I don't know if I have ever seen a movie with Raquel Welch.

When I was dating her we never went to the movies, so that makes two of us…

I think of ‘Planet of the Apes’. None others come to mind.

I would have said I haven’t seen Mrs. Welch in a movie either. Then I remembered a really bad comedy I saw as a kid called “Mother, Jugs and Speed”.
Trivia question: Was Raquel’s character Mother, Jugs or Speed?

Raquel Welch played “Lust” (one of the 7 Deadly Sins) in the 1967 film “Bedazzled” starring Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.

I saw Raquel in a tight leather suit in Fantastic Voyage, a film where she is in a submarine that shrinks and goes into a man's body. That's some bass-ackward wish fulfillment symbolism. She was also in One Million Years B.C. The poster for that movie was on the wall of my dorm room during my freshman year in college. That poster (with Raquel in a fur bikini) also played a key role in The Shawshank Redemption.

Also saw Kansas City Bomber, in which Raquel was in a starring role.

Raquel Welch was not in any of the Planet of the Apes films. You are probably confusing her with Linda Harrison who plays and looks similar to Raquel from one million years BC.

I always thought he had a severe anti-Yankee bias, and it bothered me when they hired him. He only lasted three seasons but later compared Yankee management to Hitler and Stalin. Games he announced that didn't involve the Yankees, he was great.

Yes the iconic bikini shot of Raquel is from one million years BC.

There is also an earlier film called One Million BC (the word years isn't in the title). That's an earlier b&w version of the same film using Lizards as dinosaurs compared to the stop motion animation of the remake

I suppose we could all work on upping our ridiculous claims. It hardly seems fair that one or two people dominate that category. Now that I have an extra two hours a day, I promise to use some of free time to up my game.

I actually came up with the original idea of "The Truman Show", only the fake world was actually part of a giant themed casino. It starred me, and a bunch of NFL cheerleaders. Unfortunately, the backers went bust on some crypto stock --the early crypto stock invented by Thomas Edison. Most haven't heard of it. I sold the rights, and it got a minor rewrite.

Actress Stella Stevens passed away today, at the age of 84.

https://www.vintag.es/2018/05/stella-stevens-from-the-1960s.html

As it just so happens, I finished re-reading The Poseidon Adventure yesterday. As in the movie, her character also dies in the novel.

Looks like her end of life wish was to eat whatever she wanted and stop watching her figure.

I don’t hear anyone say “watching their figure” anymore, but it used to be a common expression.

I'm more hit by the loss of musicians than by the actors (e.g. Neil Peart, Eddie Van Halen, Irene Cara, David Crosby).

I see that no one posted about Alan White's passing last May. (Drummer for Yes, played on John Lennon's "Imagine".) I got lucky to be able to play with him, the Wizard actually saw that show at Mandalay Bay's House of Blues in 2007 as part of Rock Camp. Here's an obit which ridiculously includes a picture from that night, as I was the least important person Alan White ever played with.

Both Stevens and Welch were certainly considered 1960s Hollywood bombshells.

According to Wikipedia, Stevens was included in Playboy's 100 Sexiest Stars of the 20th Century, appearing at number 27. During the 1960s, she was one of the most photographed women in the world.

I have no doubt that's true and it also wouldn't surprise me if Welch was also in that group of "most photographed women."

But yea, as gorgeous as Stevens was, I think Welch was even more beautiful.

Raquel Welch, IMO. But in that picture of Raquel, probably in her 80s, look at her hands. They look demonic. I wonder what she did with her hands to cause them to look like that.

I attended a wedding where he and his band performed. He must have had ten musicians and a half dozen singers. He gave a short introduction to each song, and I was very impressed with how many songs he had written. He made a point of saying everything they played was an original, except for This Magic Moment, which had been the bride's parent's wedding theme. He joked that he doesn't usually do covers, but the price was right. They flew in from LA the morning of the show and most of them headed back right after.

Yes, I saw that in the news. My late childhood was during his presidency and I started to develop an interest in politics and presidents at the time.

I better start working on my Carter trivia challenge for when he passes. When my father went into hospice care he was gone about two months later.

I know the Wizard has a hobby of trying to see presidents. We went to the John Kerry rally in 2004, probably in case Kerry became president, so we could say we'd seen that president, even if he wasn't president at the time. The rally was pretty lame. And I quizzed his staffers and found they were unfamiliar with Kerry's actual votes and policy positions.

A few years ago I took my then high-school-age daughter to see Carter speak here in Austin, with the idea possibly occurring to me because of the Wizard's interest in seeing presidents.

I can’t understand why people seem so shocked that as time passes hot celebrities look older, almost like they are human. Steve Martin and Martin Short are touring a stage act. It is titled “You Won’t Believe What They Look Like Today “. Perfect

Richard Belzer who played the constantly wisecracking Detective Munch on the tv show Law and Order SVU has just passed - I love the show and his character -

one time on the show somebody accused him of being a dirty, old man. He responded________ "Who are you calling old."

he had a very rough life at at times, the NYT story of his life at the link is quite interesting - to me, anyway

r.i.p. dude
