Try to keep my daily calories at around 2800 so I don’t gain or lose any weight
Quote: FleaStiffI got cans chicken, anyone know what I can do with it OTHER than adding mayonaise and making it inedible glop?
That stuff smells exactly like canned cat food.
Anything that I would use canned chicken for, shredding a grocery store rotisserie chicken is usually cheaper and better tasting.
Canned meat has the shelf life advantage though.
Anyway there’s a ton of stuff you can do with it....
Taco/Quesadilla
Use it in Pasta
Use it in Fried Rice
Chicken Noodle Soup
White Bean Chicken Chili
Casseroles
Buffalo Chicken Dip

Normies might call it soda.
the thing is, I have become totally convinced it has to be a permanent thing , the new normal, but you also have to like this new normal. Emphasis on that latter part. 'Dieting' is too often eating stuff you don't like, with fewer calories than you'll ever stick with, with some kind of stupid notion after losing some weight you can later go back to what you were doing before [perhaps not admitting it to yourself]
It's a journey, so far some progress. One thing that is working well is borrowing the weightwatchers idea that there are some things you can just eat all you want. So how does that fit with needing to like it? Well, actually, I do like vegetables, always have. It was really dumb of me not to have employed this before now: any *snacking* I do is pretty much this "eat all you want' stuff.
Today it is Kohlrabi. One nice side benefit is that they come with greens attached, see images. I add greens to Progresso soups constantly, if the soup is supposed to have greens they never have enough for me. At this point I'm getting more greens than I can really eat, but it's a nice problem to have.

In parts of New England they call a soft drink "tonic."

Hah, this is hilarious since I grew up calling it "pop" (that was in Idaho). But I've completely assimilated to soda over the past 16 years living in different places. I didn't even place it as a term for a beverage in that post, which is crazy to me.

I gave up soda about 2 years ago
I really cut down on sugar 6 months ago
My whole life, I kept ice cream in the freezer and it was my daily night time desert
My Dr read me the riot act regarding diabetes. I gave up Ice Cream :-(
I miss it but health is more important

How do you eat kohlrabi? I have never eaten it and I also love vegetables. I make huge salads with lots of greens and anything else that is healthy. I also add ground flax seed to everything. You do have to watch the salt in Progresso soups as it is really high. Cutting salt from my "diet" has made the biggest change in my personal health. I also agree it is a life style change.

Yes. See my response above. I grew up in Pop country (Idaho) and then further lived in Pop country for 9 years after college (Seattle). But in Seattle I mostly hung out with transplants from all over the place.
Now I'm firmly in Soda country (MA), so it's a good thing I assimilated.

Flax does add a lot of fiber. However in my opinion it is the best food you can feed your body. There are places in the world where people seem to live the longest and most have flax in their diet. Google flax and its health benefits.
I like broccoli so I will try kohlrabi.

You are a man on a mission Mr Rich!
specifically, how do you use the flax seed?
Salsa is chopped tomato, kiwi and some onion
Crema is simply sour cream , little lime juice , salt, pepper
Chop up a Poblano and slice an onion, cook about 5 min adding some MEX spice mix
Add ground pork and cook another 5 min
Stir in some tomato paste, chicken stock concentrate and a little water. Salt and pepper
Have soft tortillas wrapping the cooked filling, salsa and crema
I don't mess around when it comes to dinner. You only live once. You are what you eat
It came with tater tots which were very salty. Not a bad meal for $2.99
Projected dinner is a protein shake.

Quote: odiousgambitoh! nothing wrong with getting fiber, personally I get digestive problems without plenty, though on my current diet i need no supplements

The flax must be ground and you can buy it that way. It does not have much flavor and that is good because you can sprinkle it on any food you want. Soup, cereal, potatoes, stir fry, rice, ect. I keep it in the refrigerator and have some once or twice a day on anything I eat.

Speaking of which, during Christmas I learned something about my grandpa.
He doesn’t hate black people, Mexicans, Asians, gays, transformed(?) people, or any other type of “minority”. But he CAN NOT STAND Midwesterners and anything relating to the Midwest. First I thought he was joking around...but no. He was absolutely livid.
So yeah, he’s kinda my hero.
Oh yeah, I just ate the s*** out of a medium subway sandwich. Nom nom nom, as they say.

Sounds awesome minus the pig. Get you some cotija cheese! Goes great with the crema.

I do recall that its sold as a vinegar drenched salad in the sushi section of grocery stores.
Quote: FleaStiffI got cans chicken, anyone know what I can do with it OTHER than adding mayonaise and making it inedible glop?
Do a vegetable stir fry with frozen vegetables, Asian mix. Right at the end, add the well-drained canned chicken, and use soy sauce with a little little corn starch to thicken it to dress it. Serve over heated cauliflower, riced (also in the frozen vegetable section). Very tasty, kills the canned aftertaste.

In the pantheon of fast food subs, Subway is not at the top of the list.
The best subs from a national chain are from Jersey Mike's, a franchised operation that seems to be spreading.
Very close to what I recall eating in NJ back in the day.
Avoid Subway if you've a better option; hell, even Quiznos is better than Subway.
I'll call a spade a spade: Subway is to subs as Domino's is to pizza.

But yes, Domino’s pizza is definitely the best. Even better than 711’s.
