I got one of those portable/telescoping flagpoles that I take to sporting events. It's got a base that you drive your tire up on and drop the flagpole in. I will typically fly the US flag on top and the team's (Gators/Jaguars/US Soccer) flag below. I actually have a separate base that goes into ground to use at my house, but I have been to lazy to install it. Maybe I should do that this weekend so that I can fly Old Glory for Memorial Day!
Both my father and father-in-law fly the Stars and Stripes at their respective houses for patriotic holidays.

What a great bunch of people we have here! I come from a long line of proud military veterans, am one myself and will always have a soft spot for all vets. My wife and I do volunteer work with some and it's very rewarding.

I fly the flag on holidays, and some other days that I choose. This is one of those flags they run up and down the the pole all day, and sell to the American public. The pole at the White House. If they put up two poles and ran two crews (raising and lowering flags -later for sale) could we retire the debt quicker? Or would the jhit just hit the fan quicker?
Anyway, I like my flag, I fly my flag, best you not get in the way....Flag Feathers.
But there's only one flag I "fly"...
This one never comes down.

Quote: djatcSo theres tons of police and crime dramas on tv now, and with all this dna and forensics, how does anyone get away with murder or rape, besides a mistrial or a blunder in court?
A couple of things come to mind. Not everyone is in the DNA database. I'm not. A sample from a crime isn't much good if there's nothing to match it to. Many databases are severely backlogged to point that if and when DNA ever gets checked, the perpetrator may be long deceased.
What's your favorite crime drama, djatc? Mine would be one that is realistic and doesn't insult the viewers' intelligence. That ought to narrow it down quite a bit.
I liked some of the Law And Orders. Blue Bloods, with Donnie Wahlberg trying so hard to be the tough guy, is just awful. Magnum can't even save it and is, in fact, part of the problem. Sorry, Tom.

It really has gotten amazing with the DNA. They can now get enough to analyze from a bit of sweat from that is left somewhere.

I've heard that they're actually seeing the opposite effect. The criminals know how to better cover their tracks, and to always lawyer up by watching shows like Law & Order.

I watch a lot of real-life crime shows and it is amazing to me how many perpetrators will talk to the police, thinking they can outsmart them. In spite of all those shows [actually I think Law and Order is not a good example as IMO it doesn't show much very realistically]*
*the theme that there is always some guy confessing just to protect so-and-so, the real perp., is so common that it is getting parodied a lot now

I like law and order svu or criminal intent. It seems to me the best way to delay the inevitable of getting caught is to use bleach everywhere. I read an article somewhere that said many criminals are actually getting tips from these shows. Svu dropped significantly in quality, the writing on the first few seasons seemed miles ahead of the newer ones. I guess there are so many scenarios before you have to recycle the same murder/rapes.
It seems like lawyering up is nessicary guilty or innocent, as if you are questioned most people only laywer up when they are guilty. If you do it when you are guilty or not it makes it harder to determine guilt.
I do not believe that someone can be hypnotised. There were people in the audience that appeared to be also. They also wouldn't show the actual being hypnotised on TV.
What is your thoughts on this act. I call BS but that's just my opinion

I think it's pretty convincing when it's used in surgery. It's never claimed to work for everyone. Some people seem more susceptible to it.
The kind they do in shows and on stage are complete BS.Quote: GWAELast year we talked about magicians on AGT. Last episode there was a hypnotist that made Howie shake hands.

I'm sure under the right conditions the power of suggestion might be possible.

I have no problem with it being fake fie entertainment. What drives me insane is that Howie Mandel was the subject. If it is fake then I think it is a bunch of crap that a judge would partake .
This show pisses me off.
I've never had any idea what was ever going on whenever I watched it. But it just popped up on the TV randomly and now I'm watching it.
Can anyone give me the low-down or whatever on this show? Like the back-story or whatever hoopla is going on? Gratzi.

I just need rounders 2 to come out and life is complete.

I was at a Reveen show years ago and a friend of mine was one of audience that was hypnotized. They were sent back to their seats for a while during a break while still hypnotized. We talked to her and she seemed normal. We couldn't convince her she was still hynotized or that she even had been. After the break once the trigger was played up she went on stage like a zombie and did silly things.

I just started watched Archer, too. The characters of the show work at an company called ISIS, which is an independent contractor to government organizations such as the CIA and recently the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The company is owned by Mallory Archer, and her son Sterling Archer is the title character. Archer is a secret agent; he's James Bond-like but not too bright. His rival and fellow agent is Lana Kane, a beautiful African American. The other characters are the support staff: Cyril the accountant, Pam of human resources, Krieger the scientist, and another pretty lady. I was attracted to the show partly due Archer's having the same voice as Bob of Bob's Burgers.
Sure, sheer politeness as a participant in the show, the "silly things" were not degrading or involve nudity. A good many night club guests can be told to go up on stage and act as if you've been hypnotized and they will to the same running away from a black bear or asking a husband why it took him three hours to buy cigarettes on their wedding nightQuote: kenarmanAfter the break once the trigger was played up she went on stage like a zombie and did silly things.

a thought that comes to mind is what paperwork you get when you cash it in. If the bank gives you no paperwork, ask them point blank if it is going to be reported anyway to the IRS. It may be reported as cashed but that is all.
It's possible they will not know what was earned, in which case it means the IRS does not know either. On that amount, in that case, I imagine a wild guess will do.
Quote: GWAEWill the 3k count towards my AGI this year or just the interest?
Don't know.
I cashed some in a long, long time ago and do not remember it coming up as something to report. Very small amount, however.

Quote: RSOh yeah, like that old dude with the roller blades (or skates perhaps) saying, "This is my invention!" [or something like that].
I missed that story ( understood your post, I think. ) Some old fart claimed he invented skates, or rollerblades, after someone else came along (did the hard work) and made some big money?
Quote: GWAENot going to say just what yet as I am waiting to hear back from one of those invention companies that I contacted today.
Be very skeptical of those invention companies, Most of them are just ripoffs.
Quote: GWAEI am kinda pissed right now. I have had a shark tank idea for about 3 years now. It was unique and something that I would buy if it was available. I saw a store today that just introduced something very very very similar. It was a like a kick to the $#@!s when I saw it. Not going to say just what yet as I am waiting to hear back from one of those invention companies that I contacted today.
A guy I once knew pitched a design for a plumbing product to Moen.
He pitched another product idea to Proctor and Gamble.
Both companies told him they were not interested.
Then, both companies came out with their own successful versions of the same product ideas that he showed them.
When he complained, they told him they had already invented the products before he did.
His mistake was not getting a patent first.
I have also heard that those invention places are basically crooks but sometimes it makes sense.
