Quote: AZDuffmanBut now they are hitting mid-season stride. For the Superbowl they are still a dark horse but many weeks left.
Dark horse? I'd make them the favorite. Which team do you believe has a better chance of winning it all?

Sports are so much more relaxing when you care about the point spread and nothing else.

Baltimore currently third in the betting market, Patriots and Saints are currently first and second. Other than just playoff experience I think injury probability plays into those odds. That’s the biggest concern with Baltimore imo, missing an above average amount of games with injury within a 3-4 year period seems inevitable with an average to slim build QB taking 150 carries a year. He missed time last year. He probably has the perfect backup to help mentor him to protect himself from injury (I.e. don’t be an idiot about it look what happened to me)RG-III was incredible as a rookie.

I’d like to see what Belichick has for them in a rematch, played in foxborough, if that game happens in January.
Quote: GWAEThey do look good. Being from Pittsburgh I am supposed to hate the ravens and normally I would but with flacko, Lewis, and Suggs all gone it's tough to hate them. I have seen some stories that Jackson is a really good person.
Probably posted before, but whatever.
Played a few hours of poker with this guy. We wound up chatting a bit. Very nice. Funny. If I had to guess, I would have thought he was an insurance salesman or something like that.
Next day, we sat on the same table and chatted some more. Near the end of the session, someone asks if he is Mark Ingram. He says yes. I already liked Ingram, mainly because he was Alabama's first Heisman winner. Also, I remembered the touching scene when he was drafted. So it was pretty cool that I had kind of been hanging out with this guy.
Shortly after this, I flopped a set and he found a fold with his overpair which was rather frustrating. Rich people aren't supposed to fold overpairs.
Then he bought a couple pizzas for the table. At CP, where a pizza costs like $45.
So I always root for him now.
Even apart from that, I've long ago converted to rooting more for players I know to be good guys. Living and dying with a team and idolizing players is fine if you are a kid. At some point, you should grow up and realize that these are just people and the teams are entertainment corporations.

I do. Literally the minute I learned the Steelers signed Vick I swore them off. Before that I really stopped caring about any other sports.
not a sure winner but it looks like an easy call - these 2 teams are capable of scoring much more than that
looks like they based the total on the last time these 2 teams played each other which was low scoring
that is not all that significant IMHO
Toronto scores 113, gives up 106 against them.
Could be a matter of which team dictates the tempo.
orlando and its opponents have gone over this total in 5 of its last 6 games - a couple of times way over
toronto and its opponents have gone over this total in 5 of its last 6 games - 4 times way over
Quote: michael99000Akron football tonight attempting to not only start this season 0-11, but also 0-11 ATS. Extremely rare to be this bad, as the point spread is supposed to be the great equalizer.
The last I saw the Zips were a 31 point underdog.
I actually took Akron today on the theory that the line would be inflated by this very fact. And due to MOH being so run heavy that the scoring could slow down greatly in the second half. Will see if that plays out. I’m in at +31.Quote: michael99000Akron football tonight attempting to not only start this season 0-11, but also 0-11 ATS. Akron hanging in there, only down 14 at the half.
Coach must’ve gave a motivational pre-game speech urging the team not to lose by more than 31

Lose by less than 31 for the Gipper! :-)

am taking, picking them -4.5 over the 9ers Sunday

Only 4.5????? Is that real???? I put Ravens as that much better than 49ers. And that does not include home field. Should be 7 point faves.
The Ravens are just a different offense. The 49ers are a great team, but to me, the Ravens are special. Ravens 31. 49ers. 20.

just snapped this screenshot one minute ago
william hill and westgate have already moved the line to 5.5 and 6.5
c.g. tech shows the line at 4 if accurate

"Essentially, Malzahn and his staff lined their punter up as a wide receiver, and the Crimson Tide were caught flat-footed when trying to get the right personnel on the field. The crux of Saban’s argument seems to be that he didn’t get a fair shot to make his own substitutions."
Alabama has no shot at getting into the BCS now
my opinion: cry baby cry

