2. The contestants have an aggregate win rate of 54.2%, but if you exclude the 5 forfeit losses, our aggregate win rate is 54.6%. That's almost (but not quite) break-even against the vig.
3. Week 6 looks unusual to me. Most of the really bad teams are facing the very good teams. Five games currently have point spreads in the range of 9 to 13 points, and a 6th game has a 7 point spread. There may be some different issues to think about during the picking process.

The first thing that I want to say is that I am completely embarrassed that I had the wrong end of the Titans/Fins pick, but at least it was somewhat close. I kind of caught the line move based on the Mariota scratch, but honestly, I don't really consider Cassel that much of a downgrade such as to make a difference, and I liked TEN +3 before knowing MM was out. In my view, MM didn't change anything, but we see how well that worked for me.
It wouldn't have been so bad if half of the field didn't have MIA!!!
1.) Yes, congratulations, MidwestAP...but I am coming.
Okay, probably not.
2.) (.546 * 100) - (.454 * 110) = 4.66
4.66 per game picked, so at 361-300 betting $100 per game, the group would be at:
(361 * 100) - (300 * 110) = +$3,100 over 661 picks, so:
66100 (wagered) with a 69200 return is 69200/66100 = 1.04689864 or a 104.689864% ROI. We're crushing the vig!
Unless I am mistaken:
(x * 100) - ((1-x)*110) = 0
X = 0.52380952381
With that, you need to be running at approximately 0.524 or 52.4% winners to overcome the juice.
3.) I love weeks like this, but I reserve the right to change my opinion after we see how the Picks go.

1.) There is no VI consensus on Chargers/Raiders because most books appear not to have that on the board. CG Technology apparently has it at Raiders (-2), so better that line than no line at all.
2.) Nobody has an O/U on Chargers/Raiders, at least not according to VI.
3.) We still don't know if Mariota will play, so no lines of any kind on Monday yet.
4.) I'll check for lines a few times today and tomorrow, if anything pops up I'll edit it in...so if you really want to wait to pick those games, feel free...but don't miss the deadline!!!! MNF may not even come up by then.

I missed 2 weeks after last week and was thinking I would still keep playing for a long shot at the win but I spaced again last night so I am not even going to bother sending any more picks. My strategy of waiting until the last minute to see line moves backfired completely because then I just forget to make my picks :-)

There is money at stake
besides, I like to see which teams getting the most love.
Maybe Ed Collins or BBB taking over if Mission is getting overwhelmed with other things in life.
On the flip side
I hope everything is ok with Mission and maybe this is a one time thing.

1. Mission did not file his picks with me.
2. He is seriously in contention for the win.
3. I've played 4 years. He has never, to my knowledge, missed getting the picks posted.
4. He has not opened our picks, at least not mine.
I'm seriously worried about him. This game means a lot to him, as far as his commissioner job. I think his record of reliability has been such that your default thought is more correctly concern than suggesting he blew it off.

Am I the only one who got crushed this week? Was this week crazier than usual?
- Atlanta, a 2-TD favorite is ahead 17-0 at home against terrible Miami - and loses 20-17?
- Aaron Rodgers breaks his collarbone and GB loses?
- New Orleans scores 3 defensive TDs, amassing 52 points against Detroit?
- Jameis Winston gets hurt early in the 2nd Q and exits the game and TB loses?
- Undefeated KC, with the #1 offense in the NFL, goes into the 4th quarter with only 3 points?
- Raiders and Jags are upset, 49ers and Jets (massive underdogs) both beat the spread and almost overcome huge odds to win?
Negative variance happens, I guess.

I'm going 2-4 this week. It was either going to be blowouts or upsets. Seems to be the latter.
My worst decision was 2nd guessing myself. I had Vikes. They announced late Fri StephAn Diggs would not play. So I revised my roster to take Ravens instead. A minus 2 decision when rodgers went out in the 1st q.

