2017 WoV Picks Game (Discussion Thread)

My ruling on the first issue was made because:
1.) The mistake was very clear.
2.) I don't think anyone would make seven Picks.
3.) Even if all seven Picks COULD count, I don't think there is any reason one would make opposing Picks.
As far as Romes goes, I'll leave that up to a vote. I generally accept Picks as long as Picks have not yet been posted, but they CAN be posted as early as 10:00a.m. EST, and that is when they are due. With respect to Romes' Picks that one week I did NOT allow them because:
1.) Picks had been posted.
AND
2.) The games had already started, just not the games that he selected.
I understand that he was busy, but my issue is that we're not even talking about the 10:00a.m. EST time that they are due, or that everyone's Picks had been posted, but also that actual football games had started. I had posted the Picks at 12:35p.m., so anytime that time or prior (and before the start of any games) and I would have accepted them.
On the other hand, perhaps it could be considered a disadvantage to him that he could not pick any of the 1:00p.m. games.
Here is my proposed solution, because I want to be fair to everyone:
1.) We accept Romes' Picks for Week 4 and the 4-2 record that goes with them as well as restore Romes' bye week, but:
A.) Romes will have to win outright or take a consolation prize outright to win it. The tiebreaker rule shall not apply. The reason that I make this suggestion is because giving Romes the week makes no practical difference unless he actually wins some sort of prize. In the event Romes does not win any of the prizes, then what does it matter?
B.) Picks are due at 10:00a.m. EST and from now on no Picks submitted after 10:00a.m. will be considered regardless of whether or not I have posted the Picks yet.
C.) Everyone shall be responsible for making sure their Picks reflect what they want according to the formatting Rules. Any further mistakes will result in the use of the BYE WEEK or an 0-5 record if said Bye Week has already been used.

Mission, I appreciate the consideration, it I’ll just bow out of the conflict now. I’m not going to win and just playing for the giggles and to try to help everyone get to X amount of people for the bonuses. The last 3 weeks I’ve elected to just allow my “default” plan :p. Still waiting for that one to pay off! So again I appreciate it, but I’ll just stick with my bye week burned and defaulting my picks.

I agree with the decision regarding JohnnyQ. Regarding Romes picks, I think they should still be considered a bye week, as the ruling was made independent of the outcome of his selections.

I slept thru the 10 am deadline, but could have made picks before they were posted. Already thought it was a hard deadline. It's my bye week. Hope everyone goes unbeaten!

I have no problem with any of this. This is just for fun right? If I am hard up enough to cheat for this pool I have problems, I am not saying Romes was trying to cheat. I'm cool with whatever, I just enjoy the game and would hate to see someone dropped when yes it was against the rules, but not malicious at all.

I'm so close to giving up on making confidence picks. Another wash. Sigh. Better than a loss, I guess, but it's like I hex them.
Otoh, skol, Vikings! I lost faith with all the starters out, and they go and win again without them. Yeesh. Good thing nobody's betting my picks. Lol..

Those 5 most popular picks: the Bengals, Ravens, Panthers and 49-ers all lost ATS, and the Broncos are down 14-0 as I write this. It looks like 0-5.
But, I am a member of the WOV Sucking Majority. I also had the Bengals, Ravens and Broncos. It looks like I will finish either 1-5 or 0-6 -after a 1-5 for last week. Good pickers are known as 'sharps' - I clearly must be one of the 'dulls.'
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

Finally my default strat worked! ...well with 2 pushes... weird, but yay a week that helps.
I really wish I'd made the patriots -3 my confidence too. I didn't look at that until later and was like, yeah that needs to be a bet.

I went 0-6, and in the 5 games that I picked for Week 7, I failed to cover by a total of 51 points. Has anyone done worse then that this year? Ever?

Hey, there's nothing wrong with being average =P. Congrats again on claiming the top spot! 67.65% is impressive. Do you claim to have a deeper understanding of the games/spread/etc? For example: I look at some simple stuff, but I don't really fully know what I'm doing, admittedly. Absolutely not, not at all ! In fact, one of the only real sports bets I have made in Vegas was for Maryland +31 vs Ohio State a couple of weeks ago. That didn't work out so well for me.Quote: RomesDo you claim to have a deeper understanding of the games/spread/etc?

My scoring macro ignores all spreads and over/unders that are entered by the player. Instead, for all games, it looks at the team that is listed and uses the spread I enter. (For this reason, all players could just list the team they want, and not list the spread at all.)

THIS WEEK "and then there were 4"..... ( yes, 60 % is an entirely arbitrary cut-off ). Actually I think there is plenty of time for someone below 60 % to claw their way to 1st place by the end of the season.

Not sure what's going on with the lines.
Mission said at the beginning that he pulls his lines from VegasInsider. So I went there. There are many, many lines listed. Not sure whose he uses.
So, here are screenshot of the Opening lines (first column) from VI. I'm assuming that's as close as we'll get to Thurs lines. I'm not any kind of sub commissioner, so I don't know if these will do, but I think they're at least a good guideline with people trying to get their picks made before they go out of range or something.
Ed says his program only reads the team and the over/under anyway, so I doubt the numbers are that big a deal.

Does Mission use the opening lines? I didn't think he did. I assumed he used the very late, adjusted lines. (Shows you how much I know, if I don't know for sure what lines he uses.)
The only reason I thought he used the late, adjusted lines was because if he did use the opening lines, there would be no reason to wait until late in the week (Friday) to post them. He could post them right away, immediately.

Mission's standard has been (I thought) to post lines on Thursday, and we've missed those, so I figured the Open column was the most consistent. There is a VI consensus, current for whatever time you're looking at them. Perhaps that's what he usually uses.

It looks like this may be MidwestAP's and my best chance to win our 49ers/Browns side bet with you Babs.
The 49ers have a decent shot of winning this weekend. The Browns are off but they must travel to Detroit next weekend, and will likely be underdogs by possibly a touchdown or more in that game.

There are other bets between members on how well people will do. The lines you posted may be acceptable for the base game, but a line before Watson was injured compared to one after he was injured....
