Quote: NathanONM, at the time the Locked Up Jamaica episode aired,(in 2009) Marijuana was still heavily frowned upon. The Rastafarians use/used it for spiritual practices. A few years ago,(2015) the laws were relaxed a lot and you can have up to 5 Marijuana plants in your house. You can smoke it in your house for therapeutic or spiritual practices. If you have like a big bag of it in your possession and you're walking down the street, the fine is now petty, only $5.
Like a toll?
Pay $5 and keep your weed or pay $5 and they take your weed? If they take your weed, the effective penalty is greater.
I like the new signature. Eventually you can get it down to one sentence!
Quote: mcallister3200You seem to know a lot about marijuana laws in Jamaica Nathan. Have you been eating cookies again, so to speak?.
Google is my Friend. ;)
Clearly a bannable offense. You'd be thinking what Nathan thought if that were true.Quote: FinsRuleIgnorance of the law cannot be an excuse. If you're allowed to use it, then that would be everyone's defense. And then no one could be convicted of anything.

Quote: PokerGrinderI guess. I just don't get why people lump weed in with hard drugs. I haven't smoked weed in many years but I do believe it should be legal. Tax the sh#t out of it!
And in Canada it is legal, or at least will be in mid October.
Quote: NathanThere is a saying that,"Ignorance of the law is no excuse," meaning just because you didn't know what you did was illegal doesn't mean you are exempt from being prosecuted for breaking the law. I completely disagree with this. If I KNEW something was illegal, I wouldn't have done it so I should be acquitted since I honestly thought I was doing something that was okay.
As mentioned already, if you could just say "I didn't know" then that's what everyone would do.
In this day and age there is no excuse for not knowing the laws as it's so easy to find online. Here's a few from Thailand that you might not be aware of unless you do some research:
Quote:Violators of laws related to illicit drugs, e.g., having and holding for use, or being a producer, seller, or transporter are subject to the death sentence.“
In February 2018, Thailand authorities banned littering at 24 of its most popular beaches due to increasing environmental concerns. Litterers will be prosecuted and either fined 100,000 THB (US$3,190) or face a year in jail.
Under Thai law, it's illegal to go out in public if you are not wearing underwear. Although we haven't had any stories of travelers being arrested for this offense, listen to what your mother said and always leave the house wearing a fresh pair of undies.
Under Thai law, it's also illegal to drive a car if you are not wearing a shirt.
Lese Majeste is a law which was introduced in Thailand in 1908 and states that it's a serious offense to defame, insult, threaten or defile any image of the Thai royal family. This also includes defacing Thai money, so don't step on the local currency, Thai baht (THB). It's against the law and could result in imprisonment.
Quote: NathanI have a strong feeling that 41 will be a key number in the Lottery in the next couple of days, be it 41 front pair for Pick 3, Pick 4, or 41 Pick 2. :) 837 showed up today, so I have a major feeling 831 is on its way. In fact, I am in line getting ready to buy 831 now. :)
So, if you think 41 is coming up WHY are you buying 831?? You always tell us advanced betting is best so why don't you play 41 for the week? Maybe you are saving the best numbers for yourself.

Great minds think alike! Shortly after posting and buying 831, my logical brain told me,""Wouldn't 41 have been the better bet since you're so confident 41 is coming up soon?" ;)
Even more ludicrous than Nathan picking numbers, is someone calling her out for her picks.Quote: vegasSo, if you think 41 is coming up WHY are you buying 831?? You always tell us advanced betting is best so why don't you play 41 for the week? Maybe you are saving the best numbers for yourself.
I can only hope this thread takes a strange and wacky twist.
Nathan, we want to hear your thoughts on aliens both terrestrial and domestic.
You can't predict lotto numbers unless you're high and staring cross-eyed at a lava lamp seeing faces.

