From a famous song.
Most babies just cry, the ones over 21 years of age, they have already stopped growing.
7craps did not name that photo, I did.
I was entering a few photos into the INFO folder and most photo names are in this format so they can be found easily by more than a few people.

Wow! No gentle reminder no warning. Straight to the three day suspension.
Does flagging still work? Could you review that process for those not familiar with it? I suspect there are many.
He's a new member who had a grand total of two posts, both of them new threads, and both of them identical, even identical typos, except for one character.
That adds up to someone who deserves the same amount of courtesy that he is giving the rest of the members. I.E. Zero.

If you peruse the posts in question, it smells like a build-up to a system that the OP, "Just discovered," which of course will cost money. I hope to be wrong on this one, but The Wizard and I have already conferred and he agrees with my decision.
I'm not sure if I have access to flagged posts yet. I'll check with JB. My hope is that, since I read every thread, I will have it covered well enough that the Members can enjoy posting here and not have to worry about flagging unwanted posts.

That would result in a Three-Day Suspension...unless he tells a joke.

Had it been an isolated post, it may well have been three days for a first time offense, but alas, I counted at least three posts in which he committed personal insult.

For creating another handle for the sole purpose of circumventing Gambit55's ban. Therefore, both Members have now been banned for life.
Perhaps it was voluntary ?
Still miss Dorothy Gale, but respect her right to leave us .
Quote: MonkeyMonkeyAnd now HotBlonde is down. Mods, are we going to have to wade through "that" thread to find the answers? :)
HotBlonde got suspended for the "sewerwater" insult. SOOPOO's suspension is addressed here.
I had a question on VP play and a question on lost opportunity caused by taxes that multiplies effective tax rates despite the low cap gains rate, but alas, all it takes is a view of this thread to discourage any re-participation. That's okay, I'm sure I'm not missed. At least, I missed the thread titled "Hi, ItsCalledSoccer."
Mike, I have a good shot at work in town, would like to grab a bite if you have a spare lunch-hour. A few things have to happen but it smells pretty good for now, I should know something more in a couple of weeks.
Would love to stay and chat but I would rather avoid the forum drama-minefield that is gender-specific pronouns, math-proud people swallowing political poll results whole without looking hard at the underlying math, and adult members who have to be cyber-separated like children.
<le sigh>
Quote: s2dbakerI'm just going to avoid that whole HotBlonde thread altogether.
So how many people have now received bans/suspensions for comments in or derived from that thread? It sure does contribute to discussions in the forum; I just am not sure that it's a contribution that we need.
Quote: Mission146I consider it immaterial, Members are responsible for the content of their own posts equally in that thread or any other.
I understand that folks are responsible for their own behavior, but there can come a time that thread is so far out of control that it would be in the best interest of the forum to close it. Not my call by a long shot (because I am not in charge of anything here) but I hope it would be at least considered.
I'm not free of the stains of the thread and I can't say how I will react if certain things that happened before happen again once everyone is back together. Just because I might have something untoward and maybe over the line to say then doesn't mean that I "want" the thread to continue.

The purpose of the thread is to track a bet. It is still serving that purpose. It is not the thread's fault people can't confine themselves to the topic.
I started a thread 3 weeks ago to try to contact Nareed and it served its purpose in one day, yet others continue to revive it even though they have no interest in contacting her. It is not that thread's fault, either.
Personal responsibility should be more than a political campaign talking point. It's assumed posters here are of legal gambling age but there are days I question that.

I understand your point, there is definitely a correlation between that thread and Members getting banned in numbers greater than usual. However, that thread is not the cause of anyone being banned, posts in that thread are, posts that do not have to be made. I would be the last person to maintain that the thread has not often been vitriolic, particularly within the last few months, but that does not generate a necessity by which individual posts must be.
I do not know whether or not The Wiz has considered closing that thread, as many of these issues predate me being an Administrator of this Forum, but I can say that I have not even remotely considered it. It's not that closing the thread wouldn't have some benefits, it would, but the necessity of the thread being closed, in my opinion, would be a bigger black eye on this Forum than the thread and associated bans themselves.
I certainly hope that nobody else steps over the line in that thread, of course.
Quote: WizardThe fact that it has so many posts also indicates people enjoy it.
Its like watching a long train wreck, you can't not watch.
I saw a train wreck in 1967. An empty boxcar on a long
train was in between two loaded cars, and when the train
jerked, the loaded cars lifted the empty one off the tracks
and it derailed. It took 22 cars with it, all careening in
slow motion down an embankment. A whole lot of noise
was followed by silence. Probably the most surreal thing
I ever saw. Took them weeks and weeks to clean it up.
He finally can't take it anymore, sees a knot hole, stops and looks through. A finger pokes him in the eye!

