RIP. Such a full life and a lot of positive use of his celebrity.

Alex has passed. Very sad day.

The original "Wizard of Odds" - that was the name of what I think was the first game show he hosted in the USA, on NBC (definitely before High Rollers).

Does anyone know whether they’ve shown his last recorded show yet?

They have not.

Sony Pictures Television, which produces the show, said his last day in the studio was Oct. 29. New episodes hosted by Trebek will air through Dec. 25.

RIP

Not until December 25th. His last taping was October 29.
Edit: Some of us are slow.

I loved High Rollers as a kid. Alex Trebek seemed like a nice person, similar to Bob Barker. Not smarmy like the stereotypical game show host. He was a great asset to televisionland and our pop consciousness.

Son of SOOPOO has made it past the second phase of try outs. He has an interview on Thursday which if he is successful at, will put him on the contestant list. He would be eligible to be called for the next 18 months. I do not think they actually tell him if he ‘passed’ the interview or not.

In other good news for him... On Friday he becomes Dr. Son of SOOPOO, getting his PhD in entomology.

My younger son just got engaged.

People are being vaccinated against COVID-19.

All in all a good week!

Congratulations!!! Please let Son of SOOPOO know too.

As I recall from Barbara, she got "the call" out of the blue one day after being on the "18-month" list for a while.

It's almost that time of year again -- when I crash and burn on the Jeopardy online tryout test. Actually, I'm not sure how close I get, but the test last year really humbled me.

Here are the dates:

March 27 2019, 5:00PM PT
April 9 2019, 5:00PM PT
April 10 2019, 6:00PM PT
April 11 2019, 8:00PM PT

The first step is you have to register. Give them a low-priority Email, as it puts you on their mailing list. As I recall from last year, as the dates get closer they will give you links to take the test. Unfortunately, the tests are pass/fail, and I've always failed. If you pass, I guess they invite you to the next step.

This thread will be a good place to lick our wounds afterward.

In other Jeopardy news, here is a nice Thank you message from Alex.

Oh wow, congrats on the aspirations. Keep trying and I'm sure you will pass. Jeopardy has to be the most difficult game show ever designed. Since there are no bounds to its source material which means all knowledge is valuable :( You seem to have studied the game since Holzhauer's successor I recall correctly. I have no doubt in your ability to play optimal strategy especially since you & I both agreed on Holzhauer making the correct final wager. But how is your pop culture knowledge? I'd be too scared making a fool of myself on tv, all it takes is a couple of bad subjects to take away any advantage from the smartest player :( With a little luck tho you could easily shine ✨

Here is one of my favorite movies growing up. And it's funny because this movie came out way before Watson was ever created. Btw the movie is extremely corny but the evil genius kid gets some laughs out of me everytime ;)
