In addition to:
"Has the Miracle Mile shopping mall (not really a mile long), with visitor favorite Tipsy Robot, featuring robots making drinks."
Suggestions:
- Also nominated for the Casino Hall of Shame for having 6/5 JoB Video Poker at the $ 5 denomination.
- Rooms have movie related mementos
- Was it previously the Aladdin ? Or did the Aladdin get torn down ?
It was indeed previously the Aladdin. I added that to the list. For all the casinos, I need to go down the list and add what they were previously. Most casinos have an ancestor.
What hall of shame? Mine? I never considered them for inclusion. Having games with bad odds doesn't get a casino into the HoS. Venetian got into the HoS not for its triple-zero roulette, but because it tried to spin triple-zero roulette as good for the player. Four Queens tried a similar spin, but when they were called out on it, they issued the proper apology (and thus didn't make the HoS).
Quote: MichaelBluejayNewest article: What's special about each casino.
It's a work in progress, but I've got something for all of the strip casinos, and some of the downtown casinos.
I love this! Great idea and tone. Keep it light and chatty and free of "branding messages," lol.
Your HoS has high ( low ? ) standards ! Anyways, I nominated it because a major Las Vegas Strip property shouldn't stoop to McCarran levels.Quote: MichaelBluejayHaving games with bad odds doesn't get a casino into the HoS.
After the renovations a few years ago (2018ish) the rooms don't have the movie mementos (also got rid of most of the remaining Aladdin themed fixtures - only entrance door handles remain). Rooms barely have any Hollywood theme at all, except the images on the doors of the armoires. But they do have refrigerators in the room (at least for the ones they place Diamond level guests in)!
@JohnnyQ:
I do have a whole page about who owns which casino. It wouldn't go on the "What's Special About Each Casino", because ownership isn't related to that concept. Some day I might have a dedicated page about each casino, which will list everything about that casino (including its ownership, and all the trivia). I also might set up the List of Casinos so that when you point to one, you get a little box that tells you things like year built, typical room rates, ownership, casino size, etc.
On the PH VP, tell you what, if you can send me two pics (one of the machine's paytable, one of the whole machine) to illustrate the article, I'll add a line item for PH on the "What's Special" page saying it's got the worst VP paytable of any Vegas casino at the $5 level that I know of.
I just discovered that my source for the data for minimum room sizes wasn't entirely accurate, especially for the low end, so I just painstakingly checked all the room sizes at each hotel's website for all the strip hotels. Soon I'll try to do the downtown and off-strip hotels. You can see who's got the smallest and biggest hotels on my Sortable List of Vegas Casinos. (You can click any column to sort it.)
And the List of Free Things to See & Do is up to 79 things.

On the expected loss calculator:
If practical, can you switch the initial value of the bet selector to $25 on some of the table games? I think this might better reflect industry trend.
Maybe also add a line for 6:5 21 games. I know they're awful, they're not "Blackjack", but they still cost the player less than some of very common gambling options.
Otherwise, my family came to inquire why I was laughing so much, which should be taken as high praise.
There's already a line for 6:5 blackjack. Have another look.
Which part did you think was the funniest? My goal is to amuse Scott Roeben (writer of Vital Vegas).
Well, for the ANNOYANCE Category, I would also propose:Quote: MichaelBluejayFinally, a new article, Worst of Vegas. Please discuss.
a) Pornslappers
b) Groups of tourists who stand in a circle blocking an entire passageway
c) Pedestrians ignoring the Cross-Walk Signs (Cars should be allowed to pull-in to a casino entrance when they have the green light !)

"Sally's critic is illiterate" and the 2/$1 bananas.
Okay, I added those.Quote: JohnnyQWell, for the ANNOYANCE Category, I would also propose:

No, I don't think anyone is gonna tell all their friends back home in Podunk about it.Quote: MichaelBluejayShould I include the rainstorm in the Miracle Miles Shops, in my List of Free Things to See in Vegas?
Quote: MichaelBluejayShould I include the rainstorm in the Miracle Miles Shops,
I must have been in the Miracle Mile Shops at least 20 times and never even noticed a rainstorm. My vote is leave it off the list.
Leave it off. My recollection is that in the old Aladdin Desert Passage days the storm was more impactful - that section of the mall got appreciably darker and cooler and the rain itself was much more notable. Current version is non-event.Quote: MichaelBluejayShould I include the rainstorm in the Miracle Miles Shops, in my List of Free Things to See in Vegas? I know many of the items in my list are also pretty underwhelming, but my thought has been, let the reader decide if they want to see it or not, since for all the things I list, *someone* would want to check out any particular item. But I'm having a hard time believing that anyone would be interested in the rainstorm. I'm on the fence, though, I could be persuaded.