Greetings!
1.) Let me first apologize for missing getting the Picks posted. My son has been vomiting, occasionally violently, for the last few days. The hospital ran a bunch of tests on him on Friday and we are still waiting for those results. They were originally going to admit him, but essentially said he could be released to us (not really anything they could do for him without knowing the specific problem) as long as we understood the need to keep him hydrated at all times. They also stated to come back if the problem became any worse. I don't know why they would say that, still nothing they could do except stand there and look concerned until the tests come back, which should be tomorrow.
2.) I did not want to Skip this week and would have went 4-1, if you guys will believe me, we'll just go ahead and tack that on my record.
Kidding, but I really would have went 4-1, my Picks would have been all dogs, for a change.
3.) I think this is maybe the second time I have failed to get Picks up...I want to say the first was a power outage, so no Internet, but don't really remember.
Either way, if anyone wants to volunteer to be a backup to me, say if I don't have the Picks posted by 1:00p.m, then that person could do them? Everyone would just PM the Picks to both people, but would only technically have to send them to me.
I honestly try to have the Picks up in a timely fashion every time. I did them all from my phone once because my Internet wasn't working, and that may have sucked worse than anything I have ever done in my life.

Was trying a new flailing strategy the last 2 weeks... Funny, through the first half both weeks I was looking strong (like 5/6), and yet both weeks ended in the red. I'm glad I don't do this with real money =(. Congrats to Mike on his very green 6-0 week and claim back on top of the leader board!

That's bizarre, must have just been a mistake and I would assume he meant to delete O/U 46.5 from that.
I checked the PM though, and that's what it says.
I think the intent of Vikings +3 seems pretty clear, but I'm willing to hear other thoughts.

Here are my thoughts.
When I saw that, I read that as just one pick for the pick for the Vikings with the spread.
When Mission posts the lines, recall that he posts them exactly like this:
Packers (-3) @ Vikings (+3) O/U 46.5
I believed johnnyq simply copied and pasted the part of the pick he wanted (Vikings) and accidentally copied over the rest of it too.
Furthermore, johnnyq almost never picks the OVER/UNDER. He did once, in Week 1. When he did, he clearly listed the full word: "UNDER." This further indicated to me he did not intend to bet the Over/Under on this game at all, let alone on the same line, which would of course, give him six picks not five.

I agree with Ed Collins on his interpretation of johnnyq's pick. I personally have no problem with giving johnnyq credit for that one.
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

I'm all for leniency, but then I'd like my 4/6 I went on my "bye" week when I accidentally got my picks to Mission before kickoff of any games but technically after the 10am time frame, which caused me to use my bye week. It's tough, because I really don't care, I just want consistency. If we're gonna be lax, then with good reasons (such that JohnnyQ has) let's be lax. I find myself agreeing with Romes post. I should not have offered an opinion in the first place, because I had not adequately thought through the issue. I'll refrain from further comment and wait on Mission (or whomever) to handle this.
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

I think the intent of Vikings +3 seems pretty clear, but I'm willing to hear other thoughts.

I was not trying to sneak in a "pick 6" or 7. Romes mentioned "good reasons". I don't have a reason. I have an explanation.
ps:
Personally, I wouldn't mind if ROMES got his picks updated either. I assume somewhere in the official rules, which I probably didn't read thoroughly, it says that if a decision has to be made, it is up to the game administrator to make it, and I think we all trust M146 to apply his judgement. So, again, I say whatever is fair.

Any thoughts on who will win a game first, the Browns or the 49ers ? Maybe it just depends on who plays the worst opponent first ? Also, shouldn't Kaepernick be on one of these teams ?

Without looking at their respective schedules, I'd have to venture an educated guess that the 49ers will win before the Browns do. From what I've seen, the 49ers at times have actually been competitive. The Browns simply look horrible.

I would take a small side wager on the Browns winning first, with " first" defined as their respective games in a week, ignoring the bye. $10 or so? If they do it in the same respective week, it's no decision.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

The Browns have a Bye first, in Week 9.
Just to be clear, if the 49ers win that week, then I don't necessarily yet lose. I would only lose if the Browns lost that next week, in Week 10. If the Browns also win, the bet is then over and cancelled with no decision, no matter what the result is for the 49ers game in Week 10. (Each team won during their 9th week. Both had an identical record of 1-8 after nine games and the bet is over.)

I agree exactly with the bye situation as you describe it. You said it better than I did. However, I want to bet that Cleveland will win first ( and I think that's what I said before; perhaps not), and you take the 49ers win first. Do you want that bet?
