$2.35mil is a very nice sum and well-deserved!!!
Now, to the selfish questions:
What about our profiles and/or real names/identities?
I implicitly trusted Mike with this information - what is our fate now?
I assume they will appoint their own ADMINS
Does the purchaser have affiliations with any brick and mortar casinos that might be interested in our identities hereon?
Sorry for these questions :) Just doing my due diligence

What? How did he ever get that donation out of me? [g]
*turning off smartass mode*
Congratulations, Wizard!
As Ace stated sad for the selfish reasons in wanting nothing to change.
Thanks for everything, Wizard and CONGRATS!

Sounds like we need a celebration party in Vegas,
Drinks on Mike? Dinners on Mike? At 2.3 mil, I think its fair. How about going for it, the Bachanal :-)
How about it Mike, drinks and dinner party to reward us for the member posts on this board.
So now the site is owned by an online casino conglomerate?
Funny how life works: one month Mike is waving his tin cup for spare change, and now (by implication, at least) he's a millionaire.
I don't quite know yet how I feel about the new owner realizing some financial gain from the forums: it was cool when it was just Mike, because he's a real guy, a mensch; but a nameless, faceless corporation is another thing entirely.
Anyway, well played, Mike.
*Ka-ching*

This is my concern too. I think I'm done here.
The secondary reaction is: what will happen to this site? It is easy to say no changes are anticipated, but that is harder to make happen. I also share the concern about my personal information and I hope that is addressed shortly.
Nothing every stays the same...
but...I'm in Vegas the next four days if Mike wants to buy me dinner!!
I really hope the quality of this forum doesn't decay. It always motivated me that there was a real man behind the curtain, and that my contributions would improve his site.

Ditto. I've enjoyed participating here, but I don't think continuing to do so will be very beneficial. I weigh every decision in terms of risk vs reward and the needle has just moved.
Congrats to Mike tough. Well deserved payday for his hard work.
Have to consider now personal info changing hands so maybe bon voyage.

Yeah, good for him. Now he has money and spammers have all of our information, including every PM that we have ever sent.
Thanks Mike! Enjoy your money.
Good luck Mike.
Like we say in Italian ... Ciao ...

What's everyone worried about? What information can they gather that could be detrimental to anyone. An e-mail address?

Hahahahaa! Nah, he sold the traffic his websites gather. Your information, and the 1000's of sign ups here are not worth millions. The traffic probably is.
EDIT : Total Members: 8,372 - $280 per member? Ha!

I find this humorously ironic.
Nearly everyone on this forum knows more than I do about the internet and privacy protection.
I mean I am an analog man in a digital world, but I still know better than to expose info to anyone I haven't personally shook hands with on the internet for crying out loud. It amazes me how good at this many of you are.
Did not you all see the data mining from the "cloud". Keeriminee sakes. It has been on the news on every outlet [including Fox, nbc's, democracy now, and probably even rush friggin limbaugh] for years, if it is digitally broadcast on any leg of a transmission it is recorded and no longer private.
There are people here who make a living ap'ing, good grief.
I read a news forum. Two guys were arguing about who had the best internet kung-fu and one of them came on and told the other guy his name and street address and asked if his opponent wanted to continue? Shortly after it was scrubbed and I never heard from the second place contender again.
The mass data storage center in Utah is supposed to come on line this month. I get a trade journal from people working out there, at least that part of it isnt a conspiracy theory.

Exactly. Never let it be said that anyone is above someone like this. Everyone has a price. Be careful of who you trust.

This is not good.
Mike…?

I pretty much accept that the government knows everything about everyone. I don't like it but it's the world we live in.
But when we signed up for this site we put our trust in someone who was supposed to be trustworthy. The word integrity gets thrown around a lot. I guess it's not a matter of if someone has integrity, but how much. Most people would probably sell us out for $100. At least we got sold out for a couple of million!
Quote: rdw4potusRegistration does not require a name, let alone your real name. What info stored here would be saleable?
email addresses. Also many people here pm personal information for the purposes of meeting up, or just communicating outside of PM.

unless Mike lied in the past, he has said that he has no access to PMs. However, I am sure a smart web designer would be able to figure out how to get access. What if you all just delete your PM history. That is if they haven't already done some kind of preemptive data capture.

WoO is the money-making site, not this one. Without WoO, I doubt there would have been any interest at all.
BTW, even though I agree with everyone's concerns about privacy, let's not get carried away with the paranoia...lol
spend X amount, you expect to get x amount
back over the next 3 years, usually. Because
the company who now owns
these sites buys online casinos. all the ad's
will be related to that, I'm sure.
This was a brilliant move by the Wizard. Get paid for WoO and WoV, and get more traffic on DT as a result. ;)

Mike said that he and the admins don't read them, not that they can't.
Of course they can be read. They are stored in plaintext in a fucking database. You don't need a "smart web designer", you just need someone with access to the database and some kind of a basic clue about which end of a computer is up.
In any system where you can recover your password, it's not possible to make them unreadable. In a system where you can't recover a forgotten password, it's possible, but a pain in the ass.
Quote: GWAEunless Mike lied in the past, he has said that he has no access to PMs.
Anyone who owns a site has access to every single thing that takes place on their site. Every owner could read every single pm that ever went through the site.
Edit - Axiom above me posted while I was typing.
EvenBob, it's so obvious that you are an internet troll, it's not funny. How anyone falls for your bullshit is beyond me. The only thing that is even more surprising than that is that you have not been nuked yet. I will truly never understand that one. You must have something on someone with power around here. It's the only possible way.
Occasionally, you are funny, but mostly, you are an asshole. And probably a 27 year old virgin living in his parents' basement.
Early leader in the clubhouse.....AxiomOfChoice, but by no means the course record, and plenty of players still on the course.

I'm going to address just this (not the sale) from my knowledge, and I could stand corrected from JB and Wizard. Admins do not have any access to PM's. We do not have access to passwords. We are able to edit and delete publicly posted threads and posts to a thread to a limited extent; we are not able to edit polls.
It is possible that JB can recover a forgotten password, I suppose, but my best understanding is that he cannot; when someone forgets one, he verifies their ID via the email they originally used to sign up and other processes, then allows for a password reset. I could be wrong about this. JB can, with some work, port/graft one ID's posts into another. (I found that out during the "AcesandEights" duplication). Regular admins can not do these things.
I am not aware of any future intent or past activity in selling or marketing any forum member info to any third party or new owner. But that's getting beyond my knowledge of how the deal is structured, so I'll leave that to Mike.
Please accept my congratulations, Mike, on the sale.
I see the Wiz is on the site right now.
Probabbly reading this thread, I am hoping for a post from the Wiz.
(Or he left his browser open on this site and not at his computer)
Congrats Mike I heard this rumor last week and was waiting for it to play out. You earned it for all your hard work. Happy to see you are staying on board.
