that pick was just so obvious - the line seemed so wrong - I don't see stuff like that very often
Soopoo is I think 23-6 now in his picks in the contest after yesterday - fantastic - I don't recall ever seeing anybody do that with that many picks - I can't touch that - have never even been remotely close
he says he thinks it's luck but I kinna doubt that -
I think he's much better than me re nfl picks - I'm kinna losing interest actually

Check my results from previous years. Might I be able to hit 51% long term? Possible, but I’d bet against me.

I know you are happy with your pick, but ‘seemed so obvious’ is really easy to write after the game.

It seemed so obvious that the Seahawks would beat the Giants.
It seemed so obvious that the 49ers would win.
It seemed so obvious Notre Dame would beat Northern Illinois

Until they didn’t.

And I’m 24-6!

you have been doing a lot of betting for a few years I think
you are discounting the possibility/probability that you have improved and are now more insightful
24-6 0 is 80% winners - I don't expect you will keep doing that - but your current record is so extreme - that I think it's very possible you have skill, not just luck at this

the 9ers and Seahawks game were spreads of - 7 - didn't seem that out of line
but the Commanders were only - 3 at home against a terrible team with Deshaun Watson who is a disaster on and off the field (sexual assault charges) and most probably a head case

I agree with your first point. That’s why I said I might be as good as 51%. I’m certainly better at figuring out how to use bonuses, free bets, etc…. than I was when I first started betting a few years ago.
I may be a few standard deviations above expected so far. I will be trying my hardest to win this thing. If still ahead I know I’d be good at deciding to possibly use a bye week. Or not use a confidence pick. But I have 65 more picks to make. Given even money I’d bet a ton I don’t win 35 of them. Given the occasional ’stale lines’ we use I put a fair o/u at 33.5.

But I do appreciate your confidence in me. And for what it’s worth, I’ve been loving the Commanders all year!

I am stunned at BetMGM’s recent offers. 4 consecutive weeks deposit $200, and with minimal playthrough, get $100 bonus. This week they changed maximum to deposit to $100, get $50. So past 5 weeks they’ve just given me $450. Had I wanted to, I could have met the playthrough on solely +EV bets through their profit boost offers. I do make - EV bets there for a variety of reasons.
My total action for the year will be so little I’ll be the lowest level on all 5 sites next year, I think. Once I’m in Florida for 6 months I’ll be a sub-guppy.

Currently only Hard Rock is available for sports in Florida. I would expect others will join in the next few years. I read that one of the bigger players is currently in talks with the Seminoles to partner up.

one of the big regrets for me is having betMGM get ticked off at me. I get no such offers at all.

I really think it had to do with withdrawing money and having that cause a look at what i was doing, which was completely legal and no [not even gray area] bonus abuse

No way to be sure, but I’m guessing just withdrawing is not the trigger. I’ve made withdrawals far in excess of what I deposited. I believe that me sprinkling in some (presumably!) -EV bets keeps me off the radar. I just got another $25 today from my points I earned by making those +EV bets recently. I usually make a bunch of -EV bets with whatever purely free money they give me. So far I’ve made 12 separate $1 virtually random bets today, mostly on NHL games.

Recently lilred opined how he doesn’t like gambling anymore. I think I’m still enjoying it a lot, as it is kind of like solving a puzzle. I don’t do those for the money either.

I think classifying what you do as gambling may be a stretch. I would probably say it is more educated competitive shopping

Watching Mets/Dodgers. Jesse Winker just called out on a pitch that wasn’t in the same Zip Code as the strike zone. I am sure those who bet on the ‘under’ for strikeouts should sue! Of course I just think the umpire sucks, but there are so many subjective calls that affect millions of dollars it just seems dirty.

It won't be long before the computers are calling balls and strikes in baseball. The technology is already there. They just have to negotiate something with the umpires union.

The Owls travel to play the Blue Raiders tonight and the Owls are getting 9 points. Will this be the first win for the Owls as they visit Murfeesborro? If I was betting I would probably lay the 9 points with the Blue Raiders.

I had never heard of the Blue Raiders and was curious how a school that honored Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate General who later founded the KKK, ended up with such a nickname. Its origin makes for an interesting read.

I have lived in Tenn for over 40 years and have never heard of "Nathan Bedford Forrest Day" so it's probably some weird obsolete holiday that was voted on more than 100 years ago that almost everyone alive today is unaware of. I certainly doubt that it gets "celebrated" as stated by DRich.

