they both indicated it would happen today for my age group but that was false
they claim there is a shortage of doses - distribution and supply chain problems
well aware it's not just me but probably millions throughout the U.S. unable to proceed as planned

That sucks. Hopefully the issue will be resolved soon. My parents (70+) got their first dose this past week. NV hasn't been very good with the vaccine rollout, but the wheels are in motion...
Quote: gordonm888Governors of NY State, California and Michigan all announcing that they will be ending the state-wide lock down orders even though positive tests/day are at a very high level.
Spokeslady for California governor was asked about releasing the California medical statistics that motivated the governor to end the lock-down. She basically replied that they will not be releasing the medical statistics because they don't think the public will understand them.
I guess that the threat of coronavirus must be over, eh? All those states acting in concert to relax the lockdowns. I would love to hear an explanation of this from billryan, darkoz or others.
I will speak to NYS as I live here
Firstly, you are correct that tests and deaths are rising in NYS.
However that's a kind of trees for the forest view
Here is a graph of deaths from covid in NYS
Notice there were about a thousand deaths per day at the beginning of the pandemic waaaay back in April and the sudden spike was followed by almost equally a drop in cases
Like from a thousand a day to three a day!!!!!
Anyone challenging the success of a lockdown has just to look at the success of NYS lockdown in reducing the death toll to see how well it worked
Here is a graph of Florida which didn't do a full lockdown
Ouch!! Just spikes all summer long. Sure they didn't climb as high as the initial NYS spike but NY has highly dense population areas.
Clearly lacking a proper lockdown caused Florida to not be able to get things under control.
Now NYS deaths are rising but that's exactly as expected due to the Flu and winter weather which historically is when second waves of virus get worse.
And how worse is it? At this time NYS only has 20% of the deaths we had back in the first major wave.
Overall NY is doing quite well. Truthfully if I didn't follow Coronavirus news I would assume it was all over. While we are all wearing masks and social distancing here still I haven't heard of anyone I know of dying in months from Coronavirus. Something that wasn't the case back in the Spring.
Finally there is one additional major difference between now and the Spring and summer and no it's not a different political leader.
It's spelled V-a-c-c-i-n-e!
The vaccine is being rolled out and while it's not a very good rollout right now, combined with the success NYS has had I think it's time to start reopening SMARTLY!
Funny how that part of the governor of NY decision to reopen is being ignored. He says we will open smartly. I.E. the full reopening will almost certainly come with continued mask mandates and other safety and cleanliness measures.
No one in NY believed this lockdown was forever. Surprised people outside NY thought so.

Apparently you can't.
When commenting on an article it's best to actually read more than the snippet headline otherwise you look dumb.
The article says three times more children are hospitalized than children with Flu
If you refute that then please explain how the article doesn't say that (it does).
You asked how many children get hospitalized. I answered with a source. So read the source or don't reply at all.

Do you enoy repeating lies?
I rarely get sick – and haven’t been sick in a couple of years (including not at all during the solid fourteen months or so I wore a mask).
The second hand smoke in the casinos exacerbated the cold, but I am wondering if I would have even gotten sick at all if I had kept the mask on these past ten days.
Has anyone else noticed no colds no sickness during mask wearing times?
Quote: MDawgI stopped wearing my mask about two weeks ago. I came down with a mild bacterial cold a few days ago. Hasn't particularly gotten me down - I have still played at the tables and I did my full gym workout both yesterday and the day before, which is actually even more than usual because usually I go to the gym only every other day.

In the UK, the incidence of acute respiratory infections, including flu, requiring medical consultation or treatment has been roughly half to a third of what we see in a typical year.
I'm not aware of anyone I know getting so much as a sniffle since covid restrictions began (except those who had covid)

The good news is, if variants get more and more lethal they don’t spread as easily because they kill more and more hosts.
That’s also the bad news.

I still say we need a variant that takes a decent percentage of it's victims and makes them suddenly foam at the mouth, splutter, and drop down dead in their own faeces in the middle of their cosy social gathering, preferably triggered by them denying there is a problem. We need 'lethal' to remove any doubt. Maybe a few variants down the road.

Symptoms of Delta variant are quite cold like.
Over here, we can get free self test kits from any pharmacy with no paperwork. We are encouraged to self test weekly or at the merest hint at possible infection.
Is it the same over there?
Get tested. I dare you $:o)
I doubt it’s Coronavirus because it’s just too mild. I mean, I hit the gym for a full workout four days in a row. I think the combination of stress (I was playing really hard) and a mild cold were making me sweat at the Tables, but it wasn’t normal sweat it was the cold sweat of a cold.
I am neither sweating nor coughing right now. I feel fine.
However, I did just make another appointment for another coronavirus test. No appointment available until Tuesday though.
Headache – no, didn’t have that. Sore throat, not now but yes yesterday morning my throat felt irritated. No runny nose, no fever. Mild cough.
Isn’t fatigue a coronavirus symptom? No fatigue whatsoever. Unfortunately. I wish I had been fatigued yesterday as I didn’t do well at the tables and would have stayed in if I had felt tired.
I believe that if I had not stopped wearing a mask those two weeks I would not have caught whatever it was I caught. Anyway masks are starting to become prevalent in Vegas and will be mandatory again come Friday.

I'm mostly with you, except there are some people who can't get the vaccine because of contraindications.Quote: billryanIn Arizona, 99% of covid deaths since January 15th have been unvaccinated. Almost every state is reporting similar numbers.
At what point, do we recognize these deaths as suicides? These people could have easily prevented their own deaths but choose not to.
Also, many of us who've had the vaccine had the experience of it knocking us on our asses for a couple days. Imagine that kind of tax on the body on someone whose health is already compromised—it's not inconceivable that the reaction to the vaccine could push them over the edge to death. Yes, if they got COVID, they'd for-sure be a goner, but we're comparing the chance of *definitely* taxing the body with the vaccine vs. *possibly* getting COVID (which is roughly a 1 in 10 chance, which is quite a bit less than a 1 in 1 chance of deliberately getting the vaccine).
But both sets of people are a minority of the unvaccinated. The mask rules that are coming back are primarily to protect those who could safely get vaccinated but won't. One might honestly wonder why we're spending any effort (mask rules) on such folks. To me, the answer (and why I continue to mask in public) is to keep the local hospitals from being overwhelmed. I've still got a 5% chance of contracting COVID (even though it won't kill me) and passing it on. If the hospitals get full of people who refused to get vaccinated, then there are no spaces left for people who got sick or injured through no fault of their own.
BTW, letting COVID "play its course", letting all the unvaccinated people get infected, where 1% of them die and 99% survive and get some immunity, that would take about 6.5 years for all the unvaccinated in the U.S. to get infected, so it's not gonna be over any time soon.
