Introduction

Club Cal Neva is located in downtown Reno.  It takes up a full city block.  It is connected with a second floor bridge and a walkway across an alley.  Club Cal Neva opened on April 2, 1962.  Little has changed on the property since then.

Casino at Club Cal Neva

The casino at Club Cal Neva is two stories.  It is also on separate sides of an alley that splits the property into two sections.  During slow periods, players may be forced to walk over to the other casino to cash in chips.  The upstairs consists of a three-table poker room that spreads three $10 tournaments with rebuys and addons daily.  There is a fourth tournament on weekends.  The main cash games are $1/$2 No Limit Texas Hold’em and 3/6 fixed limit.  Players receive $1 per hour in comps that may be used towards food.

The sportsbook is operated by William Hill.  Players can make deposits for the Nevada sports betting app at Club Cal Neva.  The app works throughout Reno and most of the state.

The west casino floor at Club Cal Neva includes five double deck $5 blackjack tables that do not allow double down after splitting but pay 3-2.  There are two single deck blackjack tables that pay 3-2 and only allow double down on 10 and 11 and not after splitting.  There is a $5 craps table with 3-4-5 times odds that pays triple on 12 on the Field.  There is also a $5 Let it Ride table.

The east casino floor spreads six double deck and three single deck blackjack tables with the same rules.  There are also three $5 Pai Gow Poker tables and a $5 Three Card Poker table.

The best video poker is full pay Jacks or Better.  It is available in $.50 and $1 denominations.  There is also $1 8/5 Bonus Poker.  Players earn one point for every $12 wagered at video poker.  Cash back is $1 per $1,200 wagered.  Players also earn about $1 in comps for every $800 wagered.

Hotel Club Cal Neva

Club Cal Neva sold its hotel in 2015.  It was known as the Nevadan Hotel.  There is no hotel operated by Club Cal Neva at this time.  High volume guests may be able to get comped at neighboring casinos.  Ask a pit boss for information.

Club Cal Neva also sold its parking deck in 2015.  The city of Reno bought the crumbling structure.  Reno will restore it and Club Cal Neva guests will be able to use it once it has been repaired.

Restaurants at Club Cal Neva

Diners at Club Cal Neva have three options.  There is a casino grill that is an old school lunch counter featuring hot dogs and hamburgers.  The Top Deck Restaurant is a typical casino diner.  The Steak and Pasta House is the higher end option.  It is only open Thursday through Sunday.

Environment

Club Cal Neva is a low limit casino.  It is nothing special but it offers decent games for $5 players, including 3-2 single deck.  It also has $5 Pai Gow Poker, which is a great way to kill a day with a few drinks.

My Conclusion

Club Cal Neva is a classic grind joint.  The lack of a hotel or glamorous restaurants makes it pointless for players to give significant action.  If all you are looking for is good $5 table games then there are few places that are better than Club Cal Neva.  The lack of a cage in the west casino during off peak hours is annoying but we can get over it for $5 single deck blackjack and Pai Gow Poker.
