Remember, your Default Picks must be something that is repeatable.
You also have the option to have me use random.org after assigning numbers to each of the lines. For example:
Jets (+25) @ Patriots (-25) O/U 48
Would have the following random values:
1.) Jets +25
2.) Patriots -25
3.) Jets OVER 48
4.) Jets UNDER 48

Is it possible to have the 5 and then a few other teams in order to pull from if one or more of the 5 are not playing?
Do I have to pick all the games or only AND only five? With one Confidence pick.
Of the games I pick, do I have to play the over/under with it or is the over/ under bet be submitted as a separate pick? For example can I submit 5 total over under bets?
If the total bets are associated to the games with the spread, what constitutes as a correct pick. Both or one each?

Yes, you may do that. The most bye weeks in a single week is six, so if you list sixteen teams, you're guaranteed to be covered. (You have to consider that two teams on your list could theoretically be playing one another)
From a practical standpoint, you probably only really need about ten.

1.) You MUST pick exactly five games ATS, Over/Under or a combination of those totaling exactly five.
2.) The Confidence Pick is optional and counts as two picks in the Standings, but only counts as one pick made in a week. (You would still need to make four other picks)
3.) The Over/Under and ATS Picks have nothing to do with one another. You can pick both for the same game and it would be two separate picks if you wanted. For instance, if you had:
Browns (+419) @ Patriots -419 O/U 421
Then, you could pick:
Patriots -419
Patriots OVER 421
And, that would be two Picks. If you wanted one to be Confidence:
Patriots -419-CONFIDENCE
Patriots OVER 421
Then, that is still two picks, but the first will count in the standings twice unless the Pats win by EXACTLY 419.
You could also do:
Patriots -419
Without picking the O/U and that is one pick.
Or:
Patriots OVER 421
And that is one pick.
For the most part, people just play spreads. Occasionally, I sometimes see a spread and O/U for the same game and I figure that people often think if x team covers, then y likely happened on the O/U, which often makes sense.

You only make 5 picks each week. One of the 5 can be (but doesn’t have to be) designated a “confidence” pick, and will count as double.

You can pick the over/under in addition to a side, but you do not have to. If you pick both the o/u and a side, it counts as two of your five picks.

You can pick a side only, an o/u only or both. All would be correct. Note tha choosing a side and an o/u counts as two of your five picks.
The prohibited combination is picking both sides in a game. I defer to Mission to clarify what happens if someone does this.

The following addendum has been made to the Rules and is now Official:
9.) "Offsetting Picks"
Any Picks made that directly offset one another shall constitute TWO LOSSES and will disqualify the person making such offsetting picks from winning any consolation prize. "Offsetting Picks," are picking two opposite things to happen in the same game.
Again, I'm not sure this has ever actually happened.

That's right!
For example say I pick the team x +3 and they lose by exactly 3 points...

Saturday games have never been eligible, but it has been brought up. If you remember, we can put it to a vote at the end of this season for next year.
If we did it, checking start times against PMs received would be kind of a pain, so what I’d probably do is require picks be made (for anyone who wants a Saturday game) prior to kickoff of the first game Saturday.

Thats how I took it. Was pretty funny for a new guy. But since he'd said it upthread, I wanted to clarify before someone thought I was on the hook for it.
This post is to inform everyone that I am about to send the reminders for Week 1, for those who meet the following criteria:
1.) You are on BBB's list.
2.) You have not already submitted picks for this week.
I'm taking special care not to miss anyone this week, but that fact notwithstanding, it's important to keep in mind that Reminders are a courtesy-not a requirement-on my end. I believe I have done the reminders every week this has happened other than one or two weeks in six years, but the times sometimes differ.

EDIT TO ADD: Seriously, though, the purpose of this game is for us to have an additional thing of the forum, by the forum and for the forum. If we use CBS Sports, I'm assuming they have some sort of chat function, so next thing you know we're doing all of our trash talking and etc. over there instead of here.
CBS Sports is doing fine on web traffic. I promise. They don't need us.

What I don't like is how it informs what the general public is playing or what the experts are picking which may influence some of the playes picks. Kind of like an aide or gold sheet so to speak.
It's just a convenience factor on both ends for the player and the admin, I'm a busy guy playing in multiple pools and leagues, just a suggestion. Much easier to click and submit that typing and sending private messages
It's only $25 so I'm really not too concerned if I make a mistake submitting in the incorrect format. I'm sure I'll get use to it after a few weeks.

If you would like to organize a game next football season and run it on CBS Sportsline such that my game becomes redundant, then that is fine. If nobody decides to play my game anymore and instead favors your CBS Sportsline game, that is also fine. However, as long as I am running the game, the game will be contained 100% (other than banned Members can E-Mail me their picks) on the Forum.

Unless you don't already go to that site. The nice thing, I assume, for many of the players here is that they would already be here anyway. I don't think I've visited CBS Sportsline in my life and I also think almost everything about CBS sucks.
CORRECTION: Pauley Perrette (who is just so, so hot) is apparently no longer on NCIS, so everything about CBS sucks.

1. Their defaults are their lookout, not yours. Obviously you were going to play - it's your game.
2. Who says their defaults are any good?
3. If you and any of them are in contention towards the end, send them a warning if you feel the need, and invite them to make unique picks that won't be opened until after you pick.
4. This is a forum of math guys. I think we can figure the finances if you win/place/show.
I think that VegasSports' suggestion that we use CBSSports or another similar online system is excellent. I agree with him - this WOV-based system for running the Picks game is clunky and unreliable and medieval.
I understand that VegasSports and I are not going to win this argument, but there is no reason to belittle him.
Let's just get on with this contest. And,you want trash talk? You got trash talk.
If you want to be "Medieval Mission" who uses out-dated unreliable, labor-intensive methods to run a contest, then do it. Stay in denial about the fact that this is 2018 and that you are "so ten-years ago." Suck the fun out of the contest with endless rules about how we are disqualified if we don't perfectly format our picks message in order to make it easy on Ed Collins and yourself. After all, this contest should be more about penmanship than about sports picking, right?
If you think that VegasSports is wrong, then show us how intelligent you are by out-picking him. Or by out-picking me. Show us that we are nothing but moons that orbit around Planet Mission in the Mission-centric NFL Picks Contest. Show us that you're better at picking the NFL games than you are at evaluating technologies for how to run a contest. Show us you're more than Mission the Medieval Monk who hand-scribes the results of the contest onto parchment.
And please, please, OH GOD, please. Spare us one of your long, windy defensive posts.
Instead, just bet me $50 as to whether I finish above you in the final standings. (Um, NO, wait a minute, maybe not. Exactly who does Mission send his picks to?)
