Miscellaneous discussion indeed.

I skipped over the video a day or two ago, played it today, I had 12.5 minutes.

My conclusion. There is a God.
That God is beyond my conclusionating.

Who said "this isn't brain surgery" anyway?

Just a brief note, just in the miscellaneous discussion thread.
I noticed 1BB hit 5,000 posts.
Most of them good stuff.
I am impressed.
Salute.

This calls for a celebration. Leaving for NYC later tonight and, after checking the AC weather forecast, probably spending the weekend on the Boardwalk. Should I keep an eye out for our good friend aceofspades?

This afternoon on a train in France, a couple of
US soldiers heard someone loading an automatic
rifle in a restroom and they tackled him when he
came out and started firing. These men are hero's
of the highest order, they saved who knows how
many lives.

I have to give mad props to landscapers. We decided to change a retaining wall and I wanted to add a french drain to another section. We could never afford to pay someone to do it so I volunteered. I figured how hard could it be. Well let me tell you. I spent 4 hours today and all I did was remove a small wall, dig a small hole and take down a small tree. I am exhausted. This may be a 2 month project.

Head to your local TREE nursery (not the nursery Subway Jared is interested in) Grab an immigrant for $8 an HR + tip. There must be better stuff to be doing with your time, like strip clubs and casinos.

True for a lot of it.
Unfortunately my kids, and nieces and nephews and cousins and a couple people I don't remember continue to tell the stories. I don't look very good in several of them, am the butt of the joke in one or two. All good.

Here's a couple of nuggets currently in the news.

A school has reportedly banned a little girl's 'Wonder Woman' lunch box deeming it too violent.

Meanwhile a school in Missouri is allowing a male high school student to use the girls bathroom because he says he's a girl. They offered him a gender neutral bathroom but, oh no, he wants the girls room.

Can't say I totally get the anti-PC thing. In some cases, it just seems like practicing disrespect, just because you can. Like keeping the "Redskins" name. Team names have changed over the years. It's not like a sacred thing to keep it, and probably a thousand different names you could pick that would be fine. I doubt if a lot of fans would even notice a couple years down the road.

But whatever, show you're tough by offending someone because you can rather than any damn good reason. If you want to have good reasons, just get in afternoon traffic for awhile. That car cut me off $#^%$^! Yeah, like that.

I'm going to guess they do, but the reason is many women have told me men's rooms are nastier. At least when they're not well kept like they usually are in a casino. And too many men pee on the toilet seat.

I'm a die hard redskins fan. It wouldnt be the end of the world if they had to change the name, but it would hurt me a little bit. Theres a lot of honorable tradition there. I'm pretty sure they've taken polls and most native Americans are somewhere between indifferent and actually honored by the name. It's all just something for people to be offended by so they can feel self righteous in my opinion. Just the simple mentioning of a skin color doesn't make it racist. Just my 2 cents

true but sometime we gotta take a step back and use common sense. not everything equates to everything else. If a majority or even close to half of native Americans were offended Id be all for a name change. But they're not, plain and simple. A lot of them actually really dig it and are proud. We can't change something every time someones offended. The PCness has to stop. And all these broadcasters all of the sudden refusing to say the team's name; where was this ten, even five years ago? It's just something to hitch your wagon to to feel high and mighty for a lot of folks. Thats just my opinion. I totally respect and understand the other side's opinion too, theres just bigger problems in the Native American community

In the larger ones, yes. Nudist colonies and art/music/theater schools tend to often be unisex in facilities.

I don't think you see them much anymore, but gas station bathrooms used to be single occupancy and outside the building. If you were traveling across the country, you never knew what condition they would be in.

I think the single occupancy encouraged some nasty behavior from some road travelers.

Yes. My daughter was landing on the Virgin flight three minutes after the fire broke out. The responses were so fast and accurate on the part of the plane and land crews that the de-boarding etc. all proceeded seamlessly.

I was nowhere near the east coast on 9/11, but via the power of TV it seemed like I was "there."

Someone called me up, said "turn on the news!", and I started watching shortly after the live coverage started.

Never has the power of television been as obvious as when I watched the horrific events of that dark day unfold.

Does anyone have any 9/11 recollections on this the 14th anniversary?

I lost a cousin, a really good guy, on that day. He was on the 92nd floor of tower one where he worked at a futures job.

We could see the smoke here in Connecticut for several days.

Yes, I remember.
I was on a sales call, listening to talk radio on the way there, heard about the 1st plane.
Got a sick feeling in my stomach.
Blew the sales call, just another typical long odds deal anyway....
Drove to one of my best long term customers, sat down with the traffic manager and assistant and watched the day unfold on their TV. Never been a day like that in my lifetime, I hope it is the only one. BTW, I was selling air cargo services, we didn't fly a lot of freight for the next few days.
Youuuuuu MIGHT be a 'rascal' if.......(nevermind ;-)...2F

Like others, the memories from that day are still etched in my mind. I remember hearing my co-worker talking to someone on the phone and expressing a sad disbelief when she got the news about the first plane hitting the north tower. When she told me the news, I took it as a tragic accident, but when I heard of the second plane hitting the other tower, it was clear that the United States was under attack.

We had a group of executives in from New York for meetings at the mid west company I worked for then, and even though they didn't work directly in the Trade Centers, their company had offices there. They knew many people in the building and watching the pain on their faces as they watched the events unfold on TV was heartbreaking. We ended up renting a 12 passenger van with driver to take them home since the airlines were grounded indefinitely.

I remember having conversations with my wife, who for a while was considering leaving work to pull our 4 year old out of pre-school, there were so many questions and so few answers.

I also remember looking up at the sky as I left work that day (4:30 or 5:00 central), not expecting to see any planes. But, directly above was a big plane being accompanied by two smaller planes on either side. I knew it had to be Air Force One. Later I found out that Bush had hopped around the country a little bit after the attacks, but his last leg back to Washington DC was from the air force base in Omaha (Offlutt AFB I believe) which would have taken the plane directly over my location.

There are very few days that are as vivid in my mind as September 11, 2001.

I'd echo the comments about the salute to the First Responders, as well as to those in our military who were thrust into action as a result of the cowards who attacked and killed innocent people.

I worked in Arlington, Va at the time. My ex-wife worked near by. We were both released early, just a couple of hours after the Pentagon was hit, and decided to take different routes home in case anything else happened. I drove across one of the Potomac River bridges into DC and say the smoke from the Pentagon in the distance.

Eventually, we all got home. We watched for hours wondering what would happen next.

I held hockey practice that night, optional of course, just so people could get out of their houses, talk, and the kids could skate a bit. That helped relieve some tensions...but just a bit...
