Introduction

On Monday, November 27th, 2023 the Miami Dolphins announced that they are going to sign the veteran NFL defensive end / linebacker, Jason Pierre - Paul, in order to replace the Miami Dolphins injured linebacker in Jaelan Phillips who unfortunately just suffered a serious and season - ending Achilles injury last Friday, November 24th, 2023 during the NFL’s 1st - ever Black Friday game against the New York Jets.

The native of South Florida, Pierre - Paul, who had previously signed with the New Orleans Saints back on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023, and he was participating on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad will now join his hometown team in the Miami Dolphins whose defense has been playing very well as of lately.

Social Media Presence

Pierre - Paul posted this to his Instagram account: "I would like to thank the New Orleans Saints and the organization for giving me the opportunity to play for them. I can't even lie it was a hard decision to make, to all the guys in the locker room. I appreciate y'all accepting me as a teammate, and to all the coaches appreciate you guys for believing in me.

"I'M COMING HOME."

Replacing Jaelan Phillips

Pierre - Paul was originally a 1st - round NFL draft pick of the New York Giants back in 2010, and Jason has recorded 94.5 - career sacks over the course of his very successful 14 - season NFL career in which he has overcame many injuries to help his teams win.

Phillips suffered a devastating torn Achilles during the Miami Dolphins’ last week's 34 to 13 victory over the New York Jets. The Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told the major sports media outlets after the game that the team is confident in their depth players' ability to fill the void left by Phillips, as they have some definite game changing defensive players such as their linebackers Bradley Chubb, Andrew Van Ginkel, and David Long Jr.

With that said, there is no expectation that any player the Miami Dolphins has available to them can overall replace Phillips, who was currently tied for the Miami Dolphins lead with 6.5 - sacks throughout the 2023 - 2024 NFL season. He was becoming a star NFL linebacker as well as a team leader for the Miami Dolphins who will surely miss him and his presence for the remainder of the season.

"You don't necessarily replace Jaelan Phillips. But you can have guys that are fully capable to step up and kind of get his production through different ways," the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Mike McDaniel, explained. "We are fortunate enough to have some depth ... You don't necessarily replace him, but it just gives different people opportunities and you kind of spread that out to do your best to compensate for that production loss."
