Of course. But we are just arriving a few hours before. We are leaving it up in the air.

I have a different friend who took me alone once to a GK game. I let him pick the restaurant. He picked a moderately priced one figuring I was paying. That was very considerate.

I just looked at stub hub. I think the seats near us will be over $1k each on the secondary market. $1k to see a hockey game? I paid around $20 to see the Islanders first Stanley Cup run.

My friend from Buffalo who transplanted to Vegas 15 years ago is taking me and wifey to first Golden Knights -Canadians game. He said center ice lower level. I am guessing tickets are $300? I’ll offer to pay but I doubt he will take money from me.

No Sabres playoff games in quite a while……

If I see someone wearing a super nice watch I may say hello….

I'd long heard that this was true, but then again it could just be an urban myth.

On "Leave it to Beaver," did June Lockhart really say to Hugh Beaumont something like:

I would be surprised if center ice lower level were at $300. $500 maybe but I would be shocked at $300.

I’d say the likelihood of 18 yos in a row is greater than my wife taking rappelling lessons. Maybe she can offer to teach you how to balance on spiked high heels.

I remember how Kennedy emphasized physical fitness in schools: "The President's Council on Physical Fitness," IIRC.

Perhaps as a result I had REAL physical education classes, with running, weights, and ball sports.

But today that is but a memory in public schools, so far as I can tell.

What caused Americans to discount the importance of regular exercise?

Maybe Kamala Harris can actually do something useful and revitalize the program again.

As Americans get fatter every year the need to reign in sloth and reckless indulgence becomes more and more paramount.

Otherwise we'll just be a nation of diabetics susceptible to stroke and heart attack.

In NYC and in many school districts, gyms have been converted to classrooms because of space limitations. Most urban schools are no longer built with big schoolyards because the land is too expensive and outdoor recess is a security nightmare. Many new urban schools are built with mini-yards on the roofs of the school.
Obviously, that's just one of many factors.
In NYC, parents take their kids to McDonalds because they have the only safe playground in the neighborhood.

Crime is so far down in the last 20-40 years and people are so much bigger than they were then that sounds more like an excuse than real reason. Yes other factors as mentioned. I’d assume what video games are like today vs blowing on cartridges and Oregon trail doesn’t help. The proliferation of very low carb (not distinguishing between simple/complex) diets being among the healthiest for many people is because of the assumption folks don’t move around and live a more or less sedentary lifestyle.

It may be as simple as working class and middle class being increasingly economically squeezed in some cases, unless you’re a good cook and have the time the inexpensive food beyond beans, unrefined grains and frozen veggies/fruits is generally unhealthy to consume on a normal basis. Much of the world that is relatively poor but not in poverty eats cheap and is relatively lean and healthy so I’m not sure that’s a good reason either.

I don’t think there’s any country that has a comparable problem near our scale from an excessive weight standpoint so it’s clearly a cultural issue of excess or nutrition.

Backgammon is the most disgusting game ever. How does anyone play it?

I basically had eight rolls and needed a six once and I would have won. Granted, my opponent could have got high doubles twice, I suppose, then a single six wouldn't have saved me, but whatever. All of the planning and strategy just to lose because of the variance of dice rolls at the end? Screw that game.

(Will probably try again later, but it won't take many more games like that for me to never play again.)

((Yes, I know no six in sixteen dice is over 5%; it doesn't matter.))

I might do the same myself but it would depend on the time and amount of money involved. What if we are talking 1000+ in value for 30 min or so with little risk? I assume you would turn down the 80% in value and just play it.

Depending on the risk level and what else you can do with the money that’s the mathematically correct move anyway. For example, off the top of my head without looking it up the certainty equivalent in blackjack card counting for someone betting half kelly is only about 60% of the EV. I may plug it into software later to type a more accurate response but probably won’t bother.

Almost nothing in the casinos have zero risk, even when it's mathematically zero risk something can go wrong.
There have been a few juicy slamdunk promotions where on paper I should have went all in, however being at the mercy of the casino and the gaming regulators to honor their side of the deal, I took a more cautious approach, doing so also helps not blowing up the play.

Anyways, let's assume you had the money and opportunity to buy 10k worth of free play for 8k and a 9/6 job was available, I assume you would do that?

