I don’t see how it can be allowed, at least until we get a vaccine. Not only non smokers will be at risk but all employees as they walk thru clouds of vape and smoke.
Not to mention the “touching” issues that apply to those constantly bringing their fingers to their mouth and face to puff. Then touching cards, touching chips, money, etc.
I seriously would recommend face masks for all. Then smoking becomes a non issue. You can’t do it.
Did you use your genie wish just to get rid of smoking in the casino and he started a pandemic just to do it? Never trust a genie, never worth it.

There should be some increased risk catching from smokers, but we haven't heard much about smoker's families dying at higher rates. It's almost like it doesn't make much difference. You can watch videos about how people wash their hands really quickly or miss spots, almost seems like it doesn't matter as long as the hand washing is pretty good, doesn't have to be perfect. Instead of smoking being banned, we would be better off banning sinks from being in private, and for people to have to publicly wash their hands after leaving restrooms. I think the societal benefit would be of more benefit than getting rid of smoking in public.
As dirty as we are, smokers or nonsmokers, we make it touching a lot of dirty things, even coming into contact with viruses and bacterias sometimes, they're not the perfect organisms we give them credit for, to wig out is kind of irritating, it was a joke. Maybe the powers that be care, and maybe they know better, that for some reason we're not OJ Simpsons running around. If you're afraid, people not smoking won't make much difference even in public at a casino with still a lot of people. I'd have to guess the bathrooms will be danger spots, ironically. People this afraid should just stay home, because it might not be so safe out there, no matter what people do. To be seen.

The issue is not necessarily greater risk of catching it although I would assume walking past/thru a vape or smoke fog is not a good idea. The issue is and has been that the reports indicate smokers are 14x more likely to suffer severe symptoms (ie, hospitalization, ventilators) from corona if they catch it. You do understand this is a respiratory virus/disease?
https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20200325/covid-19-likely-worse-for-vapers-smokers#1
As far as Vegas goes, we are having hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world and many do like to smoke and gamble.
You can’t risk them HERE flooding the hospital system and overwhelming it.
The anecdotal evidence is fairly clear. Smokers are suffering from the more severe symptoms requiring hospitalization.
My guess is no way it’s allowed. Sisolak will come off as a complete hypocrite.

I just feel the smokers put themselves at risk, and they know it now. It wouldn't help them not smoking for a time while in the casino, their hearts and lungs are already damaged. The smoke in the air, I don't think is a difference with regards to transmission. If it is, then the health department will rule, as is their job. If implementation of another rule is impeded by smoking, they will have to say no. If they don't and another gambling destination rules it is, then people should go there knowing it will be safer. I hope the hospital system in Vegas is not over burdened, and we will not have another outbreak. If it is, then we screwed up. I think we already have done that, feels like this should be gone by now. If it becomes overwhelmed, people will stop coming to Vegas before it is, it will be state residents there. We are powerless, speaking out isn't doing anything in this case. I think it's one of the first things the powers that be think of, when thinking about how to operate casinos. It's pointless to waste the keyboard here, I guess I'm guilty for even responding. Don't worry about it for real.
If it's true, however, I think only smokers should be allowed in casinos for the first week or two after they reopen. Then once the smokers have made the gaming area's atmosphere sufficiently toxic with second hand smoke should the nonsmokers be allowed in to breath safe air.

Temperature checks upon entry
Masks for all
No eating or drinking at tables
Social distance guidelines
Even the so called experts/insiders are at a loss to predict.
The places are probably going to pretty dead regardless. No sports means the sports books are also dead.

I feel it's unwise to turn someone away with an abnormal temperature, there should be testing right there, and not just telling someone to sit at home for 14 days because they have an abnormal temperature. They'll just go somewhere where there isn't a check, or will take Tylenol if they convince themselves it's something else for sure. There also have to be masks available somewhere. Social distancing sucks if you have to wear a mask, overkill. It's cheaper than testing, and social distancing is more expensive than not testing.

It's going to be a clusterflunk. Someone who flys in for a 3 day excursion....and his temp is reading above normal? Denied! I can see people going nuts.
I saw an old lady going ballistic at Albertsons because she couldn't enter the front door. I can just imagine the problems with enforcing guidelines.
What a mess.
Masks will prevent games like craps from operating....as both player and dealers rely on hearing each other for wagers and confirmation. Ever try speaking thru a mask?
"Mummph me sfriven rine"
Blackjack would be ok...hand gestures work. Roulette would be ok. Slots wound be ok.
You would need guards at every door, every entry, enforcing rules.

All these people can't even get unemployment, that's a mess, they're supposed to be paying bills aren't they.

Quote: onenickelmiraclePart of my problem understanding all this is I thought it was getting better. I don't think it is. I was kind of under the impression new cases or deaths were down close to zero or something, but it's not that way. I've been sitting in the house thinking this must not be that bad, maybe there isn't much around here, but there is some. It's been over a month of captivity for me, I thought if people were staying in, we would make the thing extinct by now. Doesn't seem like that's happened.

Pandemic
34,000 dead in US in one month. More still dying
May climb much higher if no social distancing
Healthy people want to go back to work... Until suddenly they aren't healthy anymore... Then suddenly they see it's serious.
Currently no cure. No treatment.
The scientists are working on it. Their fast is slow to the rest of the world.
I find peace of mind by imagining what we would be saying if this was some type of Nazi invasion. I mean the Europeans didn't whine about when they could get back to work and how six weeks was a nightmare. Instead they ran for their lives and watched their community burn
Returned six years later to devastation and ruined economy
If they survived and rebuilt so will we
She doesn't think it's fair....and I tend to agree with her.
She's says she's opening May 1 regardless.

