You guys are making me realize how wonderful my life is.

My ex-girlfriends are damn hot too.

I would post some pics bur that would be doxxing as mine are real

My ex-girlfriends were never as hot as these pictures y'all have been posting. I'm not afraid to admit it. These girls wouldn't touch me with a ten-foot pole. That's why I asked how rich I'd have to be... haha...

The real question to ask is how poor does the girl have to be.

Sexy and poor means accepting of a smaller bankroll.

But not all hot women are just dating for money. I have dated a few that were just into me.

But you cant be broke either. You have to be able to afford something

As with all situations there are exceptions

Personally I wouldn't want to date a woman while broke. Too embarrassed to suggest every date be a walk in the park.

If you already are dating someone or married and finances go bust a good woman will stay by your side

But first meeting a hottie broke is extremely difficult

I agree. I dated while broke and it was a disaster. No job and $70 in my bank account. Oh, yeah, what a catch I was.

Not worth a new thread?

I wrote a check to a colleague last November for $XXXX. He cashed it in December. A few days ago I go check my online summary and it seems like the exact same check was cashed again. I call my bank and ask how check #123 was cashed both in December and June? The answer shocked me. She said the "check number" is not a legal part of the check but rather is there as a convenience to the customers. I asked her how many times could THE SAME check be presented for payment and she said "no limit"?!?!?!!!! Nowadays when sometimes things are just scanned I guess this could happen.
My colleague told me he must have accidentally cashed it a second time when he picked up a pile of checks. Did my bank make an error paying the same check twice? Or is the only error my friend's for presenting it a second time?

there are some skits on youtube that show golddiggers changing their behavior when they are lead to believe a guy is rich.
Also a skit where a man is simply riding the subway and reading a book while a confederate furtively films females sitting across the aisle and admiring his artificially enhanced equipment.

If he deposited the actual check then it should have been cancelled. If he did it electronically a second time then it could go through but it iis definitely theft/fraud.

About 3 months ago I did an online deposit through banks app. It didnt seem to go through so I went to the atm and deposited it. I got an email about an hour later that the online one was approved. Bank teller called me the next morning and asked me if I meant to deposit it twice because their system stopped it saying it was a duplicate. It appeared that she would have put it through a second time if I said no.

When I do online payment to elextric company it makes me put a check number. I used a number that I thought was available but my wife already used that number. Both payments were paid and my online banking shows both payments with the same check number.

They said I could deny the second payment similar to the way you can deny a charge on your credit card account. They would start an "investigation". The lady said in this case the cleanest way to handle this would be for my colleague to write me a check and just have me deposit it.

How did he get the check back to cash it a second time?

And can't they just look at the check images to see that two of them are identical? Whenever I write a check a picture of it shows up in my online bank thing.

This investigation seems like it should be open and shut in five minutes.

More importantly, why didn't your colleague IMMEDIATELY pay you back once he realized the mistake?

I would guess that if it's shy of a couple Benjamins just like a C.C. card they would have no problem with restitution even if they couldn't recover the funds as long as it wasn't something that happened a lot with your account. a couple of Benjamins is nothing to them

but if it was 3 or 4K they're going to dig in and get the cops involved

that would be my guess

Yeah, either the bank should store a deposited check, or it's returned to to account holder. So my question as well is, how did the payee get the check back, cancelled or not? The only checks returned to the payee are those that are NSF in the first place.

Story sounded waaayyy too familiar to me. Last August I made a post right here about a series of screw ups when I purchased a new car. One of them was the dealer e-processing my $23,500 check twice. Not six months apart, but twice in the same day. I'm still not sure whether the idiot in that transaction was me or the entire crew at the dealership. At least the car is running fine.

Curiosity question as the forums' wide swath of experience far eclipses mine...

Low info post for brevity's sake, after working for years at a schedule in excess of contract (contract 5 days a week, actual 6-7) and being paid 1.5 time for excess, I've found that due to my absence, all those who are now in that same state are being paid 2 - 3 times pay. I literally did this for 5 years straight. Time and a half. As soon as I'm gone and they have to stick it to someone else, they get paid twice and a half.

Just thought I'd ask what my options are before I address it my way.

Federal: We got 1.5x for excess of 40 hours/week. If on a Holiday, actual or in lieu of, 2x. Actual Sunday, x.25 Night differential stacked on .1x 6pm to 6am. No other stacking - you got the largest of the rates that applied. This was in federal law, part of Title 5.

