If there are going to be casinos in Virginia, it will be in up to 5 particular places only for now that have to be OK'd by local referendum. The state wants the tax money but these 5 places are generally depressed economically for various reasons compared to the rest of the state.
The advocates will say the casinos will help the localities economically by providing jobs etc.
Those against it will say gambling addiction and other problems will make things worse instead of better.
How do you come down on all this?

Not a gambling question, but a game show one...
Wheel of Fortune added the "$1 Million wedge" to the wheel in 2008. My question is, does having this wedge on the wheel benefit the contestants in terms of EV?
This was actually the subject of my first post here back in 2014. I was thinking it would be a good Ask The Wizard question for the WoO site, but at the time, the WoO directed me to ask it in the WoV forum.
I initially got some replies, but didn't get any definitive answers. I ended up taking a shot at answering my own question on the last post in that thread, and came to the conclusion that the addition of the $1 Million wedge was decidedly -EV for the contestants. However, looking back at my work, I can see one error, as well as several WAG assumptions.
If my conclusion is indeed correct, I think that's pretty crummy of Wheel to add a feature that hurts the contestants' earning potential, yet tout it as something desirable. That seems like the MO of shady casinos, not legit game shows.

I noticed looking at your WoO site, "oscar's grind" compared to the Labouchere system, in Bacc the Grind has a 99.46% chance of working with 250 units, while the Labo system has a 99.45% chance with 2500 units, a pretty big difference.
So, two questions,
* Upon reflection I guess it is not correct to think of the 99.45 or 99.46% to be the same thing as "return" , but can you go into that, as in: why not? If n is the number of trials, does the chance of a successful session and 'return' tend to converge as n increases? [edited]
* do you ever consider one system better than another? It kind of seems like you can say that here with these two.

I would guess over 99% of all gamblers are avoiding claiming all of their wins on taxes.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

I would think that this would only apply to part-time AP's.
