Mickey Crimm obviously had issues with alcohol .... but I think death threats are about the most egregious violation on a forum, regardless of anyone’s sobriety.

Allow those previously banned to post there, and there only, subject to current forum rules.

No comment allowed on any other threads by them.

If they err again, bounce 'em.

Ah, the box.

To make it boxier, if possible disallow non-registered lurkers the ability to view their posts; fix it so only registered members can read what they say and also post there.

That way if they go bonkers and piss all over the walls only registered members will get wet, and they know enough to wear a raincoat before entering.

Since you mentioned MC's name. I thought you might have been talking about him as well, I even started typing his name along with Larry's, but I quickly hit backspace.

This issue, suspending for questioning the soundness of someone's mental health, is a bit of a tar baby.

Why would a statement of opinion of another's physical health, e.g. "I think your leg might be broken" be OK, but questioning one's mind "I think you have major psychological issues" be unacceptable?

Both question health; why the onus as to mental health?

A broken leg is obvious to anyone with eyes. But not a particular psychological affliction. Ironically, by considering the latter a matter of insult, we insult the psychologically ill in general.

Gambling possibly creates moods people wouldn't have otherwise have, could mimic mental illness. If someone loses a lot of money or wins a lot recently, they're going to be thinking and acting differently. Especially if they become broke and depressed, they might spend more time here, because they can't gamble, so you'll think something is wrong. Had things been good, they might not even be around, too busy, and you wouldn't know how they're acting to see their other side.

It looks like business is good for this thread so far this year.

In Alan Mendelson's case, the exact opposite happened -- instead of people getting suspended because he felt like he was insulted, he was basically told it doesn't matter if he feels like he was insulted, tough luck.

Let's just say the Mods were not put in a good situation. from BBB's and Mission's response it doesn't seem that this had anything to do with them being biased, it looks like they wanted to let it slide. It seems like they had a choice, give someone a 3-day suspension for something that may have been borderline, or risk losing a long time member who is usually respectful.

IIRC we lost AOS(one of my favourite posters of all time) because the mods didn't do enough to defend him. That was a big loss to this forum. Attracting new members is great, but let us not lose old ones for something like this, especially when a simple suspension will work. I'm sure AZ can handle it either way.

People might want to be careful. At some point, Mike might say he's had enough and just close down all the political threads. I think they keep them as a courtesy to us. I don't think they help this site gain online casino customers, and I don't think there are many long-time posters here that are hitting up online casino bonuses.

I did go over this, and I'll say again - I, Face, with no input or permission requested, unilaterally stated a relaxed state of correction in the political discussion thread. Look for it, it's in there somewhere. I did it out of a genuine desire to allow discussion of what I thought was a very important topic. However, at this point in time, as I stated, I feel that the thread has devolved into a bit of a sniping pit, with little intelligent discussion and a fair amount of jab throwing. In other words, I feel it's a net negative, boymimbo's impressive posts notwithstanding. As I feel there is little fruitful discussion, so do I feel there is no longer a need to lax the rules in an effort to affect revelation. In other words, the thread is no longer different than any other, and is subject to the same level and type of moderation.

The rest of your post is well done, and if there is error, it escapes me. In fact, you can add me as #3, as I've also heard the expression and knew its intent the moment I saw it. In fact-fact, had I not been exposed to tring's conduct and candor for years, I might have been looking to suspend HIM as a trouble maker and pot stirrer, as his reaction struck me as so foreign so as to be fake. But in the end, I think Babs can finish this better than I ever could...

Here Babs nails dead balls on the issue. Someone was offended and the opportunity to allay that offense was kicked in the gutter. That's not what we want. I know there's a sect in here that hates PC; I include myself in that group. But this site does aim to be just that. It aims to be welcoming.

