Yeah, my Netflix got stolen by some crumb in Mexico City, who then upgraded it to the deluxe package and put the whole family's accounts on it. Still autopaying to my Visa.
In Spanish. Which I don't speak.
It was hours of hell getting the account back. The worst part was trying to find the thing that would change the language on the app back to English.
I had ignored it (not tried to watch anything) for about 4 months, right about when it got stolen. Netflix was kind enough to refund 90 days of charges.

You should have built a wall around your Netflix account.

She's probably part of the KKK for not letting a Mexican family use her Netflix for free. She should have at least done DACA and let the kids continue to use the Netflix. It's not their fault!!!

I simply log in and immediately check for inactivity. I make sure any changes in my bank account are for my own shopping forays however drunken the escapades may have been. I even check my lousy Walgreen's account to make sure nobody has been using it for anything nefarious. Probably no self respecting hacker would ever be interested in my paltry bank balance but I do make sure twice a week that no one has made even a trivial withdrawal from it.
Its just the times we live in.

I don't get this one at all. Making a joke about a having a baby isn't about anyone else's biological difficulties or loss, unless you specifically hint somehow at that kind of reference there's no relationship.
Also, too many people having a emotional breakdowns of not being able to get pregnant on a planned schedule is so first world problem. It isn't even necessarily outside of normal. Yeah, it could be, but then my headache could be your grandmom's brain tumor who killed her and devastated your life. Can't get worked up about every normal event that turned tragic, and relate it to everyone else. Jeez.

It's a great irony I've noticed. Or maybe it's a paradox. Or maxim. You tell me:
The more people complain online about being offended or oppressed, the more likely they are to be privileged and well-off.
I was going from Harrah's A.C. to the town over called Brigantine, which is super close, less than a 10 minute ride. After we started moving, I noticed his meter wasn't on and asked why. He said the meter was only for A.C., not Brigantine (which I doubt). I asked how much it would be and he said around $12. Then when he dropped us off, he said it was $18. It was 3AM and I was tired and I'm not going to protest over a $5-$6 discrepancy. I am sure most of these scumbag drivers know that most people wont.
It's no wonder Uber is killing Taxi's. They will be their own undoing.

It is for her and between melatonin gummy bears in day care and more potent drugs to allow sneaking out for a tanning session, a little jolt of electricity ain't nothin' much at all.Quote: TigerWuSomeone should tell that woman that going to church is not a requirement in Christianity...

Perhaps not that church but from what is taught by most(?) mainstream Religion's here in the US is that attending church is a requirement to make it into the kingdom of God.Quote: TigerWuSomeone should tell that woman that going to church is not a requirement in Christianity...
What constitutes a church according to the bible? IIRC it is just a few people at any location where the bible is being discussed/taught or God is being worshipped. The church is supposed to be the people.

Of course, you can call yourself whatever you want as far as I'm concerned.
Some 1,700 people work at the YouTube HQ. The company is owned by Google and is the area's biggest employer.
I had no idea that many people worked there and I also had no clue that google owned them.

Google buys YouTube for $1.65 billion - Business - US business ...
www.nbcnews.com/id/15196982/ns/business-us.../t/google-buys-youtube-billion/
Oct 10, 2006 - Google Inc. is snapping up YouTube Inc. for $1.65 billion in a deal that catapults the Internet search leader to a starring role in the online video revolution.
speaking of buying a company. Can someone explain to me how that works? I watch shark tank all the time and it makes no sense to me. Say I put 100k into company. I go on sharktank and sell 25% of my shares for 25k. Shouldnt that 25k go into my pocket since they are buying it off of me. It appears on that show people are always taking that 25k and buying stuff for the company. That doesn't make sense to me.
So when google buys youtube for 1.6 billion, where does that money go? Is there even money exchanging hands?

The $25k goes back in to the company to do with as the owners of the company please. They could take it as profit and distribute it to the existing owners (aka putting it in your pocket if you are the sole owner). But more likely, they need that capital to make improvements and grow the business. If you are on shark tank you obviously have a business in the early going and that inflow of cash would be best used to expand.
Quote:So when google buys youtube for 1.6 billion, where does that money go? Is there even money exchanging hands?
Usually in these big corporate acquisitions, the buyout is either in part or in whole using the acquiring company's stock. In fact, in this case it was all stock:
Quote:The all-stock deal announced Monday unites one of the Internet’s marquee companies with one of its rapidly rising stars.
(from here)
So what happened in this case is that the owners of YouTube (the founders, investors, and probably early employees) all got a cut of that $1.65 billion in Google stock. Each of those owners had a specific stake in the company, or equity. Let's say you were one of the cofounders and you had 10% equity in YouTube before the acquisition (this is hypothetical since I don't know anything about who had equity in YouTube). After the sale, you were then the proud owner of $165 million in Google stock, which you could then sell on the open market for cash or keep.
Hope that helps; I'm not a business expert but know a little bit just from being in the tech industry and knowing a little bit about investing.
Long ago leveraged buyouts were common where investors would take out loans to buy a company and then use, not the company's profits, but the company's assets to pay off the loan, increase per share earnings and get out. Sort of like buying a gas station but selling off the tools and lifts to repay the loans.
Quote: FleaStiffOften such stock is restricted such as it can't be sold for a specified time period and the options are not exercisable until a certain date.

LBOs are still happening. There were some regulations put in place to slow the gutting for assets when things started crashing in 2007, but those have mostly been cancelled by the current Administration.
I do think most of the low-hanging fruit is gone, though. For example, most airlines lease their equipment and terminal space now, where before they were owning airplanes and building concourses, which made them attractive LBO targets in the past. Similar changes in other industries, along with a huge increase in offshoring physical assets the last couple of decades, has made LBOs less attractive.
They may just not want to be at home. I remember when Monday was my favorite day of the week, whereas everyone else preferred it be Friday.Quote: onenickelmiracleIf a person refuses to temporarily leave a job for even a few days, when they're in control of money for an employer, is there any other real motive, beyond not wanting to be discovered for some kind of ongoing financial crime? And then on top of that who the hell watches commercials ecxept maybe during sporting events?
It seems like a system based on people paying for cable then sitting through commercials is doomed. But then again, it seems like it would have died with the invention of the remote.

Haven't done it yet, but a few friends have told me about buying Amazon Fire Stick. Then you have to jail break it and install KODI. There are many videos on youtube on how to do it. I was told you can get just about every channel including sports through this platform for free.

In addition to the above, Vip box. I think reddit has streams for most games. Sports bars and casinos, even.
Personally, I'll almost never sit there and just watch a sporting event. Maybe boxing or baseball occasionally.
I guess if you are a total die hard and watch several games a week, paying an outrageous cable bill makes some sense. But i don't know that there are enough such peple to sustain the model.
Also, do you watch the ads?

I try not to. I am a "flipper". When an ad comes up I instinctively switch channels. I have a great internal clock which tells me when the two minute commercial break is over.