But it's one heck of a coincidence that 41 showed up in 3 different games within a close timeframe! ;)
are you trying to tell me that you're the former member Miss Cleo? Oh no, she's dead.Quote: NathanAnd what did I tell you guys? The Fantasy 5 Numbers were 4,10, 22,25,32. Pay special attention to the very first two numbers. ;)

Quote: NathanWell, I played $102 in Lottery tickets today(Got a bigger paycheck this paycheck, ;) 831 twice for 1 box for both times for a week, so $28, 41 front pair for Pick 2, 3 days both times at $1, so $6, 41 Pick 2 box, 3 days both times at $1, so $6, 41 front pair Pick 4, 3 days both times at $1, so $6, Lotto EZ Match with Xtra, so $3, Powerball with Xtra , so $3, Lucky Money with EZ Match, so $2, 10 EZ Match Fantasy 5, so $20, Fantasy 5 EZ Match for 15 drawings, so $16, 937 Pick 3 at 3 days both times at $1, so $6, 140 Pick 3, 3 days, at $1 both times, so $6. :) Wish me good luck! :D
I have to say Nathan, that is just too much on lotto tickets, for anyone. Has to be a diminishing return on the entertainment value at a point. I hope you get at least $61 back! Your signature is in one line that’s good, but the odds as they often are ever not in your favor here.
Years ago on another forum there was a discussion on this issue by "Gwen the astrologer."
"Gwen" went on at length about how the position of the stars and the planets can affect a gambler's results.
Quote: MrVNathan, have you ever thought of incorporating astrology into your number picking?

Or a dart board might work.
Darts are for the amateurs.
The cool kids use tarot cards and star charts.
Quote: NathanWell, I played $102 in Lottery tickets today
Considering you can expect to win about half of that back, I hope you're getting $51 in entertainment value from the half you're throwing away.
Step 1. Use a dart board for lottery picks.
Step 2. Get really good at darts.
Step 3. Become a dart hustler to pay for lottery tickets.
Quote: KeeneoneThat is a lot of selections. Where are you filling out all these lottery slips? In store or at home?
In the store. :) My morning drawings lost but I still have 2 and a half days left, advance plays is key. :)
I'm going to have to see the video of that ticket. I'm starting to worry you have sticky fingers, Walgreens can afford it.Quote: NathanI think I'll play 42 Front Pair today for $5, and I played an extra Grouper, $112 altogether.

I ate an excellent Grouper last night. I am sure I got more enjoyment out of it than your lotto playing.

Dissemble no more you Heathen(Playful jib, not an insult, ;) You have already shown us how you "Predict," numbers that happened to win! No longer will I fall for your elaborate ruse! ;)

That's a pretty snobby, condescending remark there.
Nathan should not be mocked for playing lottery games; as a recreational gambler she must play what is available to her, financially.
She knows the odds are against her yet she chooses to play: this is no different than any non-AP recreational casino gambler.
Nathan, just make sure you have enough money left over to take care of your daily expenses as gambling can be addictive.
LOL. right there you see how the urge not to 'miss that one time' can lead you to 'non-buyers' remorse and onwards to addiction.Quote: NathanSo, I contemplated buying 42 Front Pair this morning but knew I ran the risk of coming to work late. So I forgoed it. On my lunch break, I hoped 42 wouldn't come up as the midday drawing. It didn't. I will play it for tonight. :)
By far the best approach to lotteries like this is to not only 'never play' but also to never pay any attention to what numbers are drawn.

Wouldn't you hope it does come up, so you can validate your predictive powers?
Perhaps you were making a lighthearted joke, but did you (or someone you know) actually catch that "Grouper"? If not, there is a good chance you were eating something else.Quote: VCUSkyhawkI ate an excellent Grouper last night. I am sure I got more enjoyment out of it than your lotto playing.

I had a choice to make. Play 42 Front Pair and risk being late to work, or not play it at all and not come to work late. I made the right decision. Skip playing and come to work early. :) I played it for tonight's drawing and 90 came up instead. Drats. I guess I'll play it for tomorrow, both times.
Quote: CrystalMathWouldn't you hope it does come up, so you can validate your predictive powers?
That's happened to me before. I had the filled in 89 slip in my hands, but I had to leave or risk coming to work late. I dropped the slip and went to work. 89 showed up! Drats!
Quote: OnceDearThanks Nathan. I was tempted to ASK you to desist from posting them. They almost certainly contributed to this thread getting down-voted,
This forum, generally tries to encourage thoughtful, math-based wagering and the idea of encouraging any kind of subscription to the lottery, in an of its forms, is just an anathma

Really..........
Back in the mid-seventies my sister and her friends were fans of "The Bay City Rollers."
I remember how one of her friends kept saying "I'm going to marry him one day," referring to a band member.
Time passed and guess what: she moved to LA, met him, married him.
Is that sort of like winning lotto?

I’m sure any good employer would understand. I mean, what if it showed up and you didn’t play it? No one wants a depressed cashier; am I right?