(I found this out the hard way early on- worked a Sunday Christmas overtime in year 2, thought I got it stacked 1.25x + 2x + 1.5x...nope. 2x. But a thoughtful supervisor coded my Christmas in-lieu-of as the OT day instead, so I did get the 1.5x elsewhere that pay period.
Think he was bing nice because I stood in for someone with kids. ).

So I'm pretty surprised the USPS is finding a way to code someone in excess of 2x base. But I don't know their/your contract terms these days. And you're quasi-corporation, so rules/laws may be different for you because of that.

What did the others get paid before the company brought in cheap [scab] help? Had you not showed up and willingly did the work that they were accustomed to being paid double or even triple time for, would those workers have been able to pocket some premium pay? Maybe it's not them maybe it's you.

Did you cut their throats?

I'm just putting it out there as an alternative thought, don't go getting all hockey stick on me.

You and me both. I've never worked for anyone who kept employees in the dark as much as MY OFFICE (not necessarily all of USPS). Alls I know is I have went to the union myriad times and after four years of fighting just now finally got my contractually obligated 5 day schedule. These folks went to the union first day I was gone and immediately got their 2 - 2.5 pay for every single day they worked in excess.

The "others" are just like me, full time employees with their own designated route. The wonky pay comes because contract states they are not to work another route. Since my (former) boss was the embodiment of colon cancer, we HAVE TO work others' routes because there are more routes than people.

I just don't see how I was forced to do this for 4+years at 1.5 pay, but the instant it's someone else they get 2 - 2.5.

And, f#$% no I did not show up willingly! Who you think you're talking to here? lol But I did show up. 100% of the time. On time, every time.

Equal pay for equal work, and all that. I looked at a usps labor contract once and it was amazing in it's scope of what is covered and the detail.

My labor contract says lineman will do, "duties as assigned". Pretty broad. But we were never known for being the sharpest tools in the shed. Hopefully someone you or those getting 2.5 files grievances and you get a back check for all hours worked at premium.

The reason that overtime pay for over 40 hours ever came about was as a punishment to the employer, for not being able to schedule his work. Working 8 hours per day, is working 1/3 of your life [m-f]. That sounds like plenty for a serf to collect his daily bread. imo If the employer needs more production, hire more employees don't punish the ones he has and use them up.

Be careful expressing that you know what others are making. In most corporations that is grounds for termination of both people. Not sure how the government views that issue

Is the person filling in a USPS employee or outside contractor?

My dad worked in the steel mill all his life. His union contract at one point is exactly what you are describing. Over time for him was 1.5, except Sunday which was 2.5. If you had to fill in for someone then you got base pay plus 1x (total 2x) if you were on overtime it was 2.5. However it was eliminated on one of the contracts.

Is the person filling in a USPS employee or outside contractor?

They're my COWORKERS. There is zero difference in our situations other than seniority, but we're at the point seniority's immaterial because EVERYONE is getting pulled in. Otherwise, our policies are exactly the same. Hence my... disagreement.

Hopefully someone you or those getting 2.5 files grievances and you get a back check for all hours worked at premium.

Back of the envelope math tells me it's enough to buy a house. Cash. And THIS is why we discuss salary.

That is the way I was taught in my early days in the brotherhood. Be glad to show your pay stub to your coworkers, so they can see all is fair. As it should be.

We also played checkpool poker using the cents and the last three numbers of the check for the poker hand. Old days the winner would buy the first round at the lineman's bar. Ten bucks per player, biggest one I was ever in had 86 guys playing. Wouldn't you know that would be the one, that I one. Lost my ass buying that round. lol

Sounds like you fit in well with the mindset of a government drone.😀

a lot of those government drones retire early with a 4k pension per month
then they get another $1500 from S.S.

mostly tax free - Feds anyway - not state (most) - I'm pretty sure

not too shabby - by that time the house is paid for - summertime and the livin' is easy - a lot of 'em buy boats and sail on the ocean

I don't think AP BJ gets a guy a large pension....................😃

If you mean do the bare minimum as poorly as possible, aka the Office Space model, then no. I've still a ways to fall to be properly .gov. But also yes, I am trying my best to get there. Have faith. I'll be a slug soon enough.

ETA, union jobs and federal jobs may make some of my points invalid. Their may be laws regarding pay and they may be breaking them, I have no idea.

Remember my opinions come from a company owner and not and employee so they may not align with yours. My opinion is, why does it matter what others make? If you were willing to work for 1.5 then why should it matter that others are working doe 2.5? Sounds like you should have negotiated a better pay rate, no?

