yes, but I don't know why he would make a prediction like that unless he decided to use very strong language to try and influence monetary policy towards what he thinks is best

no human being and no computer can accurately predict that - there are just too many factors and variables

there have been a ton of predictions of financial collapse since the Great Depression - we've had some tough times - but never anything like 1929 - and hopefully we've learned some things to help us avoid that

Munger has correctly predicated 8 of the last 2 recessions.

Brave is a free browser based on Chromium. They make their money by selling add-ons like VPN's and other stuff.

The headline is misleading. Watch the video. Munger is always worth listening to. Rather than predicting disaster I would say he offers some perspective and highlights some things to worry about.

The first link is a link to their web page. Not a download link.

The second is a link to a Youtube video about the Brave browser. He explains they block pop up adds and replace them with their own 'Brave approved' banner adds.

This Link explains their private ads.

When you use it to visit a webpage, it displays the number of trackers and ads blocked.

For example, using it to visit WOV, it displays '5 trackers, ads and more blocked'.

When I first looked into VR, programmers were creating simulations of sports and reproducing real world fitness classes.

Why have a typical fitness class in VR with motivational instructor up front when VR participant can actually go to a new sport activity appearing for each new exercise. so Instead of kick to the right, kick to left.... Instead of squats you could be water skiing bouncing over waves. Then Baseball pitching. Then Soccer ball kicking. Then Jumping to block volleyballs instead of just an instructor having you do different moves?

No reason you can't still have a class and instructor, but VR doesn't limit you to just an exercise room.

From my understanding, many people quickly get serious motion sickness from VR that simulates moving when confined to a small area.

used car prices are way up because of a shortage of new cars due to short supplies in computer chips which has hobbled manufacturing

some highlights of the article re a used car auction:

"As a new car, the Civic would have had a sticker price of around $21,000. But within seconds at the wholesale auction, the two-year-old model, with 4,000 miles, sold for $27,200.

Soon after, a Nissan Rogue fetched what it would have cost new in 2018. A three-year old Toyota Camry with large dents and scratches on its hood sold for $14,200, nearly twice what it would have brought just a few years ago. And a 2015 Kia Sorento sold for $12,600, a staggering amount for a six-year-old car with 83,000 miles."

This post is from a year ago and in April 2021 I bought a 2004 Sienna van with 155000 miles on it for $5,000. Right now in my area that van is selling for around $8,000 so a used van a year-and-a-half later has gone up in price substantially. When I was shopping for my van a year-and-a-half ago every dealer I talked to said better hurry up and buy now because everything is going to go through the roof and they were right.

I wouldn't wait two years for a Lambo, let alone a Toyota.

It's a ####ing car, people... you're in it, what, like 30-60 minutes a day, tops, for a work commute, if even that long?? Get a life, people.... LOL

That is not true at all. Dealers like selling ordered cars because they are not charged anything for floor planning and get to keep the usual 60 day floor planning allowance.

Some people like to display their wealth and/or mechanical talents by owning expensive, high maintenance vehicles to bring to gatherings ("Cars & Coffee") to let similarly minded people express joy and adulation. (Some cars are less expensive and more practical than some watches. I get that.)

I, apparently like you, just want to get to the next place with a reasonably low chance of mechanical difficulty, and it would be nice if the air conditioner didn't kick out.

I also used to commute 5 hours a day (but not every day) to and from work, then typically had another 6+ hours of driving around some nights for... let's call it socializing. Some people definitely use a car more than 60 minutes a day.

I had three cats die this year and I already replaced them with kittens. One of them is pretty cool he has a raccoon tail which is pretty unusual on a cat. When you have 12 cats everyday is like a cat video. The morons are always up to something.

Trip report:

Spent a couple hours at Chinook Winds casino yesterday.

Had two sessions of high limit slots.

The first I bought in for four hundred and quickly lost it all plus my twenty dollar mad money.

Oops.

Took a break, went shopping, got gas, then back to the casino.

Not feeling optimistic I only brought in two hundred bucks; that got whittled down to less than fifty, but then voila', within five or ten minutes I went on a decent run , then fled that vice den.

I won back what I'd lost earlier and walked out up one hundred sixty-two dollars.

Ka-ching.

This is the (get ready for this) EIGHTH consecutive winning outing: unheard of, unprecedented, pinch me I must be dreaming.

Up over seven grand profit since the streak began.

