That the delivery man was dumb enough to keep the packages at his own house. Jk???
I tried to play the video but all that happens is a rotating circle appears and stays there for eons.
There is a concert that we want to go to. I had 3 different presale codes and was on there the very second they went on sale. My best available was crap seats. 20 minutes later I see tickets on craigslist that were basically the section I was looking for. How is it possible that these people get the tickets so quickly? Do they have connections inside somewhere that release the tickets to them even before the presale?
Bots buy up lots of them for brokers, and I also believe ticketmaster and other outlets themselves are involved in diverting good seats to secondary market.
Otherwise I suggest going thru a casino hotel's concierge.

I dont like they don't mention the name of the company. They say "local delivery company" and that's it. It's probably UPS or FedEx, but they don't say so. The media does this, sometimes even changes the facts to not tarnish brands in their reporting. A few years ago, an incident on an airplane, think someone was kicking the back of the seat, then the person threw Sprite at them. News stories changed Sprite to water.
Definitely some shenanigans going on in the business. I'd agree with the other guy about bots and facades. Those tickets were never available and went straight to the secondary market.Quote: GWAEDoes anyone know how ticket brokers/scalpers work?

But why would ticketmaster do that, I guess unless they somehow get a cut from the brokers or sell them high. Ticketmaster charges crazy fees for buying a ticket so you would think they would prefer 3000 2 ticket orders opposed to 1 person buying 3000.

Do you guys think that it would be a good idea to have a thread for non-political news (God knows we have enough political threads already) that we could call, "General News (Non-Political, Non-Gambling)" or something to that effect?
I think that if someone were to find a non-gambling news story they would like to share, that would be a useful thread to have, and it would separate such things from this, "Miscellaneous Discussion Thread," which would then be largely random musings. I suppose that would make both off-topic threads somewhat topical, in their own ways. This thread seems to kind of catch both, non-gambling news related stuff and seemingly random musings/conversation.
If a few of you guys like the idea, I would be happy to start the thread. This forum certainly allows for some degree of non-gambling discussion, but if we could generally find a nice clean way to mostly limit it to a few long-running threads, that'd be cool, I think.

There already is one. It's called "Diversitytommorow.com" :-)

I know that one of my Amex Platinum benefits is , at least some, if not all, ticket master concerts are available to me a day or more before the general public sales. This might be one way the resellers get a jump on the good seats.

Personally, I found this forum when I was looking for gaming info, and I regret getting swept up in the off-topic political stuff. I'm very opinionated, and the things I believe in more often than not create bad feelings. I have little self-control when I see someone say something that is way different than I think, so I get rude and sarcastic, and people return the favor. I have only myself to blame, nobody put a gun to my head to talk politics. I just wish I had kept my mouth shut and listened to people talking about advantage gambling instead of offering my political views which aren't going to change anyone's mind anyway. It's a free country, misinformed people have a right to not have a clue, especially the young ones, who are generally hopeless. I should have kept my mouth shut. Hindsight.

Also have now dropped 25 pounds. Only a ton left to go.

Also I had a very modest serving of a sugar and cinnamon laden breakfast cereal and slept for six hours afterwards! I just can't seem to avoid sugar. Also there is this glycemic index versus glycemic load stuff.
I indicated off the scale at my most recent weigh-in. So much for fasting diets.

Yeah, it was interesting. It's also interesting to think how many times in your life even if you weren't gambling that you had to weigh risk vs. reward and you probably did it by instinct not using math even you are an AP. i.e. : I'm late, so should I drive 85 mph to get to work on time or go ahead and be late and have my boss think less of me? Or should I eat a delicious one pound t-bone steak even though it might mess with my digestion? Or should I try to talk to and get to know this attractive woman even if she might shoot me down and make me feel bad?

You probably have them using rabbit ears on some old B&W TV?
I think you can get a 15 day free trial or something like that. I'm not sure if they allow the download option with the free trial or not.
The only real reason I got Netflix was because I sent my mom a new tablet and I wanted her to be able to watch some newer movies in the park(there is a park directly across the street from her house). I figured, if me, her and my GF all used it, we would get lots of value(I think you can have up to 5 or 6 users). Each person has their own account section for their saved movies, series, notifications, suggestions that's tailored to them. My GF rarely uses it and my Mom is being difficult, she is set in her ways and has not logged in once. I liked it for diffrent reasons, so I just kept it. It seems to stream even in crappy internet speed conditions.
I really liked the NF original Marco polo series.
If the free trial doesn't work out, give me a text and you can use my password for your trip(sorry, I dont think they have girls drinking Pepsi porn for you). I can make you a section to use.
Are you bringing the brats in tow? If so, they can use it to watch the cartoon section, it seems like there is a ton of cartoon and kids content.
Aw, don't feel bad. Just assume she is a lesbian (like Hillary) if she turns you down. Walk away proud and on to the next one. We have plenty of options as long as we have Internet or wifi. I am trying to figure out options for the flight for the kids. I am going to have my laptop with me so ai can probably use that. Not sure if our flight will have use able outlets and not sure if my laptop will make it 2.5 hours for a movie.

