All the above is just speculation, probably BS.
You obviously don't know about the ways one can make money from a website that gets a lot of traffic.
Good old facepalm, why dont YOU explain to the rest of us why its BS and what their plans are?? You seem to have all the answers and love to tell people when they are wrong. And that head of yours must be sore as hell from all the facepalms.
Yea B9 has been trolling me and stalking me due to me blocking him.
B9 does not like being ignored.
He realizes he has to troll really hard to get somebody to repost or I will never read it.
Please everybody, if you see B9 trolling me, don't repost his comments, not being able to read his posts is bliss.

Quote: MichaelBluejayLet's insert some reality here.First of all, the Wizard was never in dire straits, and he never said he was.
No, he didn't claim he was "in dire straits."
He posted: "The last time I was in financial trouble and asked for donations the number of people in the entire world that made one was two. I'm hoping to beat that record this time."
He claimed he was in "financial trouble."
They're pretty much the same thing in my book.
When a seemingly proud man is reduced to publicly begging for money, there is obviously something amiss.
As for the sale for 2.3M being an unexpected windfall: I don't think so.
Surely he participated in the negotiations which led to the sale, and he probably asked for an even higher figure while negotiating, before reaching agreement.
I doubt he was shocked to realize that amount of money; hell, he's an actuary, he has an attorney, and he's nobody's fool.

Does life (as who they are) for the winner(s) change after the lottery? No, not except for a lot of new "supporters" who want to join in on the old for a piece of what was once a "tin cup".
I think, under the circumstances, the original donors ought to be reimbursed a hundred fold.

Yes, it does.
Not always for the better."What, me worry?"

I concede that (B) is subjective, and it's hard to quantify "BS" in a post. I'm definitely not guilty of (A) though.
Seriously that's so disrespectful of a statement.Quote: MrV

I never seen it as begging, he asked for us to support the sites he offers to us for free, I believe his BV contract ended and no income was being generated on this forum. (not that it ever really did)
He's a good guy who got caught in a financial bind, and then deus ex machina.
The American dream.
Quote: AxelWolfI find it suspicious your hiatus ended when AX left.
It was completely coincidental that I decided to read a bit of the board just after he left. I had done that only once or twice since I left, and truly had lost interest...and I left because I am just not happy with what goes on here. Him leaving is why I decided to post; he was the poster I personally respected the most (whether I showed it or not); and finally he felt similar to I did at a certain point, and I didn't feel alone. So perhaps you are suspicious because you observed a cause and effect relationship. However, if you are implying I am him, you are on crack.

To Michael: congratulations and my best wishes for the future. As we discussed in PMs some weeks ago, the conventional advertising model that most sites work under would not have generated the income you need.
To Zuga and company/partners: congratulations and my best wishes for the future. You obtained some fine sites and the best in the business with Michael continuing to work for you.
To my fellow forum members: chill out.
As I wrote on my own website forum, I wonder if this sale will help to raise values and bids for other websites?
Question for Zuga: you were here for several months prior to the time of the sale. Your forum ID says:

Obviously your company was shopping around. During the time you were looking, I am curious what you liked best about these sites (we know you like Michael) and how you will grow those assets? Going mobile not only helps this site but also helps boost ad value, and the value of link building as the entire Internet moves towards reaching the mobile market.
And of course the big question is this: did you make this purchase in anticipation that online gaming in the US will become nationwide and not just within certain state borders? Curiously, just a short time before this purchase was announced, a marketing company representing online casino sites in New Jersey started to advertise on my site which caters to a California audience.

Yes indeed we were/are always looking to purchase other websites ( already done several acquisitions in the last few yrs ). And when we learned that the Wiz is having some financial issues ( I believe was something about his funds being locked in Cyprus ) we decided to approach Mike and see if hes interested in doing business. ( I believe it was the end of May / beginning of June ).
And yes we were already familiar with WOO, but to be frank not so much with WOV . What we always liked about WOO was the amount of useful info in regards to strategies and casino games. WOO was always the go to place for this.
Personally Ive known about WOO since the early 2007 when I started playing BJ online and it was thanx to WOO site where I learned the basic BJ strategy.
So in a way Im thankful to Mike, as within the first year of my blackjack bonus whoring Ive made more than 10K EUR playing online ( which was pretty good money for a Uni drop out ). I still keep that basic BJ strategy chart printed. Kind of a reminder of my humble beginnings :)
WOO is an authority website , with a lot of traffic. So our plan is to monetize the site(s) better, which means that we will make some dedicated sections to online gambling but also re-organize those existing pages / online reviews.
WOO and WOV sites will remain the same in terms of the source of information , esp since The Wiz is now working for us and will keep on doing his magic.( pun intended )
What we gonna do is related to marketing , and doing site improvements.

