Do you drive with your blinker on? Are you getting mailers for funeral and cemetery plot arrangements?

Although I have no useful answers for these questions, I wish to extend the usual congratulations on another successful orbit of the nearest star.

Soopoo, you are retired and spend half of your time in Florida. You are definitely old. Sadly, my only child is older than your youngest.
The court ruled 5-4 that Texas doesn’t have a say over games offered on reservations if it allows those same games elsewhere — even if they are highly regulated. Texas permits some bingo facilities to operate, but the proceeds have to go to charity and must be approved through local elections.
“Texas contends that Congress expressly ordained that all of its gaming laws should be treated as surrogate federal law,” Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in the majority opinion. “In the end, however, we find no evidence Congress endowed state law with anything like the power Texas claims.”
The law is...that after they get their bell rung in the cage, these kids have to put on a helmet to ride their bikes back home.

Played golf yesterday in 90+ humid conditions. Really tried to overdrink to stay hydrated. After the round my forearms essentially stopped working…. I needed help opening a car door!!! (Luckily I carpooled). Only lasted a short while to that degree. I got the ‘electrolyte’ lecture from wifey. Next time will buy at least one Gatorade to supplement my diet Iced Tea supply.

the bet was that Joey Chestnut on the over to eat more than 74.5 hot dogs at Nathan's hot dog eating contest
but a protester (no doubt a very intelligent guy) rushed the stage and scuffled with Joey Chestnut
that led FanDuel and DraftKings and other sportsbooks to issue refunds on the over bet
he finished with 63 - I guess they honored the under - article doesn't say

I was desperate to bet the under on both men’s and women’s contests. Hot weather lowers the winning number, and it was hot in NY yesterday. The woman ‘just’ ate 40, her high was 49. Chestnut said the guy may have cost him 3 dogs…. He would still have been WAY under the 74.5.

Indeed. Not the first, and I fear not the last.
yes, things are tough all over - for sure
for many years most of the stores claiming to be Dollar Stores became actually Dollar Plus - almost everything was more than a dollar - as much as $5.00
but there were a very few - one near me - that kept everything at just $1.00
until about 3 months ago - now everything is $1.25
well kudos to them - they kept everything at just $1.00 for about 40 years_______
of course, they used tricks to do this - mainly making the product and the package less or smaller
sometimes even the product would be less - but the package would remain the same size____________________(~:/

What is the point in gas stations selling gas with the price always in a fraction, e.g. "$5.66.9 per gallon?"
Really, a ".9?"
Try insisting on paying exact change for exactly one gallon of gas: cannot do it.

Andy Rooney on "60 Minutes" went to a gas station and tried to get change for his .1 cent — seems like a Tik Tok moment now. He was ahead of his time!

MrV,
I agree.
Way, way back when gas was around 30¢ per gallon, the "extra" 0.9¢ was an appreciable amount for the station: on a 10 gallon fill-up, the total was $3.09 rather than $3.00.
However, nowadays with gas running $4, $5, or more per gallon, the "extra" 0.9¢ is pointless: just charge $4.54/gallon rather than $4.53.9/gallon, so a 10-gallon fill-up is $45.40 rather than $45.39. I doubt the customers would balk at the extra penny per 10 gallons.

In the greatest sporting example of “fake it till you make it,” a group of farm hands and unemployed youth in a small town in Gujarat, India faked weeks of Indian Premier League cricket for an audience of Russian gamblers.
The “season” made it all the way to the quarterfinals, before police learned of the fake league and busted up the fraud. Still, for a few magical weeks, gamblers gave their money to the league, watched live streams of matches, and had no idea they were watching a bunch of random dudes playing fixed cricket, and not one of the most lucrative sports in the world.

For me, there are two ways to beat "scam" calls: (1) Do NOT answer the call, i.e., do not pick-up just let it ring until it stops. and (2) If one must pick up, then do NOT speak at all. Robo calls automatically hang up if there is "no one" there or live callers will usually say who they are or who they represent, then just hang up.

I'm in the "must pick up" category. I can't use a spam number blocker.
Saying "This is Dieter" instead of "Hello" seems to increase the probability of a robohangup.
(Yes, I often answer the phone as Dieter, instead of one of my other names.)

I was born and raised in DC and have lived in the city or its burbs most of my life
in the late 70s I had to walk thru Lafayette Park - downtown - to get to work
there were a few homeless men in the park - I would see and recognize the same ones every day - only about 7 or 8 of them
there wasn't even the usage of the word "homeless" back then - we called them bums
I would bet there weren't more than 100 of them in the entire city
now, of course, there are thousands of them like most big cities
