how long does it take you to drink a 64 oz big gulp of coke?Quote: GWAEYesterday was the first day at my new office. I can now walk to work. Took me 8 minutes to walk. I say about 1/3 mile. Not much exercise but gotta be way better for me than the nothing that I was doing before.

Well I just drank a 16oz bottle of water in 20 sec.
I used to be able to quaff a beer in under 4 seconds. iircQuote: GWAEWell I just drank a 16oz bottle of water in 20 sec.
12 oz.
Congrats, btw.

You must have the same ability that I do. Not everyone can do that. I can basically just pour the bottle down my throat.

Back in the day, my friends and I would race. lolQuote: GWAEYou must have the same ability that I do. Not everyone can do that. I can basically just pour the bottle down my throat.
Anyone else remember when beer came in tin cans instead of aluminum, and you could "shoot" beers?

What a long commute.
I walk upstairs to my home office.
My whole company, which is huge, thousands of employees, went totally virtual. Everybody works from home. Its the future workplace. More and more common.

When we started this company we talked about doing that. I decided that I would prefer to spend 3k a month on expenses for an office instead of everyone working from home. I do think we will move that direction as we grow though.
One interesting fact about the English court is that, the more intimate you were with the king, the higher your status. The very tip top of the hierarchy of courtiers was the guy who handed the king TP when he was taking a dump. (he had other duties too).
In another time and place, not THAT far removed from our own, being a bathroom attendant made you a real big shot.

Just because he is dead, doesn't mean you're not related to him.Quote: rxwineI haven't had a jury duty summons in years. Last time I had the question on whether I was related to a law enforcement officer and I was and answered yes, but this time, he is no longer living.

"No." you are not "related" to him: he's dead, gone, and completely off the board.
I'm headed down to Primm tonite for a concert. Synchronicity.

So I' m no longer related to my parents since they died?
I would ask for clarification..
But, it is my understanding that for each of them the conditions of their law enforcement work always came with some kind of fussy "no compensation without respiration" type thing somewhere in the fine print of taking their positions doing those jobs. So since you asked for opinions, then if I was in your shoes I'd say no* (pending any resurrection and subsequent undead reemployment in that field). When they are eventually buried, it will be eternally as parents and grandparents and cousins and sailboarders and whatnot, but only former not current law enforcing officials. But hey, if this is Clark County, Nevada we're talking about (not where any of my relatives have ever worked) then there's plenty of precedent for zombie position folk continuing indefinitely in a local government job while no longer actually existing anywhere in the known physical universe & not actually breathing air & moving about like a living critter... so IMO maybe make that C.Y.A. asterisk a little bigger in the case of any "Vegas baby" stuff.

Yes, but deceased, is how I'd answer it. I'd add not from line of duty if that's true.
But I think you could also answer "no" honestly. Unless the LEO was killed in the line, it's no longer pertinent.
What are the odds of getting a specific hand in poker using both hole cards in Holden poker?
Like right now you have to get Aces full of nines, suits dont matter. Also assuming it goes to the river, so it's out of 7 cards

Quote:A Florida couple seemed to master the “room and dash” tactic when they racked up a hotel bill in excess of $10,000 before bolting without paying, police said.
Ashley and Lee Roe were arrested Saturday after they avoided paying large hotel bills accumulated over three months, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
The Roes stayed at the Hampton Inn in Key Largo from Oct. 20 to Dec. 11 on five separate occasions, each time checking out without paying the bills. The hotel manager told police the couple initially didn’t provide a credit card because they'd check in to their room through the hotel’s reward program.
I find it hard to believe these people scammed the same place five different times. It doesn't make sense. They probably assumed the card was on file.
That's the ticket.
Since degrees are a made-up, useless unit, I have decided that my daughter will be learning angles in radians from the start, the proper unit. It gets a little cumbersome when playing with Duplos...."See if you turn this block π/2 radians, it fits better!" But I'm confident this is a good long term choice.

Probably best to just teach her both degrees and radians from the start. Your daughter is going to learn degrees first in school and later on radians (I think?).
BTW, your post confused the hell out of me because I thought you meant a degree as in a bachelors, masters, doctorates degree....and was like how the hell does that apply to angles and radians....
Speaking of which, anyone heard from TwoFeathersATL? He hasn't been on the forum in almost a year and posted in 2 years. :(

I sent him a PM a while back and no response. Someone on here (it might have been BBB) said they talked to him a long while ago and said he was fine I believe.
I think that is like teaching her metric Système Internationale units instead of imperial US Customary units. Yes, SI units are much more intuitive and easier to work with, but I think it will just confuse her because her fellow students (and most likely teachers) will not know what she is talking about. (Assuming you live in the US, and US schools still teach US Customary units of measurement)Quote: AcesAndEightsHopfeully the math geeks will support me in this.

I agree with RS above -- teach her both.
Out of curiosity, has anyone ever used gradians (π radians = 200 gradians)? I never have. My first calculator had a "grad" button, but my latest one doesn't.

Yeah, it was me. And it's been a year or better since I heard from him, too. I sent him a PM before Christmas, just checking in. It wasn't opened.
If anybody is playing the Harrah's in NC, maybe ask around for a med - high roller sometime answers to 2feathers. Think he played mostly BJ.

Say what you will about the metric system. But it is certainly not intuitive.
Imperial is based on some intellectual fascist declaring arbitrarily that everything should be measured in units of the circumference of the earth. (Very intuitive!)
Imperial evolved over time and is based on intuitive things like the size of our own body relative to the outside world.
It ain't intuitive for people to be 1.73 units tall. I'd wager that no society ever came up with a unit as impractical as the meter on their own, as applied to things like height, doorways, etc.
The whole objective of the metric system is to put soulless uniformity over intuitive and convenient usage.
That's why metric works so badly with language. E.g. in a saying or a movie or book title.
"Try walking a deci hectra miltigon in something elses shoes."
"My favorite movie is The Green 1.87965 kilo multi balls."
It's really sad that so much of the world uses such a dumb system, for day to day purposes.

He had said before that people know him somehow by 2feathers, or I wouldn't have suggested it. But who knows? Maybe he left the SouthEast. Any number of things could have happened, but they had school age kids, so hopefully nothing bad.

Funny you should mention that, one of my early calculators had a gradians mode as well. I never had any idea what it was, but learned very recently (while talking about this topic) what they are. Better than degrees IMO, too bad they never caught on.

Did it turn kids off from math or did it inspire some?

I should have been all in but I had a weird feeling. 6am, I am back to even, well actually +$4. I made a joke that I am up less than $1 an hour, when I get to $1 an hour I am leaving. Literally the very next hand I get AA on the button. MP raises to $15, next guy raises to $55, I raise to $125, MP calls, next guy goes all in with about $500, I call with $300, MP all in for less. we all flip over cards. It is AA vs KK vs JJ.
