Could you please expunge my prior suspension, too?

That was for the infamous heifer/fatso insult.

It isn't that I'm opposed to forgiveness, or that you're not deserving of it, but it would set a bad precedent if I started expunging past suspensions. Everybody will ask for it. In Nareed's case there was some disagreement between the admins about whether "nitwit" crossed the line. In the end we decided it didn't, so it was expunged.

Sorry for being a Grinch about it.

I agree. Forgiveness for transgressions comes in the form of reinstatement of membership at the end of the sentence. The record of the trangression and sentence should remain.

In the recent "Nitwit" case, I was the "target" and agreed that I overreacted. So there really wasn't a transgression and the entry was removed from the list.

Regarding the comments about clickable urls in signature lines:

I would like them as well. If there is any inclination to include them, then I suggest some method of ranking members into three categories: Newbie, Member, Senior Member.

Newbies are those members still on anti-bot limitations. Members are newbies that have outlasted the initial limitations. Senior Members are those that have met certain criteria (duration and/or number of posts) and are allowed to put urls and other formatting code (up to a limit) in signatures.

For the record, I include urls to Dave Miller Weddings and DJ Dave Miller in the signature of the DJ forums I belong to, and Reverend Dave Miller on the church's forum.

I wish I could put an url to Poker For Roulette in my signature here. I guess I'll just have to settle for adding a link in any thread where the opportunity presents itself. Like this one. So far Mike hasn't objected to it, so I gotta say thanks for that. Thanks Mike!

---

On a somewhat unrelated note, I recently received a private message, where I spent a good 15 minuted carefully choosing the words for my reply, only to discover that the user is not accepting private messages (or has me blocked). There's 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back....

There should be a loophole that allows replies.

Why are we worried about URL's in the signature line for new posters?

If they are spammers, they will be gone in short order anyway.
If they are new to the forum, and legit, if you make it too difficult, you will drive them away before you can see their value.

I think what we have been doing has been working pretty well. Spammers get busted right away, and the newer, "Hi, I am new here" gets a short life, and then gets busted.
Let's not fix what is working.

Perhaps it does need to be spelled out better. There is already a rule against spam. I consider somebody who is obviously only posting to get his/her URL or Email in the signature as a spammer. Lately I've seen a lot of new members saying something like "Hi, I'm new here," with a URL in the signature to a commercial site, usually an Internet casino. Those posts are quickly busted and the member nuked, without even the dignity of being remembered in the suspension list.

So far your "I know it when I see it" standard has worked. I'm more for common-law than code law whenever possible. I would just request something simple. My guide would be like when you see an op-Ed in the newspaper where they mention the writers site. A short tag no more than a sentence and thu URL

Eg: have you tried the newest side bet? Casinowaronsevenout.com.

Nobody here plans on making a fortune from the link, but just allows quality back link for being a quality member.

Just my thought.

I think mkl would be a fine member of this forum, in the absence of JerryLogan and all of his sock puppets. Not only was Jerry nasty, he was outstandingly effective at getting under mkl's skin and setting him on fire.

Of course, mkl and EvenBob would still disagree on everything, but their battles (without Jerry's input) were no more violent or offensive than what goes on around here much of the time.

mkl was a nasty troll who went out of his way to intentionally insult and alienate anyone he could, regardless of whether or not they agreed with him. He could not stand to not have the last word on any subject. This forum has been much better for his absence.

I concede that mkl was/is a curmudgeon who would gripe and even argue with anyone about most anything. However, in the absence of JerryLogan, I don't think he was any worse than maybe a dozen other people who post fairly often. Just think about all the threads around here that are just petty bickering from people who like to gripe and argue. In contrast, Jerry just sent mkl way out over the edge. Regularly. He had a real knack for that.

And that was the problem -- I don't think it was possible for them to co-exist. I got amusement by posting several times that there was no single topic on which Jerry, mkl, and EvenBob could agree. Because there were three of them, you would occasionally see a semi-random two of them on the same side of an issue. Usually (but not always) it was EvenBob sorta agreeing with one or the other of Jerry and mkl briefly, with the other two being vicious to each other. EvenBob was the most clever, in that he could survive here while the others fought to their mutual demise. Jerry was banned in multiple identities -- it's hard to keep the devil dead -- and mkl resigned several times, the final (?) time in response to a short suspension.

My understanding is that mkl could return to the forum if he were to submit an un-resignation request to the Wizard. If he did that, I sense that an accompanying apology would be quite in order.

He probably is. Who cares, as long as he isn't disturbing anyone. It's like the difference between jacking off in private and jacking off in public. One, no one cares about; the other is an arrest on decency charges.

You're right, who should care. But as far as disturbing anybody, these posts could disturb one or two. And I'm not buying that Evenbob was overly clever for not being slashed. I see it as a sign of weakness that anyone who is addicted to something just isn't willing to risk by putting it on the line. If mkl123456 was chopped for whatever, I'd look up to a guy who isn't chicken to identify a superior intelligence along with being able to walk away from a bunch of anonymous pretenders.
