Yep. I prefer NY pizza but these are for a party for a guy from Livonia. His wife thinks he will appreciate the taste of home.

Unarmed.... you may ‘win’ some of the battles but suffer severe injuries. I’d rather be me than a goose, but you could get hurt while killing the goose. Anyone that thinks they can take a healthy lion in a fight has never fought a healthy lion.

I now have a small dog. Maltese/Yorkie combo. It THINKS it can kill the other dogs 5 times it’s size in the neighborhood. It will charge at them and if it was a real fight my dog would end up a snack. I guess my dog would have answered it could beat the elephant.

I just noticed something unusual in my gambling history.

I've kept accurate records of my daily wins and losses from each casino I've gambled at since 2003.

As a non-AP / recreational gambler (craps, high limit slots) I expect to lose overall, and until a year ago that is what happened: every year I had a net loss.

But I am at the same level now that I was 22 sessions ago: some minor variations of course but at the same point now as then.

No big handpays to skew it, just a bit of good old variance.

Yep it happens.

A few years ago when the game of thrones machines came out, I had a pretty good run. Over a few months I put around $30k coin in on that machine (a lot for me as an occasional minimum bet player), and came out slightly ahead.

again, IMHO - most people when they get into their cars immediately hit the music APP or radio or cell

but if you turn everything off and listen closely to the sound of your engine and brakes - and you hear some weird sounds that don't belong - there's a pretty good chance your car needs service of some kind

I do none of those things. I used to listen to talk radio in the 90s I haven't turned the radio on in a car and 15 years. I just bought a Toyota van and it came with a 9 speaker stereo system with a subwoofer and an aftermarket $750 Alpine Stereo in the dash. I have yet to turn it on and probably never will. I don't need the distraction. My own thoughts are far more interesting than anything I can play on the radio.

My thoughts, while often incisive, do not provide self-entertainment 24/7, thus I often turn to outside sources while driving, at least at those times when I am not having brilliant flashes of insight.

I have a CD player in my Volvos and truck, the wife's new Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition Turbo does not have one; it has Apple car play.

That may be fine for those with a smart phone, but I don't have one and have hoped to avoid buying one.

Thus sucks!

I keep swearing I’m going to start listening to podcasts to kill some time in the car.

But maybe I should look for textbooks on audio, and see how much I can learn of a subject I know little or nothing about.

they could say whatever they want - but:

"The undisputed crown jewel of Europe’s classical music scene is Vienna. Several generations of the greatest composers lived and worked in Vienna under the patronage of the House of Hapsburg. These composers included Mozart, who first performed for the Empress Maria Theresa at Schönbrunn Palace.

But it wasn’t just Mozart who made his mark on Vienna. Beethoven traveled to the city to study under Joseph Haydn (no slouch himself!) and lived there for 35 years.

But Vienna’s musical heritage doesn’t stop there. You can visit the final resting place of many of these legends by taking a trolley out to the Central Cemetery, where Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Strauss, and Schoenberg are interred. Some modern-day music lovers are also opting for plots there for the chance to be buried among their idols."

I don't like audio books because I imagine the way a narrator would read the book aloud and it's almost always very different from the narrator speaking in the audio book and I generally don't like him or her

The House of Hapsburg was the German Royal Family. World War One found a Hapsburg on the thrones of both Germany and England.
What we today call Germany only came about in the 1870s. Before that, "German" was more a philosophy than a country. Hitler's first acts were taking over traditional german lands like Czechoslovakia and Austria.

I’ll wait until I’m dead.

I’d hate to think how much Beethoven could charge to have one of those masterclass courses, Probably way more than he made in his entire lifetime.

However, If Mozart was a typical prodigy, we might not be able to learn that much from him as they often don’t seem to be fully cognizant of their process. MRI scan might be interesting though.

(Actually it would mean nothing to me to be buried by anyone famous)

to understand the intense devotion of classical musicians it's necessary to understand how they work

these are people who practice their craft for several hours every single day

you might say, so what - an electrician practices his craft for 8 hours or more each day

but it's different - what they do is highly complex and extremely difficult

much more difficult than what pop or rock musicians play

you sometimes see an extremely impressive rock guitarist playing very fast

but if you analyze the music - most of the time he's playing the same notes over and over just in different octaves
there are exceptions - there are some great rock musicians and even more great jazz musicians

but, generally speaking, it's not remotely similar in difficulty to what classical musicians do - especially the soloists

I've played guitar for many years
I'm good enough that many of those who have listened to me are impressed

but I'm not fooling myself
what I can do is nowhere near in difficulty or complexity compared to what a classical guitarist can do

This was my attitude up until two years ago. One of the best things I ever did. Calling it a smartphone is a misnomer. It's a handheld computer, it does almost everything my laptop does. I search for things on it dozens of times a day everywhere I am no matter what I'm doing. I use it as a phone maybe once a month.

