Quote: mickeycrimmJesus Christ! And I thought I was the class clown. I leave you guys alone for two weeks and there's been almost two dozen suspensions? What the hell is going on? Axiom resigned? Damn! Well, I stayed off WoV for two weeks trying to think out what I was going to do about having to read drunken posts of mine that I don't remember making. I'm on a road trip right now and, of course, cold ass sober. It's when I get home and have all that idle time on my hands that the whiskey starts flowing and Mr. Hyde comes out. Couldn't pick up a chick at the bar so I go home and give WoV'ers a dose of my drunk ass. The thing is, I hate having to read my own drunken posts the next day. It's embarrassing.
So I thought about it. And this is what I came up with. I'll see if I can live up to it. I doubt it. I'll post on WoV when I'm on road trips and absolutely won't drink. When I'm home I'm gonna totally ignore WoV. That's the only solution I can see. I'll see if I can live up to that.
Welcome back Mickey, miss a little, miss a lot around here the past week. Mike sold the site, Axiom immediately blasted Mike re: the sale and resigned, all sorts of controversy regarding donations led to multiple suspensions, B9 is nuked, Mission offered to take a suspension for someone else, Zuga (and company) are the new bosses, and Zuga issued his first suspension to Buzz.
As far as your new strategy, probably a good plan if you find the drunken posts embarrassing. For what it's worth, I was never offended by any of them and sometimes found them entertaining.
Entertaining is an understatement!
Glad you're back Mickey. I enjoy your stories. Keep telling em.

Does anyone want to talk about RonC? Approaching five years on the forum. No previous suspensions that I could find. Not one, not four and 'gulp' not six previous suspensions. None. No name calling and no profanity, including the F-word that some here routinely use.
Just when does an opinion cross the line and become an insult? Let's not forget intent. I see nothing malicious from RonC. The guy doesn't like the nuclear option and he expressed that. He attacked the nuclear option, not the creator of it.
If you want to see insults, you don't have to look far. Plenty are made every day. Some can't go one day on here without being insulted.
It's disappointing to watch the turn that this forum is taking. What other forum has a discussion of a suspension list as it's second top thread?

If Mickey is getting black out drunk and not remembering or controlling what he posts then that may be a sign of alcoholism. It is not something that should be Entertaining, IMO.
HOWEVER, I greatly enjoy his stories when he is sober and hope he continues to post while sober.

What, you don't get a kick out of watching drunks rambling nonsensically then barfing on their shoes?
Heck, you probably wouldn't enjoy rearranging the furniture at the Blind School either.

This thread isn't alive and can't follow you around like a troll. So, I don't see any excuse. You've said you don't like it more than once.
So, what are you waiting for?
Either no more excuses or admit you want to post in it and complain about it.

I clicked the link and became so confused. I was thinking you should have put a spoiler alert or made it known what clicking the link did. I unblocked the thread and saw your post again and realized it's called block thread.
Forums that do have a "suspension list thread" .... typically that thread is a top viewed thread. Some, obviously don't have a suspension thread, though..

I do think that B9 was singled out for "trolling" when more than a few others do much the same thing around here and pay a much smaller price.
I have to agree. And for proof I offer Nareed and his little "wingnut" comment. But life moves on.
I would appeal that B9 be allowed on DT even with the "universal default" rule. As he talked mostly off-topic and we have a higher tolerance with lower issues over there I think it is a fair request.

Well I certainly wasn't waiting for an ultimatum from you.
I never said I didn't like this thread which has the word discussion in it's title. That's an invitation to discuss and I assume all opinions are welcome. I learn more from this thread than the rest of the forum.
Thank you for the advice and the link. I was already aware of the block feature but it's the thought that counts. I don't block any threads or members. Since you obviously know about the block options, feel free to block me or anyone else who irritates you. If you choose to block me, go ahead and announce it to the entire forum. I really don't mind.

Well, maybe I was mistaken, but I was guessing I've seen multiple versions of the same request from you. (I'm guessing 5, or more). I figured you must want a strong response by now since you keep repeating it.
You hate the suspension list. Or the idea of the suspension list. I figure you will repeat it again. Maybe you want someone to notice.
If you just like coming up and saying it again, go ahead. I'm letting you know, someone notices. I thought maybe you needed a solution, since it doesn't appear to be going anywhere.
I mean, everyone knows it is entertaining to repeat the same message. Maybe post a picture next time about it.

No, I think 1BB's point, from what he's said numerous times, is that the Suspension List is public shaming that never goes away, and he doesn't think it's an appropriate way of administering suspensions. He's welcome to confirm or clarify that.

