Farleigh-Dickenson a number 16 seed beats Purdue a number 1 seed. Only the second time ever a #16 beats a #1 in NCAA basketball history.

New Jersey should be proud with a #15 and #16 winning.

this was the 3rd year in a row that Purdue has lost to a double digit seed

Purdue was booted out by the no. 15 seed Saint Peter's in the sweet 16 last year

I think Cody Rhodes finally wins the WWE Championship that eluded his family for the past fifty years, but I'm not silly enough to bet on a WWE match.

Just watched the replay. Ramos fought well and was not intimidated. Ramos tried a risky move at the end and it paid off with the pin. As Bruce Arians says, "No risk it, no biscuit."

My two younger brothers were very accomplished youth and high school wrestlers. Both conference, sectional and state champions more than once. Both, however, ended up with neck/spinal injuries needing surgery by their early 20's as a result.

Yes, Ramos did not seem intimidated at all. He could have beaten him the last time they wrestled. I am excited for the finals tonight. Sadly, only one Hawkeye in it and I think he is vulnerable even as a #1 seed.

1 seed Houston vs. Auburn had some statistical oddities.

Auburn lost the second half 50-23 despite shooting 26 free throws, scored less points than free throws. Got beat handily but had a chance to pull it out with halfway competent free throw shooting. Shooting 20+ free throws while losing a half by 20+ is likely a historical occurence?

And then as of six minutes remaining 11 OF 18 missed field goals by Auburn had been blocked shots, had more shots blocked than simply missed.

the Farleigh Dickinson story continues -

they lost 15 games this season -

they lost the Northeast Conf. Tourney but got in to the Madness anyway because of an obscure rule that made Merrimack, the team that beat them ineligible

here are some of the teams they lost to in the regular season:

Hartford, Richmond, Queens, Sacred Heart, Stonehill and they got crushed by the basketball power Longwood__________________(-:\

today they're 14.5 point dogs to Florida Atlantic

people tell covers.com who they're betting on and 73% have picked those Farleigh dudes_____

MLB new rules

the most impactful is the new pitch clock

pitchers will have 15 seconds with the bases empty and 20 seconds with a runner on to begin their motion or they will be assessed a ball

batters not back in the box within 8 seconds get called for a strike

Perhaps, but when you couple that with the fact that the pitcher is now limited to a maximum of 2 pickoff throws per batter (the 3rd will result in a balk if it doesn't produce an out), I think we will see a noticeable increase in stolen bases.

MLB used to have well over 3000 total steals per season. In 2021, it had the fewest steals since 1981 for a full season at around 2200. I'll be very surprised if there aren't 3,000 steals this year, maybe 3500.

Interesting. Asking….. if the pitcher does not catch the return throw from the catcher, does the clock start when he ‘should’ have caught it, or when he actually picks it up?

Also, what recourse does an umpire have if the catcher has chosen not to throw the ball back to the pitcher in a ‘timely’ fashion?

Knicks Mets Jets (almost Rangers) was my childhood sports upbringing in 1969-1970. I was a Frazier fan the most, but the limping Reed is a forever moment.

Changing topic…. I need Oregon to beat Wisconsin. I’ve tried to watch the game but the court is SO ANNOYING! SOme bastardization of tan and brown in a messy pattern.

So watching WBC instead. Vaunted US lineup looks like minor leaguers against Japanese pitchers I haven’t heard of. One was a 20 year old kid. Two more innings to fix it.

Caitlin Clark whose Iowa team in the Elite 8 is the only Division 1 player ever to lead in p.p.g. with 27 and assists with 8

she's accurate from way, way out there - in this vid I'm estimating some of her shots are 35 feet out

really, really, impressive

I believe the Big Ten has three teams in the Elite Eight. I went to school at U of Iowa so I will be rooting for them. Clearly South Carolina is the best team and I think that is undeniable.

It is hard to believe it has been seven years since UConn won a championship after the dominance they have shown over the last 20 years.

a look back at the 1973 Title game won by UCLA over Memphis State
Walton set a title game record with 44 points - 21 of 22 from the field
Memphis was tremendously proud of their team for going that far

That is probably the first basketball game that I have any memory of. I was 7 years old at the time and just remember that big guy that never missed. In retrospect, this was before the dunk was allowed so going 21 for 22 is even more impressive.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

I think Bill Walton was the best big man ever. Had injuries not hobbled his career he'd have been spoken of in the same terms as Wilt and Kareem.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

That’s what they said about Yao Ming.

I wonder how awesome Ralph Sampson would have been in today’s game, had some unique abilities. Could he have been more like Giannis is today or better?

Him and Mychal Thompson both didn’t quite live up to massive expectations but their athletic gifts at their height may have been better where the game is less physical with more spacing.

Highlights from then 22-year-old rookie 7'5 Yao Ming's first game against prime Shaq, the reigning league MVP, as a rookie. Shut down at the rim or blocked his first four shots after Shaq had mocked him, the bully got bullied.
Yao was a problem could have been one of the best, could shoot the ball too, but like Walton is feet were just as big of a problem as his game.