Indeed. When I used to work, I'd take the lower variance route even though it took longer than the lower variance route with much higher variance. It worked out that if I always wanted to be early / on time, I'd habe to leave EARLIER for the theoretically shorter trip, taking account into traffic/variance, is have to leave earlier enough to make sure if there was a bunch of traffic for whatever reason, id still make it to work early.
I was thinking about making a thread about this subject.
RE: Gambling/AP -- Something else I've learned (or maybe it just comes with age) is looking at other people's decisions and not what the actual outcome was. Don't get mad at someone if the choice they made ended up being harmful or (after the fact) "wrong", but look at their choices before hand and see if it was the best of the choices.

It's not free but if you have 400 DVDs your best bet is probably a portable DVD player. You can get one for about $60. Downloading movies even if it's legal takes a ton of memory and it makes your device work very hard. All of the pirate sites that offer downloading that I've tried try to put some virus or spyware on your device. It's just not worth it IMO.
If you get caught, all that happens is you get your internet shut off until you call and promise not to do it again. But if you keep getting caught, it can become worse.
I know from bitter experience that one of the files that they have tagged or whatever is the complete Naked Gun collection.

Let's say you knew you had a huge edge on a progressive slot machine. It's not VP this is just hypothetical. The machine was going to pay out $4 million on its' big hit. All of the other outcomes if you don't include this huge score in your calculation were minus EV. But not a big enough minus EV to dramatically effect the huge plus EV when considering the big hit possibility. And it's a pretty small minus EV, so in playing for 20 hours you are not likely to lose much if you don't hit the big one but of course there is very high variance. And you knew that there were 3 million possible outcomes of a spin. How do you decide, in this situation, or in a similar one that might be more realistic, if it's worth your time to work this machine? Oh, and I forgot: To get the big hit you had to play one dollar each spin.

Without getting into too much detail.....
First of all, determine my advantage (%), my hourly ($$$/hour), and how long the cycle is as well as how long I or team expect to be on the machine.
Figure out if there's "anything else" with the game or scenario I'd want to know about first. IE: What happens if I hit for a $4M taxable? Do I get taxed at 75% or something crazy like that. If the game is messed up (ie: it should be a $4k payout, not $4m) how likely am I to get paid the $4m? If it's a very long cycle, is the casino gonna get weirded out or figure out what I or team am doing if we are on the machine 24/7 for 2 weeks straight?
What kind of a bankroll do I need for this game?
Assuming nothing "out of the ordinary" happens, how likely am I to be ahead once I finish playing it? How do different possible outcomes look for the entire play? This requires simulation/math (most of the time).
Then look at everything as a whole and see if it's worth my time/money/energy/etc. to go play it. Or perhaps it's too risky or not worth enough per hour to play it.
If it took 3 million spins (on average) to hit for $4 million, and I was losing 10% between "the big hit", that means I'd have to coin in $3M with a 10% loss for an expected loss of $300,000 in order to hit for $4M, for a net profit of $3.7 million. At 1000 spins/hour, it should take about 4 months of continuous play. If I run 2 cycles (instead of expected 1 cycle), that's a $600,000 investment for a $3.4 million net profit, over 8 months. 3 cycles is $900K investment for $3.1M profit, over about 1 year.
If my math is right, you have about a 36% chance of NOT hitting "the big winner" at or before 3,000,000 spins. 5 million spins is about 18%. 6 million is 13.53%. 10 million is 3.5% chance. (ie: I'd have a 3.5% chance of NOT hitting the big payout at 10M spins.)

Those are some pretty impressive calculations you made. But just one thing. It's a progressive machine. I should have said, several identical machines are linked together which is what caused the huge jackpot; it didn't come from just one machine. So, as far as I can tell you did not calculate the probability that someone else would hit the huge jackpot before you did. And I would guess that that is something that is not possible to calculate. So ignoring this example, in any progressive machine in which many identical machines are linked together to produce the size of the jackpot how do you account for the possibility that someone else will hit it before you? Answer only if you feel like it. If it's too much work let it go. I just thought about this and so once someone else hits the jackpot the jackpot goes way down and you stop playing. So on any given spin where the jackpot is still available then your calculations are correct. Other people playing at the same time as you did not reduce your chances of hitting the jackpot. But, it reduced your chances of playing for a very long time and therefore it caused your variance to increase dramatically. I think.
