Quote: gamerfreakI often wonder who the people are paying $350k for a bill, and how many of those people exist.
I know a guy who’s very wealthy and he has what is apparently one of the best or most complete Nickel collections in the world.
I asked why he chose nickels, and he said “I couldn’t afford to have the best penny collection in the world.”
Once you get over $100,000 price point, the circle of buyers is pretty limited. Even $10,000. Coins don't seem to be all that popular with the newly rich tech and Wall St crowd.
They seem to go for comics, art and baseball cards more, but only the better examples. Guy might pay $1,000 for a nice 1967 Mickey Mantle but have no interest in a 1967 Roger Maris at $1.
40 year old rich guys seem to enjoy blowing some riches on the items they had when they were 13-15.
We call it the rule of 20. What's popular today may go out of style, but in twenty years there will be a market for it and the market will have money.
Quote: billryanSold a comic book last year for $40,000. It was a 12 cent comic. Just bought a comic with a .20 cent cover for $1300. Will be offering it for $2,000. What it was isn't important. It's what it is worth today and more importantly what it will be tomorrow that matters.
My roommate collects higher end comics. Which is the one your selling for 2000 (he might be interested) and which one did you sell for 40k?
The big book last year was Amazing Fantasy 15( 1st Spiderman) in 6.0. A really nice copy for the grade.
We should meet up. I live in Henderson. Only have met two comic collectors out here and both collect the Distinguished Competition. I mostly deal in pre 1976 Marvels, or Schomburg Golden Age stuff.
I called for a ride, and when a car matching the description of my driver’s car pulled up, another group hopped in the car and they took off before I could even check. I figured it was just a similar car.
10 minutes pass and still no Uber. The driver texts me and says “sorry I can’t make it, I am canceling the ride”.
AND THEN I AM CHARGED A CANCELATION FEE
I disputed the charge in the Uber app and they refunded the fee in the form of an Uber credit. NOPE. I’m not trading real dollars for Uber dollars because the driver was a crayon eater.
I will say they gave me a real refund in about 5 minutes after I sent an angry email, but MAN did the whole situation piss me off out of the principal of it. And because I ended up taking a taxi which was almost 2x the price.
Quote: gamerfreakI’ve almost always had pleasant experiences with Uber but man they pissed me off today.
When I got home from Europe a friend was supposed to pick me up, who was a no show. Then I tried for about half an hour, being the cheap bastard that I am, to connect with Uber. It always got hung up in the "searching for your ride" phase. Never any feedback, it just got stuck there. Finally, I got a message, on about my 12th attempt that said "No available cars at this time."
Why couldn't they say that to begin with? I can see in Vegas that in super-peak times the system might be so flooded with ride requests they have to simply tell their customers to find another option. Now, I'm sure they could still take some requests. Perhaps a solution would be a warning message upon logging on that demand is far exceeding supply and that prices would be tripled and taking a cab was recommended.
BTW, I had to resort to taking a cab, who attempted to long-haul me. I blew up at the guy and threatened to report him. He then got very apologetic and turned off the meter until I felt it was fair to turn it back on.

It just told me last night that there was no regular card available, so I had to get an SUV (a little extra $$).
Most likely you had a poor GPS or data connection. I’ve seen the app do goofy things when that was the case.

The only other issue I had was a driver getting lost and the ride cost 2x more than it should have because of that. They refunded the entire ride though. Their customer service is pretty liberal with refunds.

They are more or less forced to long haul by their employers.
IIRC, it’s illegal for taxis to long haul you, unless you requested that route (obviously).

Now that begs the question. Are they all equal?
I hate when the slices are all different size and the toppings are all disproportionate and stuff. Who wants the sliver?
They should be cut laterally, not radially into 9 . It's a bitch trying to get the sizes in proportion to the weight of the family members. Some eat multiple pieces for their portion, of course.Quote: MaxPenNow that begs the question. Are they all equal?

Depends how hungry I am. Sometimes six slices will do, others, I want eight.
Quote: billryanDepends how hungry I am. Sometimes six slices will do, others, I want eight.
But 8 is more than six. So obviously a better deal. (BJ joke).
Personally, I like 6 pieces of a medium, 4 of a personal, 8 of a large or bigger.

why not just get 6 $1.00 McDoubles for the same price?
your quarter pounder including the bun and everything else probably weighs .75 lb.
6 McDoubles probably weighs 3 lbs.
it looks like you're giving up +EV for some potentially mythical non realistic taste bud extravaganza (insert smiley faced emoji here)

At McDonald’s the regular burger patties are 1.6oz or 1/10 lb before cooking. They are called 10:1 patties internally.
The QP patties are before cooking 4.25oz like the name suggests. They’re called 4:1 internally.
I’ve never worked at McDonald’s, I’m just fat and pay attention to little details like this.
Quote: IbeatyouracesWhere are you finding McDoubles that are still only $1.00?
I thought their McDoubles became $1.00 when they started their fairly new $1, $2, $3 thing. I just bought a bacon McDouble for $2. Wouldn't a McDouble without bacon have to be less?
I could be mistaken.

It depends on what market the store is in, but McDoubles are $1.49 where I am.
The double cheeseburger is $1.79 because there’s an extra slice of cheese.

