I am thinking about sponsoring a small prize, "The Cleveland Browns Award". So whoever has the worst 2 weeks ( seasons ) in a row would win a few bucks. Any other fun ideas ? I would say taking a "skip week" resets the clock.

I thought of doing two of them, but they are both sort of mean spirited / angle shooting so I thought probably a bad idea;
1) Award for the person that picks Cleveland the most times (contrary to the Mission hypothesis that it’s a bad bet).
2) Award for the person that finishes immediately below me in the rankings.
The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong; but that is the way to bet.

Maybe that will work, maybe it won't. The game has a deadline, the Axel play doesn't, and could be less than optimal if a deadline is imposed.
I would suggest, for parity among players, that people treat these as totally separate transactions. It will cause some arguments unnecessarily if the money is not in the escrow fund by the deadline, and/or some people are extended credit when 14 people have already paid.
I do insist that I have actual funds for each person playing in escrow by the time we start. Otherwise me doing this is pointless.

Agreed 10 fold. Not only that, who is to be transfering all of the money out? Are we actually transfering all of the money to Axel, or is he going to go "nah, I doubled the stash, so just let me transfer the winnings over to the Wiz." Is the Wiz gonna take your cut, say $28, send $25 to babs for this game, then send you 3? I "think" the Wiz is in charge of all of the money as of now, and he's just sitting on it while we give Axel a total and let him run with it. Thus, when the game/play is over, the Wiz will distribute the appropriate amounts to everyone (again assuming he gets the winning total amount from Axel). These are and should be treated as completely separate transactions.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

I just remembered that Wizard’s choking on the dust at Burning Man this week, so maybe it is best to not burden him with a crush of multiple split requests for the funds he his holding from the Coop game and just pay BBB directly for the Picks game now. We can all settle the Coop payouts (and Axel play, if participating), directly with Wizard later.
I agree that no matter what, each Picks game entrant is responsible for getting their fee to BBB before the stated deadlines.

Here's a shout out to Babs. My payment was also lost in "email phantom zone." I eventually succeeded at getting it to her but it took over a dozen messages back and forth -and she was very patient and helpful. Just saying - that this escrow task she is doing is not a trivial little thing - I suspect it is a royal pain in the butt.
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

Yup and thanks to Babs. Escrowing payment is one of the things I needed to have secured to enter. It's not a lot of money, but I would hate to put effort into a contest and not end up getting paid at the end.

You choose 5 games from those played on Sunday or Monday in the NFL each week.
Mission publishes a line that shows who's favored, and what the books expect the totals of both team's scores to add up to.
You make a total of 5 entries, either one of the teams in a game, or whether the score will be under or over that. You PM those choices to Mission before the games start that week.
The person who gets the most right by percentage in the full season wins.

Mission will publish it on the Thursday prior to each weeks games in this and/or the official rules thread.

Also, note the option to designate one of the five a "confidence" pick. It will double count as a "sixth" pick.

That first game on Sept 6 with the Falcons is on a Thursday. The Thursday games are not eligibile to be picked against because Mission's line is posted on Thursday (sometimes late.) The first week will involve picking five of the games that are on Sep 9 or Sep 10 against Mission's line that will be posted on Sep 6.

Okay. I'm "in" though I sure don't think I know what I'm doing and doubt the word 'confidence' will be relevant for me.
I was surely confused by that early August post which required us to join by July but I finally realized that was joining the Forum not joining this particular contest.
I understand that there will be a Twenty Five Dollar entry fee and that it will be on the honor system. As you all know Fleastiff has no honor but did indeed promptly pay his fee for entertaining you all with his "Love-Fifteen" tie breaker score in the March Madness Brackets Contest.
OOPS. Apparently it is no longer on the honor system (drat it all), but Fleastiff, having recently donated plasma is flush and able to pay the entry fee.
Fleastiff hereby declares "No Action" on the Falcons game that takes place on a Thursday.
Fleastiff will Private Message Mission 146, plain text but no particular format, to inform him that "I'm in and more or less understand the terms and procedures".
OOPS; It seems that BBB is holding the purse so I will PM her about my plasma money.

Have you considered doing these picks on CBS Sportsline? They already have a program designed for pick pools and are automatically tracked and players can only submit their picks within a certain time frame. You can view everyone's picks on a spreadsheet once the cut off time is in and see who failed to submit their picks. Keeps cumulative score and historical weekly winners too.
If that's how you are running the pool I'm in. Only by the compute is how I play, just like fantasy football.

Does CBS Sportsline allow you to only pick five games? Does it allow you to select one pick as a Confidence Pick, worth twice as much as a regular pick? Does it allow one (and only one) Skip Week?
We also already have a program designed for our pick pool. We also only can submit picks within a certain time frame. We also can view everyone's picks very soon after the last person has submitted their picks, and see who failed to submit their picks. We also track weekly and cumulative scores.

You all sound like "I don't want to use a contacts list on my cell phone because I have a little black address book with all the phone numbers I need."
We occasionally have problems with Mission not posting the lines on time, or the WOV site becoming inaccessible and needing to use work-arounds to WOV messages. We are required to send messages with the text in very specific format to match the needs of Miplet's program and the needs of Mission to post the results. Why not be open-minded about exploring the use of online sites?

As with many software programs the best one is always one that you both already have and know how to use.
A learning curve with SuperDuperSportsSite can be daunting. The same old way as last year, despite a few glitches now and then, is often a wise choice.
Now of course I can envision a few problems, which may well never take place.
The use of that 'minus' sign in the submission format: I'm sure someone will use an underscore or use a dash instead. Frankly most of the kinks have probably been worked out and its nice to have some data manipulation routines already to run.
So I'd say let the volunteers who are running this make the decisions about their time and their computers.

We also already have a program designed for our pick pool. We also only can submit picks within a certain time frame. We also can view everyone's picks very soon after the last person has submitted their picks, and see who failed to submit their picks. We also track weekly and cumulative scores.

Yes for most. I play in a similar pool where 1 pick is worth 3 pts, two picks are worth 2 pts and the rest a single point. Whether you can exclude a number of games I think you can as many don't include the Thursday games
I'm not the commish but I think you can design or modify it. Not sure though you would have to verify.
As far as confidentiality, no different than a forum, you can use an alias or your own screen name.