Two pick sixes by Auburn, one for 100 yards
Two very long touchdowns by Bama wide receiver Jordan Waddle.
The officials' review at the end of the 1st half with 1 second left which gave Auburn, who had no time outs, the time to bring their field goal team onto the field and subsequently score 3 points.
Amazing defensive stand by Auburn in the 2nd half.
Alabama's doink - field goal attempt that hit an upright - with 2:00 minutes left that would have tied the game.
With 1:20 remaining and Auburn facing fourth and 4, Alabama was poised to receive Auburn's punt and try to move down the field and kick another field goal to tie. Auburn brings in their punter -Alabama sees this and inserts their punt return team. But Auburn has left the rest of their offense on the field and now lines up the punter as a wide receiver -they were probably going to pass (to a real wide receiver) because Bama had no pass coverage guys on the field. Saban, who has no time outs left, tries to bring his main defense on the field and gets caught with 12 men on the field for a five yard penalty. Auburn gets 5 yards and a first down and Auburn takes two knees, runs the clock down and wins. Brilliant creative trick by Auburn at the perfect time (ahead by 3 points, need <5 yards for a first down and opponent has no time outs) at a crucial moment in college football history. Stunning.
LSU will go to the BCS for sure if they win..............Georgia, if they win, I'm not sure
LSU is favored by 7 points - I don't have a betting opinion

If Georgia beats LSU they are at worst the number 3 seed. More likely they jump an undefeated Clemson to be number two. If OSU is upset Georgia would be seed one or two. If LSU wins then it’s LSU OSU Clemson and........Oklahoma? Utah? Baylor?
What about the Devils firing their coach yesterday?
Last years college basketball national championship winner Virginia was blown out by an unranked Purdue team today. Is this going to be the strongest year for Big Ten teams?
What about Riley Herbst being named the Xfinnity #18 driver next year?

I am not sure if it is true or not, but before the season began an article said that he might b the third or fourth best player on his team.
Quote: mcallister3200Not so much like father like son in that Lebron physically looked like a grown man at 15, his 15 year old son looks maybe 16.
That's what I was thinking. Is that lebron at 15? He looks like a beast if so.

I don’t think Eli is a sure thing HoF. He may eventually get in but I doubt it will be first ballot.
Eli's toughness was incredible. He's never missed a start due to injury and he started well over 200 games in a row until his coach decided to start a rookie a few years back.
He's the best Giant QB I've seen and I go back to the Yankee Stadium days.
I call it the “Jeter effect.” Dude is a deserved hall of famer I wouldn’t argue that. Great average, below average defensive shortstop, average power for his position, above average but not great base runner. Only special or separating skill is batting average, and team accomplishments. That’s one of the greatest of all time? Why? Because he was always on a stacked team that won and wouldn’t have been possible in a salary cap league (any other major sport)? Get out of here with that bs. Dude is remembered as something he never was at any point.
Pats saying it was all on the up and up. Will be interesting to see how the story develops.
All Time leader in a number of Yankee offensive categories.
Thankfully, he has those team accomplishments to fall back on.
Quote: mcallister3200Eli will, undeservedly in my opinion, get into the hall. At no point in his career was he a top 5 qb. .500 record. Such is the nature of judging individuals based on team accomplishments in team sports. Was a good QB but realistically no better or worse than guys like Rivers, Romo, Bledsoe, Matt Ryan. Roethlisberger will have the same more favorable than deserved rep when he goes as well. To some extent it can be fair because some individuals are asked to do less than they are capable of on great teams, that’s probably more prevalent in basketball. But it’s ridiculous for the most part
The talking heads seem to believe that Rivers will get in and the only thing that could maybe keep him out is the lack of a Super Bowl ring.
That said, I agree with your overall point, but players get in due to the team accomplishments all the time and always have. Terry Bradshaw is a good example. Played on great teams, but only saw three Pro Bowls and was only once first team All-Pro. TD:INT ratio of essentially 1:1, garbage career QB Rating. 148th all-time? Gross. Even for the era, his QB Rating wasn't particularly good.
They have him from 1970-1983, so I am going to look at any quarterback above him to end his career in 1985 or earlier...(I got counted over 20 before even getting into the Top 100 and stopped).
Have you heard of Craig Morton? I hadn't until today. Same thing, a virtually 1:1 TD:INT ratio, but he was more accurate than Bradshaw (based on the stats) and averaged more yards per attempt. Bradshaw, in his defense, had more yards per completion by virtue of the fact that he just slung the damn thing all over the field and hoped for the best. Morton had more completions on fewer attempts. Morton had a lower percentage of TD's, but he also had a lower percentage of INT's as a result. '
Morton was on a Super Bowl winning Cowboys team, but was presumably Staubach's backup because that is who started that game.
Anyway, I agree with your point, just saying that's the way it's always been. And also that Terry Bradshaw sucks.
I really only remember him playing with Denver at the end of his career. He was decent then but not spectacular.
the local restaurant has a sandwich named after him - from what I've seen which is admittedly not that much - but, yes, he is a great one

I was in LA when he was the interim coach at SC. Everyone in the media seemed to think he was a good guy and the players absolutely loved him. However, in their infinite wisdom, the higher ups decided he wasn't a big time coach and went with Layne Kiffen. Woops.