Cheeseburger 1.00
Double hamburger 1.19
McDouble 1.69
Double cheeseburger 1.89
Bacon McDouble 2.00
Triple cheeseburger 3.00
Quarterpounder with Cheese 4.49

Could you please tell me exactly the difference (s) between a double hamburger and a McDouble? And if it's pertinent, a double cheeseburger? Also, are the patties in a regular Big Mac the same patties used in all of the above?
Quote: beachbumbabsCould you please tell me exactly the difference (s) between a double hamburger and a McDouble? And if it's pertinent, a double cheeseburger? Also, are the patties in a regular Big Mac the same patties used in all of the above?
The only difference between the McDouble and a Double cheeseburger is that the double cheeseburger has 2 slices of cheese as opposed to 1. Double hamburger has no cheese.
Big Macs also use the 1/10lb patty.
Before they were discontinued, the Mac Jr and Grand Mac used a 1/6lb patty.
mcdouble- two pattys, one slice
Double cheeseburger_ 2 pattys, two slices
Unless there's another difference, I'm going to go there and complain loudly.
BTW, the cheese they use in those things is awful. Maybe the burger.that uses swiss is better (I don't like swiss ), but I've never understood them using the cheese they do.
Quote: beachbumbabsMy go-to is double hamburgers, which my McDs have taken off the menu. They've been ringing them up as Mcdoubles no cheese, and it appears cheating me, if the dble hamburger is still in the system.

No difference beyond the cheese.
Download the app and plug your store in and see if it’s on that menu.
With the new “Craft” burgers, they now have white cheddar, which you can sub for the normal cheese on any burger (shouldn’t cost any extra).
their cheap burgers always taste quite dry to me. am I right gamerfreak? I'd be surprised if I'm wrong.
Quote: lilredroosterI'm pretty sure they use a better cut of meat for their specialty burgers and quarter pounder then they do for their cheap burgers.

Not sure if it’s a better quality ground beef or not - but the 1/4lb patties are not frozen anymore in most markets.
The regular patties are still frozen.
And they are still not as good as they used to be in the. )-; I absolutely loved the quarterpounders when I was younger(it's as of it had to be a better cut of meat). Then something changed one day and they sucked.Quote: gamerfreakNot sure if it’s a better quality ground beef or not - but the 1/4lb patties are not frozen anymore in most markets.

The double cheeseburger (Made to order/"fresh" off the fryer) are not that bad. Whenever I'm on the road and need somthing to eat fast, I will go with that.
I have a question, do they salt the burgers there when the cook them? Sometimes they are super salty and suck, other times they are fine.
Lucky for me, I have an In-N-Out close to my house.

At five and a half miles in the Florida sun, I don't go to McDonalds/Wendy's much at all. The freebies at Publix are good but at unpredictable times. if you do well at the casino y'all should avoid high calorie fast food with its high sugar and high salt content.Quote: petroglyphBurger is my favorite cut of meat.

After cooking, they season them with a salt/pepper blend from a dispenser that is supposed to release a set amount of salt and pepper. I guess a number of things could go wrong for too much to be dispensed.
I think the reason the QP meat tastes better (beyond being cooked fresh now) is that they cook each one to order, unlike the regular patties where they cook them in batches and hold at temperature.
I think McDonalds is the best fast food burger ascide from In-n-Out and White Castle, which we don’t really have on the east coast. I’m not a fan of Wendy’s. Burger King is okay.

You think in and out and mcd are the better of them all? You are giving us fat guys a bad name. In and out is bland and tasteless. Mcd is ok but is garbage. I am think Wendy's jbc and jr whoppers win by far.
I stopped going to mcd about 8 months ago when we ordered 2 big mac meals and 2 happy meals and our total was something like $26. I know the prices are on the board but they had just raised them and was expecting it to be so much. I could have gone to chilis for the same price.

You need to use the coupons in the app. They are somewhat gameable too. I never spend more than $2-$4 and that often gets me a full combo meal.
I stopped getting fries though. I can only destroy my health so much for cheap food.
you can control every aspect of it. i.e. a lot of burger places won't cook you anything other than well done. but there's lots of other reasons they're better if you cook them yourself.
You don't have a White Castle near you? I thought they were all over the North East. I used to use White Castle as an indicator of if I drive home or cab it. If stopping White Castle on the way became a focused thought, I knew it was time to cab it.
Let's get one thing straight, even though we refer to McDonald's hamburgers as hamburgers, they are not really hamburgers. They have their own special taste.Quote: GWAEYou think in and out and mcd are the better of them all? You are giving us fat guys a bad name. In and out is bland and tasteless. I can't believe you think In-N-out is tasteless(do you get cheeses?). I think you are crazy, or you must normally be adding way too much bacon and other crap to your burgers. Try asking for some extra spread next time.

I really try not to eat much fast food, but Checkers was my go to place in NY. I first had them in Florida in the late 70s and really looked forward to them. Around 2000, they started popping up in NY. Not too many at first, but by 2010 there were a significant number of them. There are a couple in Vegas, but none located near me.
I prefer Carl Jrs these days, in any event, even if it is strictly limited.

The only one I know about is a few hours away from me in a more rural part of PA.
We have a couple Sonics though.
