcher is not great but the Angels pitcher Rodriguez is very weak with 7.24 era

the Marlins have a shot at getting into the playoffs, the Angles have almost no chance of doing so

"The Marlins have a better bullpen to relieve Gusto and they will face a struggling Angels offense that has scored an average of just 2.3 runs in their last 10 games."

Forfeit complete. Lost by 40. That hard to do in a 40 minute game. Only the second WNBA game decided by that many points this year. The first? Aces lose to Lynx. Wanna guess which players didn’t play for the Aces in that game?

An embarrassing league. Player nearly decapitates another player. Gets tossed. Complains about ‘white privilege’.

Their commissioner can’t come up with a coherent answer about why two retired male NBA players should not be allowed in the WNBA.

Whiter player once nearly decapitated a black player last year, White player can dish it out but can't take it.

"Because they are men with intact man parts. That's why. But if those two want to go full Caitlyn Jenner and go snippy-snippy, have at it. I hear medical care is top notch but less expensive in Turkey" is all anyone needs to say or hear.

As for load management, I trust the head coach and the team to worry about the best interest for the team. The fans will understand. And the team, the players, the league shouldn't care one bit about the bookies or the bettors.

Yeah it's become a disgrace. Female sports aren't new, there's a place for them, but they have to accept that their best teams could not beat a good boys' high school team and they will never be popular in the mass market. It's like the Special Olympics. Nothing wrong with the Special Olympics, it means a lot to the competitors, but they will never be our sports heroes or anything more than a charity.

I blame ESPN, and their shoving "Lesbian Layups" down our throats 24 hours a day, for some reason that has nothing to do with sports or entertaining the public, and causing those players to think they are something they are not. The best role they could have is as role models to young girls who like sports, but with them putting their proclivities on display, violent unsportsmanlike conduct on display, and now attitudes about race on display they can't even be that. Nobody wants their daughters being influenced by that, a move like we saw being used on Sophie Cunningham the other day. That's a move a girl should only learn to use on a boy who tries to pull her into a bedroom at a house party, not on a basketball court.

And I mentioned in another venue recently that WNBA is getting close to the point where it can be considered a "worked" competition like professional wrestling and Nevada may have an objection to taking action on it. If they allow males to compete then the 'W' in WNBA is a deceptive description of the event, how can they allow betting on it?

The disgrace is the continued discussion over the sexual dimorphism in humans. It isn't the women ginning up the controversy. It's the members of the He-Man Women Haters Club. Newsflash, women aren't trying to compete against anyone but other women.

They are putting their proclivities of elite skilled women's basketball on display. Violent unsportsmanlike conduct? Attitudes about race? Sounds like something they learned from the men. Cunningham layed out a player last season. She can dish it out, but she can't take it. She should worry more about trying to make the starting lineup.

The WNBA has worked out rules for whom is eligible to play in their league and have published those rules. Reportedly, their rules say that men who state that they identify as women are eligible to play in the WNBA. Without putting any qualifiers on that eligibility statement.

I think it's interesting that many people on social media are now trying to change the gateway for defining what is "a man who identifies as a woman." There is nothing in the WNBA eligibility rules about getting your male parts snipped off, or being on estrogen. Indeed, most trans advocates have been adamant that the only criteria that matters is that the man states that he identifies as a woman. "That is all that matters" has been their mantra, repeated ad nauseum.

So, if the WNBA does not abide by their published, unambiguous eligibility rule, they will most likely be sued into the Stone Age by Enis Canter Freedom and Royce White. Enis and Royce will win their lawsuit because you can't publish unambiguous eligibility rules and then deny eligiblity simply because you don't want certain people to participate.

The WNBA provides moments that are the ugliest sports moments I have ever seen. And they are grossly mismanaged; just completely inept. If they were a publicly traded business, would anyone invest in them?

Braves about over Mets today - searching for best odds I noticed there is a substantial difference between books

searching I found that Kalshi offered best odds - here is what I found from a google search:

"Kalshi lists the Atlanta Braves as the favorite at a 55% implied probability (Yes shares trading at 56¢, No at 46¢) and the New York Mets at a 45% implied probability (Yes shares at 45¢, No at 57¢)."

a 57% implied probability translates to a moneyline of -133

edit - the line is rapidly chaning - you may not be able to get a moneyline this good - but Kashi probably has the best deal

unscientific observation - the best lines on a strong fave seem to me to be very early lines - the lines seem to get worse for the fave as the day goes on

betting very early you might miss important updates which could help or hurt your cause

Can you please cite this published, unambiguous policy that specifically allows these two gadflies eligibility?

If you think some of the on court actions in the WNBA are some of the ugliest sports moments you've ever seen, then you must not watch much sports and certainly not over the years.

Since this is a gambling website and a sports betting thread, how much are you willing to bet that these two gadflies will never get anywhere near the WNBA draft and their stunt will fail spectacularly?

Oh I am sure they will never make a team. Likely scenario: they will be allowed to try out, they will excel with double or triple the performance of any female player, and then, with a wink and a nod, the owners will say "Sorry, you don't make the cut, because homina homina homina oh look over there a squirrel!" and the event will go down the media memory hole and the WNBA will get ready for another year of being a disgrace.

If either Enis Freedom or Royce White does play in the WNBA, the first game will be one of the higher rated sports events in television history.

Could this be the next player to declare for the WNBA?

Enis and Royce will never play in the W. But they are putting the (grossly incompetent) W leadership in a position they don’t want to be in. The wacko left does say that anyone who ‘declares’ they are a woman is a woman. And now the W is being forced to say ‘it ain’t so’.