Yes we are already working on making the sites mobile friendly ( responsive design ).

Actually no, because as I already mentioned ,it was just the timing, having Mike's announcement about his finances and asking for donations that got our attention.

WOO is a heavily-used site. In the industry, it is the go-to resource on gambling games and their math; if a game doesn't have an entry, it isn't considered above the radar. I hope Zuga will be at G2E with Mike (I assume he will) for the purposes of continuously keeping WOO fresh and up to date with the sea of games that'll keep the players and industry knowledgeable. As for us, WOV is a gamblers' chat board, and is a nice home for us members, but I think the general gamblers and the industry want to stay abreast of the technical details that'll give them an edge, if possible, - although our opinions and musings at WOV are sometimes reviewed, especially on new games discussed. But really, casino games are technical inventions, and reviewing the blueprints of them on WOO are vital for so many. Mike created a monster in that regard, a Library of Congress or an Amazon.com of casino games and methodology.

The Wiz has to be saying to himself, "You gotta be sh*t'n me, I can't believe the guy paid that."
The other guy thought, "Man, what a deal, something to exploit to get business up again."

Quote: AxelWolfIt must be the end of times at the site after all. Because, I agree with you Bob.
MichaelBluejay don't hate me for saying this. I don't think it was your intentions but...
The way it sounded. Mikes website success was mainly because of you. And once you went on to other things, it failed.
Well, that's essentially correct. The only time the site earned a lot of income was when I was monetizing the adspace. That's not coincidence. And I'm sure the Wizard would agree. In any event, I couldn't tell the financial history of the site without, you know, telling the financial history of the site.
But note a couple of things I said in my post: First, after the Wizard split from his first partners and sold the adspace himself, he made way more than his old partners generated for him--more than the median U.S. income. Most people would consider that successful. I would. Second, the Wizard was able to sell the site for way more than the sales I generated would typically justify. So, that's very successful, no matter how you slice it. He wasn't that great at monetizing the adspace, but he *did* create an incredible asset from scratch and then sold it later for millions. That's nothing to sneeze at. I'm not sneezin'.
Here's a question I don't think has been addressed yet:
We know DT wasn't included in the sale, but what about WoM and/or LA ?
Just curious...

eta: the article doesn't say it, but I read it somewhere.

That article was mentioned earlier, at least once without a link. Of course that was the only time I noticed mention of it.
Funny thing is, I STILL can't find it by surfing WoO...

If the Wiz started his consulting business back up after leaving the Venetian, would either the following happen?
1) Would the Wiz have looked for buyers?
I say no.
even if WoO was no longer making any $, he was working and having $ to cover his expenses.
WoO would then revert back to the original form of it just being a fun passionate hobby.
2) 2yrs after having successfully rebuilt his consulting business and someone offered 2 commas for WoO, would the Wiz sell?
Tougher question. I don't know?
Note that the site made more than it was possible to make from consulting, even if he'd consulted full-time. With consulting you're essentially trading hours for dollars (even if you charge by the project than by the hour), which limits your income because they're only so much you can charge per hour (or per project) and because you have only so many hours per year to work. That's why doctors, for example, can become rich but generally not super-rich. The super-rich make their money by other means than trading hours for dollars.
Quote: MichaelBluejayThe super-rich make their money by other means than trading hours for dollars.
I believe the saying is, you'll never get rich
by working for a living. By having a job, by
working for somebody else. I knew a guy
years ago who was very rich and and when
people would ask how he got so wealthy, he
would say he did it the old fashioned way, he
inherited it.

Yeah, no one ever got rich being a 'wage slave'. Though would top level lawyers be an exception to this? They charge by the hour don't they?
Quote: ShineyShineYeah, no one ever got rich being a 'wage slave'. Though would top level lawyers be an exception to this? They charge by the hour don't they?
They do charge by the hour, but they don't get rich until they make partner. Then they get a piece not only of their own hourly, but of everybody else's. And they get really rich when they file a class-action, get a lot of clients, and get a percentage of everybody's settlement/judgment x 1000 or however many clients.
