A forum where everyone was the same as me would be a very boring place. Everyone, even people whose style I may not care for, have worthwhile things to say, and sometimes, egads, I might even learn something.
Placing someone on Ignore just robs me of an opportunity to learn. (If nothing else, at least one can learn what not to say). LOL

I can understand your point when we are both in the same yard, but if I am in Mississippi and you are in Oregon, I would pull that $5 out of the appropriate orfice ans shove it down your throat.

Sally,

In your enthusiasm I think you got a little carried away. The Wizard has always acknowledged other people's assistance by name. He is very scrupulous about that. In fact his website still states:
Acknowledgement: My thanks to BruceZ for this help with this problem.

I sincerely appreciate the times you have found errors in my work.

Monday morning quarterbacking is always easy but I wonder if Sally's concerns might have been better addressed in a private message to the Wizard.

I agree with Sally's method. This is a forum and Mike takes constructive criticism.

I would be too. The guy was opinionated, but that's what's makes him worth reading. Maybe I agreed with him mostly (which is why I also think EvenBob is one of our greatest contributors) so his posts kept me coming back. If you didn't like mkl, then block him, but don't keep reading and then whining about his posts. The whole JerryLogan/mkl feud was entertaining and kept me logging in. I kinda miss it. We don't have anything like that now.

Hey Wiz, I have a question about banning for "Multiple Identities."

I assume you can easily tell the IP address from which a post is generated, and one would logically conclude that if two messages have come from the same IP address, under different names, then the same person is using Multiple Identies.

OK, but WHAT IF two posters share the same computer, e.g. husband and wife, or two brothers?

Kind of unfair to ban both when / if it was an unknowing action.

Not that I think this happens, but hey, it's a strange, strange world..

So, "What if>"

I'm pretty sure The Wiz, and other forum administrators, use the IP address sparingly. For one, the reason you suggest. For another, members can legitimately be using multiple IP addresses in a single day.

For example, I have my home IP, work IP, and wherever I may be on my iPhone (if so inclined). Also, I deal in a poker league several days per week. I ALWAYS bring my laptop with me and log on. Some of the bars we play in have multiple WiFi access points, and which gets used can change based on conditions.

Lastly, what IP shows up for users on SmartPhones that are using the cellular data network rather than WiFi? Is it one IP for all ATT cell data users? That could create multiples right there.

OK, so what gives the Multiple Poster away then, if not use of the same IP address?

Surely Mike would not bust someone based solely on his belief that their writing styles are the same.

Regarding these hypothetical situations, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. As far as I know, the number of husband/wife forum members is zero anyway.

What I meant was, since users can have mutiple IPs - and some of them public/shared WiFi - it increases the chances of users hitting the same IP.

I wouldn't worry about it, this isn't google. This is a small-town-type board, privately owned and managed. The issue only comes up when there is abuse, and said users tend to be exposed as trolls in a short time since people who do multiple IDs kind of have, well, real personality issues. Advice to all is avoid analysis paralysis, go with the "Supreme Court definition of pornography."
