Rosenthal, father of casino sportsbooks, said that most people bet too many games. He would bet just 1-2 games a week most weeks. Everything I have seen confirms this.

Well, I am now 1-7 on my confidence picks and I am 1-4 this week pending MNF and plummeting towards last place. Obviously, I lost half my brain cells since becoming moderator. (Just joking!)
I'm at the point where I'm not working very hard on my picks. Maybe the absence of a thought process may reverse the course I'm on.

I can confirm that Mission146 did indeed reach out to me and say he is skipping this week intentionally. He thinks that the matchups, injuries and lines make this week way too weird and only likes the Raiders laying three and the Steelers game to go OVER...but he doesn't even have Confidence in either of those.
He also points out that the Buccaneers are off, so by not making Picks, he can also have a bye week.
Third-person just for the lulz, positive variance to everyone this weekend! I have a lot to get done, so no real time to have one eye on games or scores all day.

It was certainly an interesting day.
The Bills, a 14.5 favorite over the Jaguars, lost outright.
The Cowboys, a 10 point favorite over the Broncos, lost outright.
The Rams, a 7.5 favorite over the Titans, lost outright.
The Saints, a 6.5 favorite over the Falcons, lost outright.
The Bengals, a 2.5 favorite over the Browns, lost outright.
The 49ers, a 1.5 favorite over the Cardinals, lost outright.
What's even more surprisingly is nearly all of these favorites were playing at home. (The Bills/Jags game is the only exception. The Bills lost but they were playing away.)

Don’t forget the Raiders (the only spread that I liked) also lost outright. So, I’d be 0-1 on the two Picks I said I would have liked at all. I guess we’ll see if tonight’s game goes over.

I lost 3 points on the Bills Jaguar game.
My confidence pick was the Bills -14.5 and they failed to cover ATS by 18 points!
I also picked the Bills Over 48.5, and that failed to cover by 40 points!
Not only am I in last place, I am royally stinking up the contest.

I think Mr Highest Variance would be a fun prize. Whoever’s weekly picks at year end have the highest standard deviation from his average. So 18 data point standard deviation formula.

Despite an impressive 4-2 record this week, JohnZimbo drops to Second Place.

Hoo Hah! My 5-1 record this week only moved me up from 19th to 18th place, but its a tremendous weight off my shoulders. I'm only picking for my pride now, but I'm hoping this is the start of some more favorable variance. Or, is that hope just a textbook case of Gambler's Fallacy?

It's because when Mission posted your picks for week 4, he posted them like this:

Anyway, notice no lines are included with the games. All other picks, for everyone, includes the mascot name and the line. The little macro I wrote earlier, to produce that pick breakdown, was written to look at the lines to determine if a favorite was picked or if a dog was picked. Obviously, there were no lines for this lone entry, and so these games weren't added to your breakdown at all.