14, 14, 14. Got another one this morning.
The HB Challenge thread has generated an extremely large number of posts, #2 of all time in the forum. It has also resulted in the (temporary) silencing of some prolific posters. So ... overall, has the presence of the thread (and its various repercussions) resulted in an increase or decrease in the total number of posts in the forum? How about over just the past couple of months? How many posts in other threads would Nareed alone have made during the past few weeks if she had not been suspended?
Note: If I thought these questions were important, I would have started a separate thread. ;-)
You were supposed to control this cool space ship through an asteroid field and shoot asteroids, making smaller asteroids until they were all gone and then start over.
Simple enough. But then if you get to a point where there are not so many asteroids left, it was easy not to be killed by just enjoying flying around and extend the length of play.
So then there is the space ship. And the spaceship tries to enforce the rules "don't just fart around wasting time, you're supposed to be shooting asteroids."
Very rigid rules, and the underlying assumption was that this spaceship could kick you ass.
But in truth, destroying the spaceship made much more points per unit time than shooting asteroids and if you mastered killing the spaceship, your chances of dying per unit time decreased as well. Then you get free men and can play EVEN LONGER.
And of course points were how you succeeded in the game.
Although this wasn't the intention of the game, this is what the game became, and many people learned from observation how the game was played by the experts who had the highest scores.
But asteroids were more of a temporary annoying that might kill off a free man or two until you could kick the saucers ass and keep a tally of free men so far across the screen that the game couldn't even handle drawing all your ships, exploiting a bug that slowed the game down even further making it simpler not to die when shooting the asteroids.
Asteroids deluxe fixed all of these issues, but for whatever reason, the popularity of the game had more to do with exploiting the limitations of how the rules were enforced in the previous game, not the original intent of shooting asteroids.
This forum is called "Wizard of Vegas." You get on here to talk about Vegas and gambling, and you end up getting attacked and defend yourself, then when you break the rules in your defense, you realize the website isn't really about gambling. It's about the social aspects of people who spend a great amount of time following a rule-based system of who is allowed to be here and who isn't. The discussions about gambling and about Vegas are sort of just what is supposed to be happening here. But the real content of what goes on is more of a drama where you have to know who is who and who did what to who and who was successful at getting someone else to break a rule that kept them from posting and so on.
Just a newcomer's observations. A newcomer who still doesn't really know who is who and who did what to who and who would really just like to shoot asteroids instead of chase flying saucers around, but has become one of the best flying saucer shooters there is because that is how the game is played.

If directed at a member here, it wouldn't surprise me. If referring to a celebrity or other well known person, probably not.

May I ask you a question? Was there a specific reason that you changed your screen name from buzzpaff to Buzzard? Are you able to post on both or has your former moniker been deactivated?
My reason for asking is that some 13 months ago I awakened one morning unable to log on to the forum. After determining that the problem was not with my computer and after a week of reaching out to the forum to no avail I was forced to change my screen name.

I think we need a rigid interpretation of the insult rule. What JW17 said was "you SOUND LIKE..." That's different than "you ARE"
Insult by analogy happens here every day, and it goes unpunished. Evenbob does it so much that the move could be named after him. Why the suspension this time?

I can see your point rdw4potus, but I can also understand the suspension. I don't recall EB ever dropping an F bomb along with an analogy.
He could have made the same point a hundred different ways, and not gotten suspended, but the statement was like a 40 lb sledge hammer to drive a 10 penny nail. A bit of overkill, IMO.

That goes for the original statement in this case as well. If someone walked into a room containing young craps novices and went off like that, a sucker punch would be likely to occur then as well.
