I know there are a few NHL fans on this site...

Boston laid an egg tonight to end the season.

Lots of interesting stories this postseason and a seemingly wide open race for the Stanley Cup. I am no hockey expert but I do enjoy watching every now and then. I have a small futures bet on the WAS Caps to win it all (@15-1). I am a bandwagon fan. I hope Grubauer in goal can lead to a different result in this post season.

Nashville seems very solid out of the Western Conference. I am pretty sure one Jets fan here may feel like they have a chance,

How bout them Vegas Golden Knights? How far can they go?

Who you got?

Been an Islander fan since there very first season but am more of a casual fan now. I suspect I'll time my visits to some local sports bars to coincide with the Knights.
My HS football team was the Golden Knights, and in college it was the Gold Eagles. It had been the Golden Eagles but they changed for some reason.

Go Jets Go!

They are young and hungry. Best top 3 lines in the league and if Hellybuyck can play as well in the playoffs as he did all year then the Jets have as good a shot as anyone. Yes I’m a fan but I truly believe all that.

Btw the Jets have the second best record (points) in the NHL and still don’t win their division. Tough luck lol.

lol no hard feelings, we still got 11 rings. I was raised by an O's fan. We went to a lot of Spring and Single A Yankees games, to root for the other team..So i never really had a baseball team to cheer for until i moved to STL

I was at every Stanley Cup Playoff game for the Islanders their first Stanley Cup win. Before the internet, a friend asked me if I wanted to go, and he was willing to camp outside the Colosseum to buy the few tickets that were for sale to the general public.
I would say this year there are good reasons to pick a dozen or so of the 16 teams. No real favorite. If you made me pick a team I'd guess I'd go with the Penguins, as Mr. Crosby seems to know how to win them Cups.

I live and die with the Red Sox, it’s an unhealthy obsession. It’s been tough watching the games in Asia as they start between 12-7am but I’ve watched a ton already. I watch or listen (XM radio) to about 120-150 Red Sox games a year. That will tell just how insane I am about them.

I love the Jets but hockey was never huge with me growing up because the original Jets left when I was 5. I’ve gotten really into it the last 7 years though and I’m excited with how good they look this year.

Damn rights we do! I have been to hundreds of professional sporting events and our crowd is the best I’ve seen. I went the last time we made the playoffs and the crowd was electric even though we were down 3-0 in the series to the Ducks.

Boston will win the cup. They laid an egg in the last game to rest players and so they could play Toronto. Boston made a few deals to set this team up. They have the best goal tending and they acquired Rick Nash. Made a bet in Feb at 10-1 at the Gold Coast.

My Ducks somehow managed to go from questionable playoff participant to 2nd in the Pacific thanks to a melt down by SJ...geez if the Kings had managed to beat and already out of the playoffs Stars team on Saturday, the Sharks would have ended up being the Wild Card opponent for VGK.

I think your Jets would crush us this year PG. Hoping we can somehow get out of the first round as this year has been an injury riddled roller coaster ride in Anaheim.

If we get Gibby back in net to start the series, we might get past the Sharks...I think that will set up a LAK v. Ducks 2nd round as I believe VGK stubs their toe in the franchise’s first playoff series against an experienced LAK’s club. Time will tell but it is once again “the most wonderful time of the year”!!

PG, no idea how you can be a rabid Jets/NHL fan and have the patience to watch the grass grow during a 162 game MLB season...yawn.

Money. The Canadian dollar was extremely bad at the time. They were bringing in Canadian dollars and paying out American. Also the owner of the team didn’t own the arena so he wasn’t getting any of the food income.

Basically the new owner of the Jets is one of the richest people in the world and is happy to spend money. Also he owns the arena too and we get all the big name concerts because we have a nice arena.

Hockey in Phoenix doesn’t work very well, hockey in Carolina hasn’t worked very well, hockey in Miami hasn’t worked very well....but not sure you can say the same about LA, Anaheim, Dallas, Tampa Bay...and while it is early, it is hard to argue Vegas hasn’t been extremely successful...hockey succeeds when you have rich owners that are passionate about the game and don’t mind losing $$...sounds like you have that in WPG now, it now exists in Carolina, Vegas, Anaheim and Tampa Bay.

If Calgary & Ottawa don’t get their act together around a new arena like Edmonton and Winnepeg, Canada will lose another two teams (although I bet Ottawa moves to GTO if it comes to that)...Losing the Calgary Flames would be a tragedy, but I can see that team getting moved to Seattle if they don’t get their own new expansion team in the next 12 months.

Lots going on with NHL Franchises...but before any of that happens we get 2 months of the best sporting action in North America.

That's what really matters. Even Western hockey is worth watching in April.

But before we jump off into playoffs, can we not at least take a moment to recognize the league's FIRST team that finished 31st?

I was a genius this year. I gave up my Sabres season tickets before the season. My $90 a seat tickets could be had on stubhub for around half that to virtually any game. They now have at least a young nucleus of forwards, but the defense still looks to be a league worst again next year. If they are lucky enough to get the first pick and get the stud defenseman, I will consider re-upping for season tickets.

Yup. Heard tell of some going for single digits. I scored a free platinum game (Leafs, obv) and got my normally $100 ticket for $68. Leaf density had to have been to 80% this time around.

I say it's internal. I didn't see a single bum on the ice, and plenty where I was like "You seein' this s#$%?" Beaulieu is one; reminds me of me, if I were younger. And stronger. Faster. Better shape. Had a brain. But it just seems it's a bunch of kids running around out there. There's no undercurrent, no thread of oneness. There's not that thing that connects a bunch of parts into a piece.

Dunno if it's on ice leadership or front office failures, but they're at least wildcard without even touching the roster. They've just, to put it simply, gotta get their s#$% together.

While I get very up for the NHL Playoffs, I must admit I lose interest as it goes deeper. The first two weeks or so are great with games every night but as May is turning to June, my interest is gone unless my team is still in it.

The NHL playoffs start tonight!
There has been some discussion on the board in the past of "futures" bets vs betting playoff series (or game by game). I wanted to add a real world (real money) trial for the 2018 NHL playoffs. I shopped a little and SP looked the best overall. So here we go:

Jets look solid. 2 straight shutouts to end the Wild's season was impressive.

Still a few more games to complete the 1st round. Getting ready to watch the Caps today. Can a home team win a game in this series?

Losing the last game of the year isn't looking so good right now. The Leafs have forced game seven. I thought BOS would win for sure tonight (I even bet a little on them and lost obviously). Home ice is still on their side and it should be a good game to watch.
----------

WAS advances. This sets up Ovi vs The Kid part 4. I guess the forth time's a charm for the Caps (maybe?). I am far from an expert, but both teams seem a bit "weaker" overall when compared to years past. It should still make for a great series.