Luck happens.

I play three machines: Double 3x 4x 5x Pay; Double Diamond, and Double Diamond Deluxe.

My bets vary from one to fifty dollars per spin.

I always start low and if I win I increase the bet; even if I am not winning I make an occasional big bet because I like to take a shot.

My recent success was based on hitting some of my bigger bets, either ten, twenty, twenty-five or fifty dollars.

No skill, just luck.

I have 12 cats and they never go outside. The life expectancy of an outdoor cat is half that of an indoor cat because of disease and predators. I never have fleas because my cash don't go outside. If they never go outside they don't want to go outside it just confuses them. Indoor cats have much better temperaments then ones that go indoors and outdoors.

Rotating three reel slots, a bit "old school."

Multi-denomination.

Only one winning line.

All three allow no more than a two credit bet.

Credits usually are one, five, ten, twenty or twenty-five, depending on the machine.

I used to play a ten dollar Double Diamond at Spirit Mtn. but it's gone due to unavailability of parts (so I was told).

Damn, I hope Chinook Winds keeps these old girls in the game as I don't play the newer style games.

I have played hundreds of hours on various Double Diamond slot progressives, and I seriously dislike it, so you couldn't pay me to play a Double Diamond slot machine.

Actually, you or the casino can... if the earn is right.

I dislike winter like most people dislike winter. I do not like it getting dark out so early because I am a late-night person who seldom goes to bed before 4 a.m. And I usually get up about 10:30 a.m.. I get most of my work done in the afternoon and evening indoor and outdoor and the sun goes down here on December 21st at 5:10 p.m. So it's dark by 5:30. What I have been doing is last few years not recognizing the correct time to turn my clocks around for daylight savings time. In the first week of November this year I will leave my clock one hour ahead and then sometime in February I will turn it back 1 hour. For the darkest months of December and January and February this gives me an extra hour of daylight.

But I had a brainstorm today, why stop there. When everybody's turning their clocks back one hour in November I'm going to turn my clock ahead another hour so I will be two hours ahead of everybody else. On December 21st it will still be light here at 7 p.m.. it will be absolutely wonderful. I'm actually excited about this. I have no time constraints in my life whatsoever I don't even have cable TV anymore. I only watch the subscription services like HBO and Netflix and Prime and Paramount. The only days when it would make a difference is when I make a doctor's appointment and I'll just adjust that for time. I can't express how much better I feel about the coming winter now. I also feel a certain amount of power because I'm taking control of something that really bothers me.

I love the winter. I wish it was dark 24/7 5 days a week.

I might be going to bed at 4 am, and a few days later I may be waking up at 4 am.

Was super cool. Just to clarify your post, the satellite was destroyed, not the asteroid.

Hmm... The video I saw showed multiple asteroids being destroyed by the satellite... and an alien spacecraft!

Are those machines the "bar, bar, bar" type reel slots or are they some type of "video" slot?
How many "winning" lines? If playing one dollar per line, what would be the max bet on one spin?

Rotating three reel slots, a bit "old school."

Multi-denomination.

Only one winning line.

All three allow no more than a two credit bet.

Credits usually are one, five, ten, twenty or twenty-five, depending on the machine.

I used to play a ten dollar Double Diamond at Spirit Mtn. but it's gone due to unavailability of parts (so I was told).

Damn, I hope Chinook Winds keeps these old girls in the game as I don't play the newer style games.

I mean... you could just not look at the clock at all... why even constrain yourself to a timeline at all when you admit you don't need to and you operate by daylight anyway?

Because I need to know when it's time to eat dinner or time to feed the cats or time to do whatever. I don't have a clock in my head.

One does not need a clock for "dinner" as hunger is a chemical reaction as is thirst. People without stomachs get hungry. As far as cats go, not sure about that, but if one were to use sunrise and sunset to feed the cats, they would be fully satisfied.

You try living without knowing what time it is for 24 hours and see how much you like it. My stomach and my cats and the time to take my meds all need to know the correct time. Maybe you're brilliant and have a clock in your head. Good luck with that.

Okay, but what do you "gain" out of manipulating the clock? Why does it matter in your personal daily activities if the sun goes down at 5pm or 7pm?

I am retired, so I do not need a clock especially when I am hungry or need to feed my chihuahua. Besides, with TV a clock is unnecessary as programming provides the necessary time functions. Anyway, you all carry on and on and .........