I search for the best price on just about everything I buy - it's kind of like a game with me - I'm not really desperate for low prices

although Walmart's prices are sharp I recently found a product for much less at Walgreens

there are lots of other examples - it would be a mistake to assume Walmart has the best price on everything

to realize the impact of inflation - I bough a 44 count of nasal strips at target for $16.69. the next time I needed them they priced them at $20.99

a huge % increase in only a little more than one month - I found them for less somewhere else

I forgot what thread it was where Billyran was saying the bathroom/ shower of an RV is too small for him, but I just realized after watching another mod being done, you can have something completely customized to your specifications. Obviously, not in a little RV, but in the bigger ones, unless you have multiple people in there, you can pretty much rearrange the space usage with customization to just about whatever you like.

Many RVs come with three or four plans to choose from and there is some wiggle room on top of that.
An RV can only be so wide, so unless you place the bathroom at the front or rear, you are very limited by space. Almost all mid-cabin bathrooms are small. The RV I was in had a 22X26x38 shower/bath. I've seen 36X30 showers in some rvs. I saw a Roman tub in one but that cost about two million all in. If I was dropping $250K, I wouldn't be looking at RVs, per say.
Rear bathrooms are very uncommon, so I'd say in 85-95% of stock RVs the bathrooms are too small for me. If I weighed 220, it wouldn't be a problem.

How long are typical motorhomes? I have covered lighted RV parking at my house that is about 33 feet long. I want to advertise that when I sell my house as almost no one in my neighborhood has that. Would that accomodate most motorhomes? I am sure there are million dollar ones that would be longer than that. My real estate agent said that the RV parking should add at least $20k to the price of the house.

I don't know. The market is booming here so selling should not be difficult but I will do anything to maximize the price when we put it on sale. I had an offer from Opendoor and it went up $30k last week.

There are different classes but most run 25-33 feet. 5th wheels can be a bit longer. Ideally, you want to be able to pull in and drive out the other side. Having to back an RV into a carport seems to be an acquired skill. Most of them have slideouts that always seem to lineup up with one of the roof supports.

I'm pretty sure dry camping is either illegal or highly regulated in Henderson so I don't think renting it out is feasible.

Ok. I was freaked out. But here are the facts. I’m visiting my sister in New Jersey. They have a deck of cards laying out on a table in the living room. I pick it up and count them and there are 52 cards. I have been practicing Asia poker since my Vegas trip. Asia poker uses a joker just like Pai Gow poker. Whenever I play with a deck that doesn’t have a joker I just count the 2 of spades as a joker, thus the deck will not then have a 2 of spades, which is just a minor change. The first few hands I deal no 2 of spades. Then on the next hand I get a joker. But I had counted the deck to 52 cards. I recount and it is 52 cards. I flip them over and……. It is 52 cards…. Missing the 2 of spades!
I know it is not proof of anything.. but it wierded me out!

I live in a very safe area

but recently, prolly a freaked out methhead tried to break into a condo above our parking garage by pulling a heavy trashcan over to step up onto and then trying to climb up into the unit by a drainpipe - the drainpipe broke and he didn't get in - the unit is owned by a young woman living alone

I've never owned a gun but because of this I am considering buying one

it's not very likely to happen to me because I'm high up where it's much more difficult to break into

if a freak were ever to break into my unit I would have no problem taking care of business

after the incident I called the Police and they came and the guy who looked like he'd rather be somewhere else told me there was nothing he could actually do because the freak didn't actually break in - he said there's no such crime as an attempted break in

I don't know if that's true - I think the cop was just lazy - we have cameras and he refused to take the Manager's # to contact

it seems like he should have done something

From an article about Vegas water shortage

Quote:

Different states get different water allocations and Nevada is a victim of its depopulated history, getting just 300,000 acre-feet of water a year (by comparison California gets 4.4m acre-feet) under an agreement struck before the Hoover dam was completed in the 1930s. “The joke is that Nevada’s representative was drunk,” said Pellegrino, who was born in 1983, when the state’s population was barely 900,000. It’s now more than 3m and receives tens of millions of tourists a year

There's no secret. Just know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

Either...why do swimmers compete in different swim styles? Or, why don't runners have to run in different ways? Like run backwards. Or everyone has to skip down the track. Or hop down the track.

Closest I can think of is a walking competition. Hurdles isn't a style, so much as competing over obstacles And other events like long jump or pole vault aren't racing. Skiing or snow boarding is an equipment based race. As is bicycling.

Interesting thought about swimming styles. Race Walking is the best other example it seems.

Olympics sports apparently can be added by the host cities if there is local interest. Softball in Japan for 2020 is one example. The next Olympics will even have Breaking as an event:

When I was on the track team in High School, everyone had to do two events. For the outdoor season, I did shot and discus but indoors I wasn't very good at any event.
Then my coach had me try the hop ,skip and jump and I was okay at it. today they call it the triple jump but it still requires you to hop, and skip then jump.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.