Also when you are working you are adding to the employee pool. When you are not there they are short a person so their supply is lowered which is making demand higher. Maybe they need to pay more to entice people to fill in? These are reasons why it doesnt matter what others in a company make.
Expect the worst and you will never be disappointed. I AM NOT PART OF GWAE RADIO SHOW

when you used the words "government drone" is sounded like a put down - like you were saying that their lives are miserable

I was just pointing out that for some of them it has worked out great

I don't know how common this is. However, as a retired teacher, I'm pretty sure my mom doesn't get SS, because she gets a gov. pension instead.

She could collect SS while still working, but not once she retired.

the pension I was referring to is no longer available for Federal Civil Servants - it was very generous and it has been converted to something less generous - so the ones benefiting from the old pension system are now retired

for State and County workers it's all over the map

they used to allow Federal workers to take early retirement at 55 and they then worked privately which also got the S.S. - what you're referring to that your mom has I've never heard about before - I've never heard of a person not being able to collect S.S. once they retired

I worked for the Feds very briefly. IIRC they offered you the opportunity to also have S.S. taken out of your check - so that would add to your entitlement

I live in the DC area so there are lots and lots of retirees here getting very generous payouts from their Federal pension

Not at all tax free (federal). My federal pension, that is. I paid in, plus a premium because I was forced out by my 56th birthday. Also paid SS wages anf Medicare, full rate. And federal and state taxes. And retirement savings plan. And union dues. And other crap. I was making a great salary, but my take-home was less than 40% of gross. But that was how I retired at 50, too.

So now, I pay taxes on my federal pension, and SS supplement, at full rates. I would pay full state, too, except FL doesn't have state income tax. Pay full tax on my retirement savings when withdrawn, too.

My retirement savings were tax-deferred, not tax-free. That's the only break I got. But living somewhat small then lets me live nicely now. So no complaint here.

It's at least in part, the fault of the Postal Union if you're not getting paid the same as others for that same route. They are required to represent you in such a matter, and have exclusive rights of redress. I can't imagine how they let such inequity go on.

If they don't take care of you, you can also sue them DFR violations. (Duty of Fair Representation).

But your main issue is likely with USPS mgmt.

He doesn't have the right to negotiate wages as an individual. Whether he's a dues-member or not, the Postal Union is the sole representative for wages, leave, and discipline in the workplace.

It is POSSIBLE that Face is on some B-scale wage schedule I don't know about, and those others are somehow grandfathered on their rates. But doubtful, and that's the only way it might have been done. There are only classes of employees, by job description and seniority, not individuals.

Under Reagan in 1986, all feds were changed from CSRS (civil service retirement system) to FERS ( Fed employees rs) involuntarily. The hires were backdated to April 1, 1984 in the forceover. I was caught in that crack - hired under CSRS, backdated into FERS.

At my rates, it was a huge screwjob. At clerical rates, it was a little better for them. The point of throwing about 500k employees into FERS all at once was to bolster SS - most of my pension payments to that point got shoved into SS. And all future payments for the next 25 years as well.

But CSRS was really nice. They don't collect SS, though, unless they had 40 quarters outside govt service.

I do get SS. But I also max-paid it for 23 years, and put in another 70 quarters, before I started withdrawing. So I'm good with getting it early.

people without a pension who have resources can buy one from an insurance company - a single premium lifetime annuity - it's basically the same thing

it's very conservative - the payouts aren't generous - but as the saying goes - the worst thing that can happen is that you outlive your money

it doesn't have a Federal guarantee - but these giant insurance companies are very unlikely to default - I don't think it's ever happened - or if it did the State or Feds bailed them out

generally, the way it works is you get a great deal if you have a very long life
and a poor deal if you expire soon after the contract - but if you got a poor deal you don't care - because you're dead............. 😃

all kinds of deals with these things - like if you sacrifice $35 bucks a month you guarantee your heirs will get back at least 75% of your original investment - all kinds of stuff like that

lots of these complex annuities are considered by experts to be terrible deals - but the lifetime annuity is generally considered to be one of the better ones

Annuities are of two types: bad and worse.
Payments are always partly income and partly return of principal.

My wife worked for a county school system that did not participate in Social Security. Even with her prior employment, she did not have enough quarters of service credit under SS to draw retirement benefits from the feds. She has small pensions from both the state and that county.

Because she is married to an individual who is collecting Social Security retirement benefits, she (theoretically) became eligible for spousal pension benefits in 2008. However, the amount of benefit for which she is eligible must be offset by 2/3 of the amount of pension benefits that she draws from work not covered by SS. It has always been a rather low net spousal benefit, and it has been $0 since about 2012 or 2013.
