Apparently that's not good enough.

Heck, I had to look up FN key because I've never pushed it. It's to the right of my right Alt Key on my Microsoft keyboard. But for most of history it's been to the right of the left Control key.

I just reinstalled windows 10 Pro on my laptop's 2nd SSD drive for the 4th time in 4 months, and One Drive syncing totally crashed it one time. I just got a new monitor that's 1440p and that crashed it most recently. I had to get a VGA to HDMI adapter and connect it after boot up the 1st time. I had to use EasyBCD 2.4 to set up a Metro (Windows 8) boot menu after a couple of reboots recognized the 1st SSD but didn't include it in the boot menu.

If you install with a Microsoft account, reactivation is also easier if you reinstall Windows 10 or transfer your license to another computer.
Welp, This will be a reactivation because I upgraded from Windows 8 about 10 installs ago. I was trying to walk away from One Drive this time, but I'm not gonna get past this reactivation feature.

I believe that falls under "theft by conversion". Using a rented car to perpetrate a terrorist act would seem to be wildly outside the scope of most rental agreements.
I make no particular secret that I disagree with these "peer to peer" service apps. You want to rent a room, call a hotel. You want a ride, call a taxi or a limo. You want a car, call a car rental place. I may not like any of the particular service companies, but I generally like them better than any of the oddball stories I hear about AirBNB, rideshare, or private car rentals.

"Intentional destruction of rental property" or some similar wording is the offense, and it's usually a felony. Those laws were written to discourage people from trashing homes out of spite as they are being evicted.
Rideshare I use, and I once drove both Uber and Lyft, a long time ago when the game was AP-able! The service assigned rides to drivers based on who was closest by time. So the trick was to use the passenger app to see where the other drivers were (this was in a small city where there weren't many drivers) and stage yourself to be closer to the places where you pick up desirable (i.e., highway! Speed=money, just like at a casino table) rides than the other drivers. So they'd all be congregated in the middle of town, standing around smoking cigarettes while I'd be staged near hotels, highway ramps, industrial parks etc. eating their lunches. It was really a competitive game you were playing against the other drivers. But the corporations didn't like that very much, thought it was unfair that smarter drivers made more money so they changed the system where rides are assigned based on how long it has been since you've had a ride, reducing it to effectively a minimum wage job with no skill or thought involved. There were a lot of other promotions too for drivers. There was one where if you did 10 rides in a shift they would pay you a $50 bonus. Now most drivers avoided picking up at Walmarts or supermarkets (especially supermarkets) because they were always short rides, not worth the trouble of picking them up. But with a bonus structured like that, I would stage right in a parking lot between a Walmart and supermarket and knock out my 10 rides in just a couple of hours, yielding a decent hourly rate.
The best benefit for me however was actually the tax writeoff. I had a pretty good corporate income at the time, and as long as your meter was on your mileage could be written off at the Federal rate which was around 54 cents a mile. It didn't cost me anything close to that to actually drive the car so I could make a slight profit just riding around empty, as long as the meter was on and I was prepared to accept rides. The app had what they called a destination filter, where you could set a destination and it would only give you passengers headed in that direction. That was intended for drivers who were maybe taken far from home on a long ride and need to get back home rather than farther away. So when I was doing a 2 hour road trip to a casino, I would set my destination filter for that casino and even if I didn't get a fare, I got to write the whole ride off my taxes for a trip I would be taking anyway. On the way back I would do the same thing, but usually wait at the casino to get a fare heading home, which would only take a few minutes, so I could document that I actually was doing business, despite the non-profitability from the perspective of a rideshare driver. But they placed severe limits on the use of the destination filter too, and at that point I stopped driving due to all the AP opportunity disappearing.

Thanks. I'm sure I've heard "theft by conversion" floated around on VINWiki stories about car rentals, but the intentional destruction may apply situationally.
As for rideshare, I think your story confirms my bias - it used to be good, but now it's only a little better than nothing.

I used Turo once. Palm Springs. Got a MUCH better car for 1/2 the price of the worst car available from a ‘regular’ car rental company. The car I got was NOT a car that some guy used and would just rent out occasionally, rather, it was from a fleet that this guy owned and used exclusively on Turo.
The risk of course is that if someone explodes the car you had reserved, (or just is a day late in returning it) there is no backup necessarily waiting for you.
I loved the convenience. After picking up luggage called the number I was given. Within a few minutes van pulls up and drives a few minutes to an office building parking lot. He points to the car, and says goodbye. Key in car. When we returned it same van immediately took us back to the airport.

I've also heard such tales. Stories of people being pulled over because their car was used in a robbery or discovering their catalytic converter was replaced with a test pipe. I understand some people buy cars strictly for renting out, and maybe those numbers work out but I would have no interest in renting out my personal car

The auction company I worked for did that. We dealt with repos and abandoned cars, and the workers routinely swapped tires and even the halogen light bulbs. We had a guy have his truck repo's and then he bought it back at auction. The next day, he complained that his tires weren't the same as when it got picked. My boss explained that everyone had a chance to look at the car before bidding and he bid on the car as it was. We were told to kool it for a while.

This goes way back. In the 60s Shelby had a Hertz fleet. People would swap out the whole engine. Lots of rental companies now charge a deposit to locals because of this kind of theft.

I once rented a car that left me stranded in a parking lot. Someone had swapped out the battery and put the bad one in there.
Now I'm just hearing about this Turo. Seems like an opportunity there. If I were to do it I'd buy a bunch of Kia Souls as there is nothing easier to drive or more practical. Although it seems like every other car in Vegas is one, so there would be a number of people looking to rent one to steal parts.

The KIA Soul is a surprisingly fun little car, but few people know that and I doubt many people would rent one by choice. I only ended up with one when the usual practice of renting the cheapest POS and bribing the yard guy failed.

Rated by who, Kia? There's a YouTube channel that goes around the country asking mechanics in garages about cars and Kia's always one of the lowest rated cars for mechanical issues. And Honda and Toyota are always the top ones. So many Kia's are stolen in the United States because they're such crap that they lack anti-theft devices. If you live in the right neighborhood and have a Kia and park it outside it's not unusual for it to be stolen again and again.

Maybe the new Kia is better but the older ones were junk and those are the ones mechanics work on. Mechanics are not going to rate a new car cuz they never see them.
I went shopping for a Kia Sportage in Feb. 2023 and that night the mayor of the nearest large city was on TV giving a warning about KIA, so I dropped that choice, also the seat was a bit high to climb in.