That's like me saying that I can't believe that Florida has a town named Taintsville. What kind of genius-IQ Floridians want to celebrate and call attention to their "taints." What kind of fine dining restaurants can we find in Taintsville, Florida?

Or claiming that Nebraska celebrate the fact that they forbid people with Aids and/or Herpes, Syphilis, etc. from getting married in their State. "No person who is afflicted with a venereal disease shall marry in this state," Nebraska’s Revised Statute Chapter 42-102 states." It's just obsolete, forgotten junk from the past.

Or, let's ask "why do Arizona residents celebrate the fact that gender-flexible dress is illegal in Tucson?" One city-specific law in Tucson, Arizona applies to people who do not dress in a manner “of his or her sex.” You cannot cross-dress in Tucson due to an outdated city ordinance. A person can receive a charge for a misdemeanor offense if he or she wears opposite-gender clothes in Tucson. (Again, this is about the practice of claiming that residents of a state 'celebrate' stuff that they are unaware of, and is not at all about the issue of gender-flexibility.)

He was not the founder of the Klan. It was founded by a bunch of old Rebs, literally because they were bored and wanted to do something fun, and they didn't have the right pedigree to join any other fraternities. Forrest took it over after it "became a thing."

I’ve been on a lucky streak. Have hit a few of the boosted 3 and 4 leg parlays. Trust the process…

One interesting bet I made that I think was HUGELY +EV. Towards end of Bills game Bills are up 3. Jets have ball. Three reasonable scenarios. Jets score TD and win. Jets get FG and force OT. Bills stop Jets and run out the clock. It was not impossible the Bills would score again but EXTREMELY likely they would not.
One book had the Jets at +3.5 at -175. I guesstimated that it was less than 10% chance the Bills would win by more than 3 at that point. I bet it. (Jets +3.5) And checked the other sites, which had Bills favored by 2.5. And at appropriate -EV odds. I should have bet more on first site!

I rode with DRich on his college bet. I got better line, so won that $.

BetMGM last two Lions boosts which were trivially +EV both hit. It’s nice when variance is on your side.

It is only illegal for women to wear men's clothing in Tucson. The law was designed to keep females from passing as male cow hands until the herd was too far away to replace the impersonator. Evidently, that was an issue in the 1880s.

I found it strange that a college closely affiliated with him named their teams the Blue Raiders. Gray Ghosts would seem more appropriate.

As far as the man goes, he was a great tactician who didn't understand strategy. While his individual feats in combat are nearly mythical, his inability to follow orders and supervise his troops undermined his performance. He was a corps commander responsible for the actions of some 15,000 men, but he liked to lead his men in combat rather than direct it, as a General should.
In the aftermath of Chickamauga, with the entire Union Army on the brink of disaster and retreating in chaos, General Bragg sent orders for all Cavalry units to pursue at full speed and recapture Chattanooga. General Forest never got the orders as he was busy leading a 300-man detachment after Union supply wagons. His 12,000 men never got the order to advance and the city was saved.
His strategy was simple- get there first and get there with more men. It's come down as a quaint- git their firstest with the mostest
but that was wartime propaganda designed to denigrate the foe.

I believe history is an okay subject, but I didn't mean to comment on anything but the nickname. He was a colorful character. Very few men rise from being a Private to General , even in wartime

I have a small bet on FIU -7 against UTEP.. I only bet it because Hard Rock gave me +130 on it when -110 was the going number. If I was forced to bet it I would probably take UTEP +7 -110. The game is in El Paso and UTEP has scored some points against teams better that FIU.

I have never heard of him but I will look it up now.

Wow, i can't believe that they still celebrate "Nathan Bedford Forrest Day" in Tennessee.

About twenty years ago, a newspaper on Long Island revealed that the Malverne Police Department had a contract where if any union member got holiday pay, then the Malverne cops got it. Among the holidays New York taxpayers were paying overtime for were Jefferson Davis Day, Nat Forrest Day, the day that four states were admitted to the Union in 1912, St Patricks Day and about fifty others. They got holiday pay for about forty percent of their shifts. All the other departments were limited to holidays recognized by NY State.

The Mets pitched to Ohtani with players in scoring position
WTF
What are they thinking ?
He's only the hottest baseball player in the history of the game.
Yes, the entire history.
17 for 20 with runners in scoring position or RISP
No batter through any 20 chances RISP reg season or playoffs ever has been hotter and he's doing it now.
Talk about clutch.

