1. Medal Count Albarado 20-1
2. California Chrome Espinoza 3-5
3. Matterhorn Bravo 30-1
4. Commanding Curve Bridgmohan 15-1
5. Ride On Curlin Velazquez 12-1
6. Matuszak Smith 30-1
7. Samraat Ortiz 20-1
8. Commissioner Castellano 20-1
9. Wicked Strong Maragh 6-1
10. General a Rod Napravnik 20-1
11. Tonalist Rosario 8-1
3-5 a bit short for me but seeing the opposition, I really hope he does it. I think we need a hero and he fits the bill nicely.
I'll be rooting for Chrome.
I'm in two contests that day and Chrome and Strong are not really playable. So I'll use Medal Count in the one that locks picks and Tonalist if I have a chance to cash in the other one.
Quote: onenickelmiracleIf I bet tonalist win place and show, will I win anything overall if he comes in second or third?
Second, yes. Third, no.
I'm going to box Commanding Curve and Wicked strong for the exacta. Might make a show bet with Medal Count.
Quote: onenickelmiracleIf I bet tonalist win place and show, will I win anything overall(net)if he comes in second or third?
If Chrome finishes out of the money you might make money if Tonalist shows...
I'd love to see a Triple Crown Winner after all these years and I'll definitely be watching the race. Maybe I'll even place a few bets.
$3 Sup 2-5-9-4. $1 Sup 2-5,9-5,4,9-5,4,9,10.
Just in case $1 Tri 2,5-2,5-4,9. $1 Sup 2,5-2,5-4,9-4,9,10. Total @$60.
$140 Place on CC.
Total investment $200. Out of my return of @$410 so far on Derby run.
Final selection tomorrow morning about 10am EST.
Track Condition: Fast
Weather: SUNNY 26C/78F

I like that bet. Was that made online or at a sportsbook in Vegas?
My official pick is Wicked Strong.

I like that bet. Only 1/3 of the favorites win in the Belmont.

Considering there are 10 horses in the race that seems like a solid bet although I hate any bet where I win less than the amount I wagered.
In this case I really want CC to win just for the fun of seeing a Triple Crown Winner. I don't remember seeing the last one. I was 19 at the time and don't remember watching the races on TV. Maybe I did and just don't remember.

That's a little more than $3.30 for a $2 bet. I would be surprised if a $145 bet on CC to win would end up paying $100 or more.
And add me to the "smart bet" list - nobody has any idea what's going to happen to these horses when they reach the eighth pole. My usual policy for the Belmont is, bet on a horse with a jockey who has been riding horses at the track regularly, rather than one brought in just for today. That leaves Ride On Curlin, Samraat, Commissioner, Wicked Strong, and Tonalist (and, to a lesser extent, Matterhorn).
1--$7.60
2--$8.90
3--$22.40
4--$11.70
5--$20.40
6--$20.80

CC's jockey has been there before. Has already ridden a horse attempting to complete the triple crown. Horse stumbled coming out of the gate and didn't make it. You can take that previous attempt either way. Should know how to do it now, or can't finish the deal.

You didn't watch the Belmont that year. It was the kind of performance that can't be forgotten.
I've got it all on the 2 to win. There's a reason this colt is the odds on favorite. I worry bout the 8 (breeding). I'll most likely put something on 8, I hate those "I knew it!", moments.

I like Wizard betting CC NOT to win. So I bet $20 to win on CC. Remember NO Safety !!!!!
4-5 for CC is a good bet.

Quote: JohnzimboI have Commissioner to win and an 8-9 exacta
#1 Medal Count (25-1)
#8 Commissioner (27-1)
Both are well bred for mile+half. I think one of them is going to win.
I bet $50 to win on each.
The jockey just said "he just didn't have it today" and that's how it looked. Having to go wide couldn't have helped.
Quote: PBguyAnother favorite bites the dust in the Belmont.

He also looked like he lightened up considerably from the Preakness.
It just again goes to show, it requires a monster to win the TC.
Quote: onenickelmiracleIf I bet tonalist win place and show, will I win anything overall(net)if he comes in second or third?
I hope you placed that bet!
Quote: ParadigmWell I guess that was one approach to the post race interview by Chrome's owner.......or he could have been classy, congratulated the winner and commented on how hard a feat the TC is to accomplish.
The only problem with the "limit the Preakness and Belmont to horses that qualified for the Derby" idea is, there are some horses who are definitely longer distance specialists; do you disqualify them from the one TC race they have a chance to win because they didn't earn enough points to qualify for the Derby? Only Seattle Slew and Affirmed won TCs since the "points system" started.
Quote: ThatDonGuyThat leaves Ride On Curlin, Samraat, Commissioner, Wicked Strong, and Tonalist
And if you crazy enough to box those into superfectas...you lost everything as Medal Count finished third. (Actually, I had a gut feeling Ride On Curlin was going to steal it.)

Online. You can't get fixed odds here in Vegas since it is para-mutual.
Quote: mickeycrimmAfter the race Steve Coburn blasted the winners calling them cowards for not racing in the Derby and Preakness.
Talk about blowing the good will he had built up with the general public. He came across as a crybaby with that performance.

Sounded somewhat plastered too.
Quote: treetopbuddySteve Coburn is completly full of s***. Where does he get off proposing anything. This fat f**** wants to change the Triple Crown format? What an arrogant pile of horse dung. Nobody is going to listen to the dunce.
The horses that have fallen short in their Triple Crown bids weren't tired, they simply weren't bred to run a mile and a half. Most of the horses that have made a bid are true milers that they are trying to stretch out for big prize. Running less than 4 minutes in thirty five day does not make for a tired horse. It can be argued that horses that haven't run in five plus weeks are not sharp.
If California Chrome gets beat it will not be because he's tired. He'll get beat because he's not bred to get the mile and a half. It doesn't appear that this horse can carry his speed to the finish line at the Big Sandy.....but he keeps surprising.
It appears as if the ill-fated
treetopbuddy saw the Belmont
post race interview coming from
12 furlongs away.
Had CC $400 to win, #8 $50 place and show.

I saw bets in the sportsbook - Will Chrome win the triple crown, so I thought something like that would be allowed. Anyway, betting $100 against a triple crown every year seems like a pretty good bet to make.
Quote:California Chrome sustained a bloody gash to his right front foot during the Belmont Stakes, an injury that may have hurt his chances in his failed bid to sweep the Triple Crown for the first time in 36 years.
We'll never know.
Think someone dropped broken glass in front of his gate?
just place. got greedy with trifectas and struck out thanks to CC. I should have known the horse lady from the track knew enough but straight bets didn't seem sexy enough. other bad luck elsewhere saturday really was the key factor in biffing and being chicken.Quote: PBguyI hope you placed that bet!
Was truly sad for Cc though.

What about the Breeders Cup?