Remember when I wished death upon Jeff Bezos and a member "took offense"? I was incredulous over that; "my world" involves wishing death and threatening pain on people a majority of the day. If someone in my RL took offense, I'd likely laugh dead in their face and invite them to f#$% off back to the 'burbs. But this isn't my real life. This is WoV, where there are rules and a code of conduct. To be honest, "my wants" never even entered my mind. When someone showed what appeared to be real offense, I couldn't fix it fast enough. All we're asking is some effort to do the same. And the following is a great reason why...

I thank you on behalf of my cohorts for your entire post. Support like this is appreciated, and I think you've got our intentions pretty well stated.

But I just have to say, and it is no way meant to be offensive to you, but... I killed myself for AoS. I cannot remember the amount of PM's just he and I had, but I can and will tell you I spent an easy 6 of his last months working on his issue every day, not only pulling in some of our more computer savvy WoV members, but using personal friends and even the IT dept of where I was employed in an attempt to assuage his fears and find some way to protect him. I not only exhausted every single avenue I could think of, but I continued working on this at least 8 months after he left, trying everything I could to do right by him even when it looked the game was already over.

I broke my ass for AoS. I was simply too ignorant in tech to make up for with effort, and I failed.

I am so glad to be back! :) The sad thing is, I had a bad feeling about posting the thread that got me suspended for a week even before I posted it. Whatever logical brain I had BEGGED me not to post it saying,"There is already a thread mentioning this and you are the OP and it's not even a month old. It's a bad idea to post it! Don't do it!" My stupid self dismissed my bad feeling and posted it anyways and not only did it end up being closed shortly after, it got me suspended. Lesson of the day. Listen to your logical brain ;)

Just so you know, I was not pointing any fingers at you or any moderator. TBH I don't even remember how it all went down. I just recall him saying something along the lines of, you guys chose a troll/sockpuppet over me.

If I had to guess, that was not the only reason he left, I think it was a myriad of things(not just stuff on WOV). That may have just been the tipping point for him. I have a feeling, sooner rather than later he would have found his way out. IIRC he had a history of leaving and coming back a few times?

Thanks for providing some incite into your life and why you act like you do. I do hope you find what you seek though many of the minimum wage type jobs you are looking at now pay above that due to a lack of qualified candidates.

People need to stop listening to THEY and start thinking for themselves. There is no guaranteed roadmap to success. Just because you think your special means absolutely nothing.

Let me see if I understand this:

Tringlomane complained about being offended by a post by AZDuffman, to which both Babs and I responded stating that the intent was not to offend.

However, BBB realized that there was clear opportunity for AZD to explain himself and apologize to Tringlomane on the grounds that Tringlomane took offense to his post, but AZD did not take that option. At least, not directly.

My initial post on the matter was just the first two paragraphs of the post that is currently there, explaining why I did not see an insult there. I saw that Babs had fired off a post before me issuing a three-day Suspension to AZD for the causes she stated. While it is pretty clear that I would not have issued a Suspension, I saw here reasoning and agreed with it enough (it's only three days, anyway) not to challenge the Suspension behind the scenes.

Basically, not a Suspension I would have made, but also not one that I, per se, disagreed with. I wasn't really considering how Tringlomane took it, just whether or not I saw an insult there. (I didn't.)

Now, despite the fact that AZD was Suspended, we have Tringlomane flying off the handle and Suspending himself for a month because he was accused of Trolling by RS as well as the fact that several others disagreed with the Suspension over what us Mods already acknowledged wasn't meant as an insult.

So, now Tring has apparently Self-Suspended until March 1st, wonderful. Oh well, his choice.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to also ask RS to provide whatever prove he has to back up his assertion that Tring/Terapined were Trolling, in his opinion. I don't know that it's an Insult, but making unsubstantiated accusations would definitely qualify as Trolling/Bullying in its own right, so I'm going to give RS 48 hours to post up whatever his, "Proof," is, from the time this post goes up.

I'm not going to require that I actually agree with RS about it, just that there actually be something that could reasonably lead RS to saying that.

As far as the, "Loose," Moderation of that thread, I still recuse myself from Moderating that thread (even though I've been participating lately) unless I see something really blatant.
