The late news confirming that Jacoby Brisset would indeed play for the Colts appears to have had a big impact: all 5 people picking the Colts (including 3 confidence picks) were late submitters, as was a person picking the Colts Over as a confidence pick.
12 people picked the Bills, including 2 confidence picks.
And Romes must be tapping into a different fount of wisdom than the rest of the field:
- He was the only person to pick the Bengals
- He was the only person to pick the Chiefs
- He was one of only two to pick the Falcons
- He was one of only two to pick the Patriots

I think I am still ever so slightly higher than WizoNothing (4-2) for now with this week's picks at 3-2. But it is getting too close for comfort !
MidWestAP was in third and is currently 2-2 so Monday game COULD AT BEST take him to 3-2.

While I won't divulge my CLEARLY AMAZING STRATEGY, I will say it was basically just luck. Gotta start making moves now, though I'm not sure I can even still come close to winning =p. Thanks for the well wishes, but I plan to return to my average 50% ASAP. For the record though, the strategy I'm trying is supposed to be a winning one (so clearly it sucks, but eh, I'm sticking with it to see how it turns out).

Romes, I actually wrote that post about you being a contrarian picker before the games started - so when I said you were poised to make a big move, it wasn't clear whether it would be up or down the leaderboard. I was surprised (and happy) to see you go 5-1.
I agree with you about being different. You can't catch the leaders if most of your picks are the same as their picks. I see some contestants starting to pick a lot of over/unders, and I wonder if that might be the reason.

Aha ! I have figured out ROMES' secret time-tested strategy.
1) Pick 2 teams with bird names, one of which is always a confidence pick.
2) Pick 2 teams near the start of the alphabet, but never the Browns/Clowns.
3) Pick the Patriots.

Its close for all prizes. I am a game under .500, and can be as high as 3rd place after next week, and as low as second to last. Wizard at 38-32 will be very hardpressed to climb above 60%.

I have a question about the rules.
I assume that we are not allowed to pick both sides of the same game or the same over/under bet, correct? Great way to guarantee Mr.Average. Not really sure that the rules address that. . . .

ADDENDUM:
A proper set of Picks shall consist of five unique Picks of which one may optionally be a Confidence Pick. Even if you make a Confidence Pick, you MUST still make five unique and non-offsetting Picks.
In the event an improper Picks is submitted (or improperly formatted ones for Week 3 and beyond) you will automatically use your Skip Week if one is still available to you and your Picks will not count. If no Skip Week is available to you, you shall be scored with a record of 0-5 for that week and will not be eligible for the, 'You Suck,' or, 'Most Average,' consolation prizes.

Greetings!
I just wanted to apologize again for the delay in getting the Lines up. Like I said, I got rear-ended and had to have the police report (even though she was forthcoming with her insurance information) because I was driving a rental car. I was also watching my Mom's adopted son because she's currently admitted into the hospital with some side effects from chemotherapy and he was really shaken up from it all, so it just slipped my mind. At some point shortly after that, I had to go pick my own kids up and...ugh...
My kids are terrific, but my Mom's adopted son might be proof of Lucifer's existence, because Lucifer is the biological father. He's the only kid I've ever seen that can instantly effectuate my daughter's behavior going to crap...my son is old enough to be unaffected by him. Under any other circumstances, there's no way in 300 years I'd ever watch that kid. You can bet your bottom dollar anytime I introduce him to someone I hammer home every syllable of A-DOP-TED BROTH-ER, as in, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!!!
Finally, as far as whatever error on VegasInsider affecting the entire Colts game and Tampa Bay totals, I don't know what that was, but it seems to be resolved now. I checked back probably about two hours after posting the lines and it still hadn't been resolved at that point. I had already said I probably wouldn't add them anyway, so it didn't really matter. It's not like we have Saturday games or Bye Weeks to deal with this week, so still a pretty full card without those selections.

I'm surprised that more contestants didn't pick
1, the Giants for the psychological edge of having Eli back,
2. the Lions, after the late announcement that Stafford would start.
I didn't make those picks either, but I expected they would be more popular choices.
I held my nose this week and bet on the Browns to cover. They're ahead at halftime, now, but . . .

1.) The psychological edge of having Eli didn't seem to do much for them the first ten weeks of the season. I also think it's a big ask, in general, to pick against a team that could still be playing for something. Dallas could still conceivably get a WildCard spot with a win this week and a little other help. They have some built-in help when Atlanta plays Carolina in the final week of the season as one of those two teams will generally lose. Of course, one also has to win and Atlanta would have the tiebreaker over Dallas as they beat them.
Still, you look at the Cowboys schedule and you see a potential path to winning out if they pull off this week. Zeke will be back against the Seahawks and the Eagles, and they have the Raiders next week. We see how they looked with Zeke at the beginning of the year. The Eagles MAY have home field advantage locked up throughout by the last week and would, I assume, sit Wentz.
As far as the Seahawks are concerned, depending on what they do in the meantime, that could perhaps effectively become a play-in game for them. And, again, Zeke will be back. This game undoubtedly means more for the Cowboys than the Giants, but if the Cowboys lose, you basically have to conclude that their season is probably finished.
2.) I don't know how much that would move the line. It seems that between open and time of posting Lines, the Line moved OFF OF the Lions, who were at -1 if you wanted to lay 125 to win 100. Since then, you've got a PK between the two teams. The MGM close appears to be DET (-1) -110 to win 100 whereas it was the exact opposite at Westgate who seemed to close on TB (-1) -110 to win 100.
I Picked GB to cover, who knows? That wasn't a line move bet, I just couldn't figure out why CLE wasn't a bigger dog. Don't tell me Rodgers, that would be an insult to my intelligence, of course I know Rodgers has been out...lol

Can't believe how badly one little 0-6 week dumped me. So hard to make up that ground. 5-1 hardly moved my standing. But then a lot of people had winning weeks this time.
First time I've noticed there's nobody at all on exactly 50%. Gonna be a big fight for mediocrity, not to mention the standings.
Don't think I ever said thanks, Ed, for keeping up with this every week, and doing the spreadsheet. So thanks, Ed!

Ok, it was a note from Mission yesterday, 1 page back, that says WoN's picks still play. Good.
WoN is in 2nd. So I think a determination needs to be made. I think the Wizard, as head admin, and Mission, as Commissioner, need to make the decision, not us, but I think the thoughts of the group should be heard. I will start it.
There is nothing in the rules (most pertinent excerpted above) requiring a person to be a member in good standing. It is implied, I think, but not stated.
WoN is in contention, has paid an entry fee, and donated additional winnings. I think he should be allowed to continue, if he wants to, until the contest is over. He can email his picks to Mission under the same time frame the rest of us have, since the PM tool no longer works for him.
If everybody but me thought he was dropped, or of course he would play, I would disagree with either being obvious. I don't think there's a precedent, and I think the rules language does not preclude either choice, and so either way could be most correct.
I would add that if WoN is not allowed to continue, the fairest thing would be to return all his fees and donation. However, if he is given the option of continuing and chooses not to, he would forfeit that money by walking away.
