I was happy with the outcome. I had Arkansas + 7 and I also root against Rick Pitino.
Tonight I have:
Tennessee -5
Houston -5
Drake + 7.5
I like the Raptors at home - 120 over the Spurs
Fox and Webanyama are out for the Spurs
Spurs have lost 9 of their last 11 road games usually by a lot of points
Raptors are certainly not a good team but they're much better at home than the Spurs are on the road

Quote: billryanThe Big East Tournament was my go-to weekend. It started with a quadruple header on Friday, followed by two games on Saturday, then Championship Sunday and the Selection Show. My fraternity had chapters at all the Big East schools, so we'd somehow squeeze in a few activities beyond the B-Ball.

I went to every game of the first tourney. I only have vague recollections now.
I remember the 1983 tourney more. Especially the first game. It was a 9 versus 8 play in game. Me and my friend were there with a few thousand Providence and Seton Hall fans. There were very few of us non affiliated fans in the mostly empty building.
I’ve gone to a few NCAA tourney games. Frankly, if you don’t have a rooting interest in one of the schools playing it’s less exciting than most on campus games.

My friends son is an assistant coach for Florida. Go gators! And next year they have the 7 foot 9 inch kid playing. I’ll try and go to a few games. (Older son also lives in Gainesville)

someone needs to check RJ Lewis's bank records. I think they'll find a few unexplained deposits. I'm not a Pitino fan, but St Johns has always been " my school" even though I never attended. I've been going to their games since they were the Redmen.

Back then, the NCAA field was much smaller, so the NIT tournament that immediately followed the Big East Tournament at MSG offered some great matchups.
At one point, the National Invitational Tournament was bigger and more prestigious than the NCAA Champions Tournament, as it was then known.

In my mind they are still the Redmen and Louie Carnesecca is still the coach.
They quickly went from 32 to 40 and then expanded almost yearly to 64. What is it now? 72 teams? 96 teams?

When I was growing up, there was a kid in my grandmother's neighborhood who was thought to be destined to be a star. His name was William Schaeffer and I believe he was the NYC Player of the Year his Junior year. He was recruited by Notre Dame, Marquette, Boston and several West Coast teams, but Lou Carnesecca convinced him to play for St. Johns. It was a shock as St Johns was not a powerhouse and didn't even have dorms at the time.
It was Carnesecca's first big recruiting win, so what happens? Carnesecca takes the job as head coach of the NY Nets and leaves St Johns.
Schaeffer went on to be an All-American, but struggled a bit in the NCAA his senior year and slips out of the first round in the draft. The Nets take him in the second round and a big deal is made about how he'll finally play for Lou Carnessca.
Except, that summer, Carnesecca quit the Nets and returned to coaching St. Johns. Schaeffer struggled with the pro game and was a bit player for a few seasons. The Nets were ABA champs when they drafted him, and won the title after trading him mid-season. Because he was on the Nets roster the year they won the ABA title, he was given a ring but he never wore it.

Interesting. I don't remember Carnesecca coaching the Nets. As I just looked it up I am not surprised that I don't remember it, I was four years old at the time.

Raptors seem to be forfeiting. No Poeltl. No Dick (yes, that’s his name). No Ingram. And the cherry on top. No Quickley. Quickley is their quality point guard. What’s his injury? ‘Rest’. I kid you not. A young, superbly conditioned NBA speedster is on the injury report listing his injury as ‘rest’. Barely an NBA team. Only down 25 or so as I type this.

Carnesecca signed up to coach the Nets, but St John's wouldn't release him for a year. Lou worked as the St. Johns coach and the Nets unofficial GM that last year, His first official act when he took over was signing Rick Barry, the current NBA scoring champion.