It's been like that for at least several years now. I noticed it when I was living in Vegas. What you need to consider, in many cases, is the speed of delivery. I recently bought a Pasta Maker. Amazon was asking $234 with three-day delivery. The As seen on tv price came out to $219, with thirty-day delivery. Checking further, I found it at Costco for $189 delivered. I took a shot and had it less than a week later.
I still use Amazon for its convenience but shop around for big ticket items.

Nevada first state to ban planting/usage of “non-functional” grass (not marijuana, going other direction there.) due to water/drought issues. Would eliminate about 40% of current grass in Las Vegas area. Golf courses and personal residences exempt, would mainly effect entrances to office businesses, medians, shared residential areas etc. I am pretty much against the ridiculousness of golf courses in the desert but that part will never change money talks.

An entirely necessary step and should be done in most southwest states that have growing populations but simply do not have the natural resources to support those populations. Native landscaping can look perfectly nice doesn’t have to be just barren land.

Arizona gives some sort of rebate for switching to "desert landscaping". As does Cochise Count and the City of Bisbee. It is pretty rare to see sprinklers on any of the lawns here. The major industry in Southern Arizona is farming and ranching so the drought is taken pretty seriously. There is a dairy farm about thirty miles from here that claims to have over 100,000 cows. I can only imagine how much water they use in a year.

I don’t remember a dollar figure my grandfather told me but I do recall it being rather unnerving and disturbing the amount of money their HOA community in Mesa uses to water the grass in common areas.

The livestock water usage is an interesting point/dilemma; there is so much land that is not useable for much else, I suppose you could make a similar argument for golf courses.

I am pretty sure the goal would be for no divots therefore no maintenance. The material under the fake grass would have to be spongy so the club could get way under the ball. I am guessing that it could be done very well, but at what investment price?

Artificial turf also holds heat more than grass so it would be more uncomfortable for the players, although I'm not sure how much.

The mini turfs you hit off on an indoor driving range I’m sure would run into the tens of millions of dollars if you had to make 18 fairways and greens out of them. They are WAY easier to hit off of than real grass. They are tough enough that you would not make a divot on one. I don’t think they would wear out quickly, and there are versions to simulate ‘the rough’.

Just use less grass.
Have a barrier of rough round the fairways and use desert landscaping. You could cut down the grass by 20% and save water. What's the point of playing golf in the desert if the course plays like your home courses.

. The point is my home courses are unplayable from around November through April due to freaking winter! There is a great course in Vegas called Rhodes Ranch. It is set up like you describe. If you stray too far from the fairway you are in sand or rocks. My local friend has a club he calls his ‘rock wedge’ that he uses from those areas, and it has multiple dings. I’ve played some lesser courses in the Buffalo area that mostly only water the greens, and the fairways are brownish when we get a dry spell.

I play Rhodes often and do like the course. Just about every golf hacker that I know has a rock club, I just cheat and move my ball.

Virtual golf - like the Top Flite golf franchise - is becoming immensely popular. A Top-Flite golf attraction is being built in my area, with 6 hotels around it!
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

Just make the fairway an inch wide. That's all the ball really needs.

Dubai Country Club

A grassless course in the Arabian Desert that looks like one giant bunker. Players are allowed to hit off a plastic grass mat they carry round with them, if the ball winds up in a marked area. The “browns”, the course’s equivalent of greens, are smoother than grass and consist of a mixture of sand and oil raised above the desert floor. They putt slower but truer than most greens. The club has even passed a local rule offering a free drop for buried lies in the sandy bunkers.

3 members of an FDA Advisory Committee have resigned because they felt the approval of a new alzheimers drug which showed weak evidence of effectiveness was a terrible decision

it's not often that you see public officials take a stand even though that stand will hurt their pocketbook and their resume

they are to be commended

My friend from Buffalo who transplanted to Vegas 15 years ago is taking me and wifey to first Golden Knights -Canadians game. He said center ice lower level. I am guessing tickets are $300? I’ll offer to pay but I doubt he will take money from me.

No Sabres playoff games in quite a while……

If I see someone wearing a super nice watch I may say hello….