It's exactly the sort of thing one of my ex-girlfriends would have loved.
Leave it off.
In other news, someone recently hit for $1M on video poker, betting a whopping $1250 a hand. That prompted me to make several changes to the Average Loss Calculator:
(1) Added large bet options for all games
(2) Added an option for 1 round per hour, in order to calculate the cost per round. Choosing that will also automatically set the number of hours to "1".
(3) Added a bunch more video poker games.
(4) Fixed a bug in the mobile version for craps.

I don't know how Wikipedia pages work, but it seems if someone has to offer you help in getting one, you might not be deserving of one yet. Is this a pay-for-play sort of thing, like Who's Who? As I said, I don't know how one gets a page. I assume there are a bunch of wise old elves living in a tree hollow with a direct line to the powers that be but are yet hidden who decide these things. Best of luck, either way. I can't see it as being life-changing either way.
Quote: Ace2If you place the 6 or 8 with max 5x odds, the overall house edge is (1 / 66 ) / 6 =~25 basis points. Is there any way to get a lower HE ?

You mean put? How do you make a place bet with odds?
That's #1 in organic results, past all the pay-per-listing ads at the very top.
(Yes, I know that Google serves different results to different users, based on their search and click history. I use a fresh cookies-deleted browser with no Google account when checking rankings.)
Thanks for that ! I like going to Vegas because it CAN be a low-cost vacation if you "play your cards right", haha.
I just made minor updates to Free Things to See in Vegas, and Things to Do for Kids.

BTW, the list of free things is up to 94 things. When I get to 99, I'm gonna be sorely tempted to add the rainstorm at the Miracle Mile shops in order to get to 100.

I was toying with doing a cash drawing for all new followers in a month, but that seems to be against Twitter's ToC.

wow.. 1 less non-mgm/caesars on the strip.Quote: MichaelBluejayBlackstone just sold the Cosmopolitan casino business to MGM. This marks the first new strip casino for MGM since it opened Aria in 2009. The change is detailed on my Casino Ownership.
1 less competitor. :(
shocked that casino royale still is independent.
Yeah, I note on my ownership page that MGM/Caesars own 18 of the Strip properties, that peak consolidation was 19 properties, in 2005, and that the lack of competition is not a good thing. :(Quote: 100xOddswow.. 1 less non-mgm/caesars on the strip.

MGM has a lot more cash now that they've been selling their real estate, so maybe they'll be buying more casino operations?
No, Deutsche Bank foreclosed on the developers before it opened. It opened in 2010, and then Deutsche sold to Blackstone in 2014. It's Blackstone that's currently selling to MGM.Quote: billryanWasn't the cosmo originally an MGM property and they had to sell it when the economy imploded back when they were building it?

• Made the whole map clickable so it can be easily printed by itself
• Added a label for Tropicana Ave., that was missing (whoops)
• Moved most of the East-West street names to the left-hand side, to make them easier to scan.
Here again, I get my best ideas from other maps. What I've done is take the best things about other maps and incorporate them into mine, so mine is the only one that has all the best stuff in one spot.
• Added the pedestrian bridges.
However, now I'm thinking they just clutter the map and don't add any real value. I'm inclined to remove them unless members argue passionately that I should leave them in. What do you think? (Especially Field Correspondent JohnnyQ.)
I don't think it hurts having the Pedestrian Bridges, but if you go to that amount of trouble, should you show the North/South ones that cross Flamingo and Tropicana ?
It doesn't matter enough to me to debate it passionately !
There are three flavors. The "Ridiculous" flavor is hilarious!
Let's move further discussion of the Slot Name Generator to the separate thread.
Quote: MichaelBluejayIn my article on Betting Systems, should I remove the example about the rattlesnake? It's interesting, but I don't think it really helps people understand betting systems better. So I'm inclined to remove it.

I think the problem with the analogy is that it doesn't explicitly state the catastrophic nature of getting the snake.
A few suggestions:
—Change it from 100 boxes to 10 (to me, it feels like there's no pressure when there are 99 good choices).
—Explain how the odds are no longer in your favor: Obviously, the odds are always in your favor for getting a $100 bill, unless there are only one or two boxes left — then you have, respectively, no chance of winning or a 50-50 chance of winning.
—Explain that you lose it all when you get the snake: …the greater your chances of walking away with money instead of getting bitten. The longer you play, the more likely you are to lose. In the case of the snake: when you get bitten, you die. In this gambling system: when you do lose, you'll lose it all.
Okay, you've helped me put my finger on what I didn't like about the analogy: In my example, the odds change the longer you play, which is *not* what happens with casino games. So I'm inclined to either remove the example or else substitute a casino one, like betting on 35 numbers on roulette.Quote: smoothgrhExplain how the odds are no longer in your favor...