The sites provide a comprehensive reference for games of chance found in casinos, most of them in the US, but with a sizable amount of international information. The forum, which is a small part of one of the sites, provides for interaction between interested parties, including developers, designers, distributors, engineers, mathematicians, players, and casino workers.
Why, if you find it boring and meaningless, are you wasting so much of your time here? It doesn't need to be justified, as you're not paying for it; it just exists for its own sake, and whatever value people find in it they are welcome to enjoy through the generosity of the Wizard, and now the new owners.

more like a few months however.
The three volunteer moderators, who have no formal training, have the Herculean task of monitoring 5000 active members with 5000 different personalities, who hail from countries all over the world. I don't envy them one bit and my issue isn't really with them.
I think having an "in your face" suspension list sends the wrong message and sullies an otherwise excellent forum made up of wonderful members. Where else can you go to ask a question and have a perfect stranger drop everything and find you the answer? I also feel that the majority of the list is irrelevant. Do we really need to know that Chuck was banned on 11/13/2010? I happen to remember him but I doubt if many others do.

Sounds like a "blurb". Something which is written to overstate what it doesn't say. Here, your question, "What?" What can one actually expect to accomplish here which can't be better achieved elsewhere. Eg, if you want companionship, find a real person to put up with. A lot harder in the short term, but a lot more rewarding in the long term. Why indirectly support or "pay for" a few other persons "rice".

I'm not the one with 3699 posts, and who knows how many PM's, etc. And, it's you, yourself, who has categorized my time here as a "waste". Where did that come from? Don't look to me for that one. Existentialism won't help you either, it's the one philosophy of science explicitly not meant to help anyone in any way. All of which goes back to what I said a bit earlier about this site's not having found an actual healthy purpose. Eg, EvenBob's doing exactly the same thing in the same situation, with his jumping-in to try to save everything, over and over.
I used to post up stuff like 4ofakind, but have moved beyond. Better use of my time would be to focus on the overall picture of who's wasting a lot their time versus who's making a lot of money by it. Has the Wizard done anything truly innovative or unique? Certainly, no. Has anyone across the gambling spectrum? I don't think so.
Watching the Egyptians build the pyramids, and seeing how they did it, would have been a lot more fun that actually doing it. A monument to nothing. Individuals spending their entire lives carving and moving single boulders. How did they get people to do that? Were those people happy and productive in their own minds? What did their bosses actually get out of it?
How would any of them react to someone stepping "back in time" into the "hive" to point out what's going on as from a removed point of view?
His Odds certainly was.Quote: TaraBCHas the Wizard done anything truly innovative or unique? Certainly, no.

You make it sound as if the site was a failure.
Of course WoO is innovative. It really still is the only place to get all unbiased mathematical analysis of all table games and video games, which MIKE CREATED himself. If you are seeing it on another site, it was likely DERIVED from WoO. If it isn't on WoO, it likely isn't anywhere else, with very few exceptions. The design is easy to navigate (i am not a fan of the newer UI mind you). If the site wasn't innovative, it wouldn't have been sold for 2.3M.
As for WoV, the DB is uniquely organized and isn't an out-of-the-box "forum" builder. The UI is easy to use and navigate and isn't peppered with ads. A great deal of work is done to remove spammers and gaming ads. The people who post generally keep within the rules and are suspended if they don't. The reviews are generally pretty good, if dated now. As a result of leading gaming experts visiting and posting on the site, it has attracted a great deal of conversation around new game design, math, and such. There is also a great amount of conversation on AP play, and then there is the chaff that I usually get involved in that got shuffled over to DT. There is lots of talk to correct noobs and people who think they have system, which is great too.
So, if there was nothing innovative here, it wouldn't have been sold with WoV. DT contains nothing innovative so remains the property of Mike, Inc.
As for the suspension list, this is still Mike and Zara's house with Mike's rules, and I think what you are seeing is him (and the other mods) exercising more latitude because frankly, there is no reason for them to keep people who dissent on board. Is that fair? Think of it this way: if i walk into your house and immediately complain about the family in your house, what are the odds that I get invited back?
Most of the specific casino games, aside from poker and blackjack, were studied in the 1940's by game theorists. Certainly, most have by now, as far as the differential math goes. (Haven't seen any of that here. Likely because it's not the Wiz's "hammer"; which, he doesn't talk about in any detail here either.)

Does that make it innovative? If DT "contains nothing innovative", then it's likely that nothing else of Mike's is either. You have to think logically, not with someone's wallet.