As far as Geno’s point about the ‘fans understand’ when a team forfeits like the Aces have now done twice this year, yes, they understand! They understand that they were mislead when they bought their tickets that they were going to see two teams whose management was going to try their hardest to win that game. And they were (de facto) lied to.

They play a 40+ game schedule of 40 minute games. Give me a break that these world class athletes are too tired to play on consecutive nights.

They claim the Aces coach did that out of petulance over a scheduling dispute.

Anybody believe that's the only reason?

Tanking, forfeiting, anything but playing to win with maximum reasonable effort puts a stink of corruption on a game that lingers and affects the whole league. I would not bet anything on anything in that league

Last I checked 'the left" and the 'W leadership" are two distinct entities, independent of each other. And one doesn't have to answer for the other.

We can add "pro woman athletes' to the list of people SooPoo doesn't like.

As of now no however when head coaches and players are saying they should allow trans to play I don’t know how that can be considered pro women. This will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I neither like nor dislike women because they are or are not pro athletes. I can appreciate the hard work and talent they exhibit. And their love of competition.

But the product they put on sometimes is just poor when compared with their male counterparts. It’s been mentioned that a WNBA team gets smoked by a good high school boys team. I’m not watching HS boys basketball.

I just googled SECOND serve speed for Zverev and 1st serve speed for Pegula. 107 and 97. Women’s tennis is like slow motion compared to men’s.

Woman average drive 45 yards shorter than male counterparts. LPGA courses average 900 yards shorter.

Last one…. Male high school mile 3:53. Female WORLD RECORD mile 4:06.

There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with women pro athletes……. just the innate biological differences make it like they play a different sport than their male counterparts.

Again, what does the sexual dimorphism of humans have to do with anything? So women suffer in comparison to their male counterparts? So what? In other news, water is wet. It isn't how women fare competing against men, It's how women fare competing against other women. Pitting women versus men is just foolishness. Only people who think women deserve a lesser place in society continue to do so.

Are you willing to put money on either of these two ex-NBA pinheads playing in the WNBA and at what odds? If not, then maybe just drop it.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I sure do. So does Google.

YouTube (a Google property) does not allow female toplessness in videos with the exception of breastfeeding an infant. There are no infants being breastfed in this video. Yes, the tattoos match the ones visible in mainstream footage of Britney Greiner.

Therefore, logic compels me to conclude Britney Greiner is actually a male.

The WNBA has already allowed a trans (MTF) to play in their league (And that's not even counting Brittany Griner). So, I'd be willing to bet that there will be a lawsuit brought by Royce White if the WNBA does not allow Royce White to be eligible to play.

I would bet that WNBA game television ratings will go down as people vote their pocketbooks and refuse to support the league.

I would bet that if Enis or Royce play in an WNBA game that the first game they play in will have higher ratings than the NBA finals.

I don't know, that video has been up for many years, with no age restrictions for viewing, and I do not believe YouTube has any exception in their nudity policy for flat-chested women. If they did it would be loaded with a particular genre of porn.

Just a reminder that these posts are supposed to be about sports and betting on sports, and not about me and your opinion of me, nor your tiresome indictments of other members.

Griner doesn't count, since she's all woman.

Care to place a bet and at your own odds about the lawsuit and the verdict?

Care to place a bet that White or Kantor will put their money where their mouths are and go snippy-snippy and MTF to play? I mean, that's what serious athletes do, they commit to the bit and willing to make sacrifices to win.

Rays - 1.5 over Athletics - 114 -

very obvious pick - strong team against a weak team, strong pitcher against a weak pitcher - (highest consensus pick at covers.com with 76% picking the Rays - that's about as high as I've ever seen there)

the moneyline pays too little - trying to get some more $ by using the run line

92% are picking the Rays at DK, got -117 for your pick ... don't know what it might have been earlier

so I am playing along, thanks for doing the work. I'm not willing to do it because I have found you have to respect the oddsmakers ... who in this case have chased you off the moneyline

Bad news for you. I’ve taken the Rays ML for this game as my ‘best bet’ of the night. I added the -1.5 line in a boosted parlay as well.

I love my correlated parlays. Had Phillies/over/Stott hit. Was a low scoring close game, that only won all three partly due to Stott’s late hits.

Rays -1.5 -135 over Athletics

same deal as yesterday - very strong team and pitcher v. very weak team and pitcher

the As have won only one of the last 10 games in which Perkins has pitched

can't get as good a price as yesterday though

Nationals v. Mets over 8.5 runs - -115

the 2 teams average about 9.5 runs

the Mets starter is very weak

Let’s dig deeper. Nats gave up their #1 slugger that helped them get to their high run scored total. Their #2 slugger is out injured. Their pitcher has been great of late. Only 6 runs last 3 starts.
The ‘weak’ Mets pitcher had a great first start. Giving up only one run. He got torched in his second start and was left in (inexplicably?) to give up a boatload of runs. I’m not saying he’s good, but his stats will be skewed bad for quite a while after the single 8 runs in 3 innings start.

Yesterday had offer to win some free bets. Needed to get on a total bases bet, and if your player gets the most, you win the free bets. Schwarber came through with 2 homers. I even got +odds on the base bet of 2 or more total bases.

Knicks open in MSG as 4.5 point faves….. over the 76ers!

you made some great points
I think this pick was not a good one - my bad
I should have dug deeper
kinna strange that the line was skewed so that the worse deal came on the over though
I thought about withdrawing the pick (is that allowed -?) - but I'll let it stand and hope to get lucky

Makes sense that the 76ers will be a work in progress at the beginning of the season given the addition of Lebron and Jaylen Brown to the pre-existing roster. Who's the #1 scoring option? What roles does everyone play on offense and defense? By contrast, the Knicks obviously function well as a team.

you have been right on these so far so I'll go for it again