It’s an anomaly. Unless you believe he is the worst player in the history of the game with no one on base!

But in totality, he is must watch TV. Even my wife, who doesn’t like baseball at all, will watch ‘the tall Japanese kid’.

I did make money on ‘either Ohtani or Vientos’ HR at +180 yesterday.

I have a wager on Purdue tonight getting 28 points against Oregon. Oregon is a very good team and Purdue is a rather poor team. I just imagine there is a good chance that Oregon is a little flat after their big win against Ohio State and the long trip from Eugene to West Lafyette, Score prediction Oregon 41 Purdue 17

At this pace I may also need a pro bono divorce attorney.

FD offering +150 on Brunson and Towns to each score 20. Brunson’s O/U is 29.5. Towns O/U is 23.5. I bet 20 units on the parlay. And hedged on Towns U 23.5. Lose a bunch if Brunson under 20. Win a little if Towns under 20. Win a lot of Towns 20-23. Win a little if Towns 24 or over. I may make(a likely -EV) bet on Brunson 30. I think Pacers/Knicks will be fast paced. More scoring for all!

(Ok, not a lot. My ‘unit’ is $1).

Anyway, I think the combo is +EV by over 20%.

DraftKings has this great promo going on. Bet $10 on any players O/U points, and get it boosted. So probably about +EV $1. Not much. But…. If your player has the most PRA for the night, you also get a share of $1,000,000 in bonus bets. I picked Doncic, he won, so I got a $36 bonus bet. Tonight riding Antetokounmpo. There are a few players that will tend to dominate this stat. I’d guess I’ll win the bonus 1/5 -1/4 of the time.

Brunson /Towns combo hit PERFECTLY. Won the main bet and all the hedges as well.

Antetokounmpo hit for 51 PRA. Good chance that will win. But surprisingly, Buddy Hield has a monster 1st half, and 29 PRA at halftime.

Betting is fun.

Trae Young beat Giannis.
Yesterday had Jokic who had MONSTER game!
Butttttt….. Lebron had MMOONNSSTTEERR game.

So my (likely -EV) pick of the day is Cowboys +5. TheCowboys are 3-0 on the road. The 49ers without McCaffrey have basically been average at best. And now they lost Aiyuk. AND Jennings. With BOTH Kittle and Samuel still on the injury report!

I have some parlays with both QBs hitting over in yards passing. Not sure why!

tomorrow is the Breeders Cup Classic - the richest race in North America with a $7 million purse
the morning line fave is City of Troy - 5/2 - a European invader who is truly great but has only run on turf (grass)
the Classic is on dirt and I don't think he can win it -
he's had a long, hard trip to get here
horses on dirt are quicker out of the gate and he could get blocked
it's not unheard of but it's quite rare for a horse to be great on both turf and dirt
his trainer Aiden O'Brien is great but he is 0 for 17 in the Classic

I will make a wimpy show bet on the 2nd fave in the morning line (3/1) Fierceness - #9 - he is a very, very strong horse

with 14 horses in the field and no odds on fave show prices might be pretty decent

Fierceness has won 3 Grade 1 Stakes races for older horses on dirt and he set a record in the Florida Derby in winning by 13.5 lengths

last time out he won the Travers Stakes holding off the spectacular mare Thorpedo Anna's late charge by a head

he has won both by taking the early lead and by coming off the pace

he's not perfect - he bombed in the Kentucky Derby and finished 15th

Do you belive this is a +EV bet? Don't be shy, there is no need to be cautious, I just need a YES or NO.

I need to get some action in, so winning is nice, but losing is fine. They love it when you bet horses, it usually means big-time sucker.

I don't wanna use the term EV for a bet like this with 14 horses in the field - you can't know what the payouts will be if you win until after the race is over (show bets)
let's just say I think it's a good bet
and if you don't have accounts at horse racing books you can get bonus money by signing up (new customers only)
I've linked 3 of them for you

the best imo is OTB - the first one - 100% deposit match up to $200 - although they exclude certain states for certain reasons - so a caution flag

UFC event is in Canada tonight. In my view Canadian judges are skewed towards the Canadian fighters, and it’s not fully captured by the odds. I’ll be on the Canadians tonight, especially those where the total indicates it is likely to go to decision.

Part of it is that the crowd goes wild for a soft jab landed by the Canadian fighter, while remains silent when the Brazilian lands a strong hook.

a smallish payout because low odds horses finished with him but not terrible