Lot of them did not survive. Oh, their kids returned and rebuilt...but the patriarchs and matriarchs didn't make it back. The European dead was massive....15 to 20 million. What is our external cost number?
There is a human toll here that goes well beyond the virus. We cannot cavalierly say "return when things get better" Many will already be dead or be in such a perilous situation...they are already close to dead. Heart attacks. Hypertension. Depression to suicide. Not everyone is a rock who can weather this. There will be more permanent losses as each day goes by...and I don't mean virus losses.
There is no easy solution here other than risk will be taken to open.
Some businesses will re-open but which will people attend?
I think people will practice crowdshunning. Through the rest of 2020, there will be no mass crowds at sports events, shows, festivals etc. Its just too risky.
It will be a disaster for college sports, the NFL, MLB, musicians that make their living by touring, theatrical shows. No conferences or conventions. People will travel alone, in pairs or very small groups.
The NYC Subway? The Metro in DC? Not for several months, not until there is a vaccine.
And when 2021 begins. No crowd in Times Square.
Vegas? It will recover to a small extent, but they must find a way to operate without massive crowds.

At some point people will have to make their own decision as to what they think is safe. Business will open and each individual is going to rely on his own personal risk factor....not some politician or doctor telling them what to do or how to feel. There is no cure. The contagion is still going to be there. For those in fear....stay in lockdown until a vaccine is developed. You have no other choice when business re - opens. See you maybe June 2021.
I have no fear being outside around people. I'm not going to be playing flag football....but I cannot stay a hermit. I'm taking a small risk. I wear a mask when I go food shopping. Gotta live. Day 33.

I thought it would be like trapping flies in a jar with no oxygen and they're all dead. Guess it would have been but we never did a 100% lock down. They shouldn't be letting people leave states still bad. Hopefully Spring and Summer heat locks this down like people are hoping. Since it's world wide, Southern hemisphere isn't being helped, guess I'm holding onto Pharma. Seems like it's decent in equatorial countries. The sun theory pushes it into becoming a way of life but we might have drugs and vaccines, if we can produce enough of the various remedies. This is what I never liked about saying "we'll get through this" because so many won't.

Scottsdale and Phoenix are part of the same metromess. You cannot tell when you cross from one to another now. As late as the 70s Scottsdale was a cow town, too poor to properly investigate the murder of Bob Crane. Now it is a rich area. Some nightlife as parts are really commercialized.
Mostly it is where Steve and Karen live in their HOA neighborhood with their 1.7 kids.

Uh, there are people who live here, work here and have lives here like any other city.
Suggesting anything where the hospital and medical infrastructure would get overwhelmed to the point where every bed and doctor is occupied by a visitor (ie, covid patient) with 5,000 more clawing to get inside isn’t going to fly for the 2 million who live here.

Well, to be fair, “this time” for Vegas is nothing compared to any other event in its history...be it 9/11 or the 2008 crisis. Not even close.
Our way of life has changed, possibly forever but most definitely for the next 12-18 months. A vaccine will do a lot to create physical as well as psychological safety and normalcy.
Nice thought...keep Vegas the way it was. Not happening. No place on Earth will be the way it was for at least a while.
I hope at some point we can go back to our normal way of life....but for now that’s not reality.

How will people (especially kids) lower their masks to take a bite and then place them back on their mouths without making a mess? And if you enact a "no masks while eating" policy, how many empty tables should you leave between unmasked parties?
What about food courts? If you think about it they're like semi-buffets. How about large families that want to eat together? Is that permissible? And what if one the kids has a cough?
Quote: onenickelmiracleI personally feel 6 feet of social distancing is too much if people are wearing masks and is impractical and impossible. It's not even going to be feasible to have lines 1/2 mile long to use the restroom, you're going to bump into other lines for other places. Hopefully we'll just wake up and the nightmare is over.
I have used Vegas restrooms hundreds of times and, maybe it's just a miracle, but I have never waited in a line. So set the social distancing in restroom waiting lines at 5280 feet for all I care.

I don't know how any of this is going to be workable. Wynn had wording on masks that I took to be ambiguous. While the word "required" was applied to employees...."need" was used for customers.
Need to wear a mask might not be required to wear a mask. They might be using this wording to get around smoking or drinking or eating problems associated with masks. Frankly, they are advocating a clean room atmosphere akin to an ICU unit with wipe downs, sanitizing, rails, chairs, dice, tables etc being wiped down continuously.
I saw nothing about ash trays being cleaned, ashes vacuumed up or anything like that. If they allow smoking and vaping but want "sterile" like no other...then I have no words. It will never work. You can't be a little bit clean or a little bit pregnant. Either you are advocating an operating room environment or not.
The more I read what Wynn plans to do....the more questions I had.

I think the guidelines were intended to get the conversation started. nothing is in stone. This is brand new territory and everyone needs to adapt to changing circumstances. Someone had to be the first to announce changes and I'm sure Wynn will modify these things as they bump up against real life. It seems to me that half the people in VIP lounges don't think that rules apply to them anyway.
I'm starting to be very amused. Every human being is a killer and a victim, they should just store us under Yucca Mountain. I can see you're hoping this change of possibly not allowing smoking for a temporary reason will be permanent. Some day it will, but not soon.Quote: TDVegasI don't know how any of this is going to be workable. Wynn had wording on masks that I took to be ambiguous. I’m not completely sure smoking and vaping will be banned from the casino floor. Logic of trying to create the best clean air, clean surface environment says it should be banned...but so far the actual edict of no smoking has not been said.
If allowed....this Governor is a COMPLETE hypocrite that “health” is driving all his decision making.
Time will tell.
