Quote: lilredroosterhave had lower back pain for years - was putting stuff like Icy Hot on it
it works but it's temporary - it lasts about 3 minutes
I stopped buying the stuff - it's expensive - one brand is not better than the other
started just rubbing very hot water on my back - it works about the same
After fie years of suffering bad back pain just this weak my insurance company approved me for back surgery. I am excited. They have spent a lot more money on me over the five years than they would have if they approved the surgery five years ago.

Knowing your diet, they gambled you wouldn't last the full five years.

That is probably true and a good bet on their side that happened to lose.
I have had 22 surgeries in my life and this may be the first one that I am looking forward to.

DRich's diet probably has some preservation benefits. I have an aunt that's been dying for the past 40 years. She has been treated for every ailment known to man. I don't think she has ever ate a vegetable. She has preserved herself thru "pickling" (smoking and copious amounts of liquor). I think she might outlast her younger sister.

Is she married? I might trade in my wife for her. She sounds like the perfect spouse for me.

I just sat down really fast, and ive hurt every single day since. That was 2,414 days ago. 2,500 more to go until they'll even consider surgery. Kinda makes one wanna ditch the "mg" for the "mm".
I'd not mind a report from those getting a backeotomy. Rare indeed one gets to glimpse his own future, and id thank you for the opportunity.

"Spinal fusion is successful up to 80 percent of the time, and surgery on your disks will eliminate pain and sciatica in 70 percent of cases, according to the Johns Hopkins report."
"Even if everything goes according to plan, the recovery process can be grueling, especially for patients who undergo spinal fusion."

I opted for chiropractic treatments three or four times a week for a few weeks and all my pain disappeared. One or two treatments a week, will not do the trick.
Also. Stay away from heat. Heat only brings more fluid into the area to swell it and make things worse.
Cut way back on the carbs. They cause inflammation as well as water retention and swelling.
Use solid ice. Just at the sports teams do. Those guys take ice baths. Don’t use those ice packs you get in the drug store. Solid ice for 20-30 min intervals a few times a day. Fill a hot water bottle or two with water and freeze it. Or fill plastic water bottles with water and freeze them.

Just imagine how much longer he could have lived if he had actually taken care of himself. Probably could have broken 100 easily, and been in been in pretty good health at that. Sounds like he had some good DNA in him.

They're still technically publishing it, but it's all going to be reprinted material now and only sold in comic shops.
I'm fine with this; I have a subscription, but it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. I think the 70's and 80's was probably the golden age for MAD. I just wonder if they're only going to reprint newer stuff or if everything from the last 67 years is up for grabs.

Good. Not the death threats, of course, but good that she quit. A little girl is being bullied and threatened because her dad is using her as a political prop. He should be ashamed of himself. He even admits his daughter had no idea who AOC was. It's not even really an "impression," anyway. She's just putting on glasses and talking like an idiot. ("Oh, you mean just like the REAL AOC? Hurka durka durka....." because I know that's coming.)

Fwiw. Debilitating pain in early May, lasted but tapered off over several weeks. Problems every year or two for almost 40 years from several causes.
I've gone through some prelims the last couple months. MRI, xray, 2 exams by concurring spinal specialists. I have moderate to severe degeneration in 2 discs, some damage to 3 others, moderate arthritis (scarring), scoliosis, and my lumbar and tailbone is turned the wrong way (inward, not flared). They have me in PT 2x a week, massage 1x a week, for the Indefinite future, issued a muscle relaxant and prescription level NSAID for the pain, and are recommending nerve killing 4x as the next step.
However, the nerve procedures are out of network (doctors are in-network, but the facility is not), so they want a bit more than 7k in advance to do it. Ugh. Especially since that solves exactly zero of the underlying problems. So I'm doing the PT and massage for now, and it seems to be helping.
If I get the nerve kills, and the problems continue, they will re-evaluate the usefulness of actual surgery. Who knows what that would cost, but if it's only 70% effective, I'm not sure it's worth it.
Good luck to you whatever paths the quacks and bean counters suggest to you. NSAIDS are not as benign as is assumed and nerve severing seems final.Quote: beachbumbabsFwiw. I've heard that back problems are one of the most common human ailments because we still haven't worked out the kinks of walking upright from when we evolved hundreds of thousands of years ago.
Or something crazy like that.
Upright walking is also the reason our babies are born dumb and helpless, unlike every other primate. The upright posture did something to women's hips and birth canal causing babies to be born completely differently.
Quote: billryanJack in the Box shakes come in three sizes. Small, Medium and Large. On their app, they have a promo for a free shake. It says free regular size shape. Order and find out that while Large is twice as big as Small, Small is larger than regular. Rather than simply give away small shakes, they brought an entirely new cup into the equation, just to save two ounces.
Very smart. I think without knowing the number of ounces most people would rather order a regular than a small. I think most pizza places have removed the "small" pizza.

What a great link. I grew up with Mad but have not read one in years. I will now. Thank you!
Uncommon but possible. My sister is a doctor and when I told her where the fracture was she corrected me because it’s so rare. She was then fascinated when I in fact had the extra vertebrae.

Me too.
Those were some of the best Simpsons jokes for me too. I think the writers were probably about my age.
This was me to a T. I was in second and third grade when Mad was constantly roasting Spiro Agnew. I had no idea who he was,, as he'd resigned 3 years before I was born. I couldn't have pronounced his name. He was just "that guy they always make fun of."
just finished watching an episode - an colony of old hippies moved into South Park - and the South Park boys don't like them - they want to get rid of those hippies
so they get a truck and some giant speakers and boom out Death Metal music because:

Wow, 10% of the population has it and I had never heard of it.
That was a heck of severe reaction to a vaccine, almost 8 months of constant care, and as I'd mentioned prior, two months of being intubated. Wow, life can change in an instant.

Quote: petroglyphTWIMC. I posted last Nov. that my sister was in intensive care for 6 weeks due to a Yellow Fever vaccine. Then she moved to regular care, then 3 months ago to 24/7 offsite adult care. She was released to return home on 6/21. Although she still has to tube feed, she can at least be at home.

I’m glad to hear she is home. Is there any pre-screening that can prevent cases like your sister’s? I know they ask about egg allergies for other vaccines, but I never had to get a shot for yellow fever.

Now, it may just have been the animal tranqs or possibly the worm that did it, but some twenty minutes later, I had just experienced the finest two hour concert I've seen in years.
In all seriousness, I can't think of a more fun concert I have ever attended. From the opening strains of Crazy Train to an "Acapulco" version of Sweet Child of Mine, the brothers from Juarez display amazing talent, perfectly blending traditional mariachi with heavy metal riffs, superior musicianship, and impeccable comedic timing. That their violin playing sister seemingly paints her pants on simply adds to the mystique.
They do a weird riff on Bohemian Rhapsody. Sort of Pentatonix meets The Road Warriors.
It shouldn't work, and yet it does.
Metalchi plays small clubs, festivals and colleges throughout the South West. Catch them before someone bottles their magic.

Yeah, a boatload of my ATC friends have shown up with brain cancer and other cancers in our 40s 50s 60s. Way beyond the actuarial norms. I'm guessing cuddling our CRT radar scopes for 20-30 years will turn out to have been a really bad idea. Just lost another one to glioblastoma last month.
The good news is that most of the CRT screens got retired, but there are still several hundred in use around the country. Budgets have made it tough to replace them altogether, so it's been a waterfall project. I think the first ones got installed around 1998 or so.
