If the budget was anywhere closed to balanced that might be true..

The size of the deficit does not matter.

Handouts are giving someone something they did not have.

Lets try a good example. Say you are at Circus Circus! and ignore the advice of everybody and decide to walk to the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop at about midnight. On the way, two guys mug you at gunpoint. You have $200 but they decide to let you keep $10 for a Duece ticket to get back.

Did they "give you something?"

All a tax cut can be considered is the government decides not to steal as much from you as they were going to before.

-Pay every American a Universal Basic Income and include this is part of our deficit spending.

Guaranteed income is a foolish idea that will only make the rich, richer, and the poor, poorer.

In 2009, the average tuition for private colleges and universities was $25,143.

Then, Obama took over student loans in 2010, and the amount of money in the pool available for college loans increased.

College administrators aren’t stupid. They took advantage of the program and raised tuition to get all of that money. Today, the average cost of tuition for private colleges has nearly doubled to $46,950, and student debt is $1.5 trillion.

How are these people going to save for homes, plan families, and save for retirement with that kind of debt?

Any federal guaranteed income program will have a similar inflationary effect on the cost of living for every American.

We might also end up with a lot more dead junkies.

There is no reason a straight white christian male should even consider a (D.) Even if you are 2/4 in that list voting (D) is voting against your self interest. In a $20 trillion economy a deficit of about $600 billion is normal and acceptable. Not happy with above that but not much I can do. It is better than the GND, medicare-for-all, and handouts-for-all that is coming from the other side. Best hope is it all holds together for 20 or so more years, after which I will likely be dead and the next generation can deal with it all.

Because being a real American is about getting what is yours and screw the rest. Maybe we should double our spending and plan on being dead in ten years.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

The money can come from the same exact places that Trump's current trillion dollar deficit spending is coming from.

How much has Trump added to the debt?

Mandatory and discretionary spending, are the two components of the Federal spending.

Annual Discretionary spending under Trump is only an average of $40 billion higher than it was under Obama in 2016. Most of that increase, is for military spending. A total increase of $321 billion in discretionary spending from 2017-19. That’s all Trump will have added to the debt in three years. It would have been less if congress didn't ignore his proposed cuts.

Tax revenues over that same period are up slightly.

The rest of the more than $2.55 trillion in deficit spending for 2017-19, will have come from mandatory spending on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and interest on the debt.

Where would you suggest cutting spending?

I like to start counting with 2018, because 17 was Obama's budget with Trump as president. Which means he has added $1.5 trillion in 16 months. First four months of this year have been a lot better than last year. Better than Obama's first term, worse than his second, overall pretty close -- and following closely what Obama did with the economy is what will help Trump be reelected.

How did Trump add $1.5 trillion to the debt in 16 months?

Between 2018 and 2019, Trump spent an average of $59 billion more per year on discretionary spending than Obama did in 2016.

Discretionary spending under Trump, only added 0.05% to the debt over two years.

The rest of the $2.55 trillion in debt, or 99.95% of the debt, accumulated from 2017 through 2019 was added by mandatory spending programs, which consume a larger percentage of federal spending with each passing year.

"Mandatory spending will increase 77.7 percent from current levels by 2028, and grow from consuming 61.5 percent of the federal budget to consuming 64.2 percent of the federal budget. Interest on the national debt will increase a whopping 189.6 percent (nearly tripling) from current levels, and grow from consuming 7.6 percent of the federal budget to consuming 13% of the federal budget."

Speaking of Trump quotes, pick the actual quote from the choices below.

Situation : Trump is told Mueller has been retained as a Special Prosecutor to investigate Russian interference during the 2016 campaign.

Responding to: AG Sessions, who was just told by DAG Rosenstein.

Witnesses: Hunt (transcriber) and Don McGahn (WHC).

Source: Mueller report.

A. "Glad to hear it! I welcome any investigation that will clear my name."

B. "Oh, my God. This is terrible. This is the end of my presidency. I'm f♡@&ed."

Answer: B.

And if that's not complete guilt and panic, I don't know what could be. The stalling, spinning, lying all came after that first guilty reaction.

Trump was wrong again. 2 year investigation and he isn't f....d. Of course he isn't exonerated. That could never happen whether he is guilty or innocent. All that occurred is that they couldn't reach the high bar of proving a crime.

But he is vindicated I would say. Better word to describe having the investigation not find anything that sticks to him. I wonder if an objective observer would say the Mueller I investigation is a success or failure. All the non Truump indictments and convictions seem petty when you can't naiil the big Kahuna. I would say failure, but I'm not strong in my convictions.

It is a Monumental failure. Their one and
only goal was to find dirt on Trump so he
could be kicked out of office. They failed
miserably. Their goal was certainly not to
find Trump guilty of nothing, which they did.

I'll have to look for my post, but I said way back that such an investigation could lead to discovering other illegalities. Until they close down all the things that sprung up from this investigation we won't know. If you are a criminal, even a simple traffic stop can lead to all sorts of discoveries.

You're ignoring that this had been an issue for months at this point. Trump had asked Comey at least 4 times they documented whether he was personally being investigated. Each time Comey had said no, Trump himself was not. That was the truth.

Trump was not being investigated until he fired Comey and said a day or two later it was because of the Russia investigation. On tape with Lester Holt. In direct opposition to what his flacks had said his reasons were. THAT is the context that matters leading up to that conversation. Not his realization of what his first outburst meant (in front of witnesses) and then trying to cover his tracks later. McGahn was there.

There are some things that were matters of dispute or insufficiently documented before, but are no longer in question. Let’s run through them:

Vladimir Putin very much wanted Trump to become president of the United States, and undertook a comprehensive campaign to make sure it happened. At this point, Trump might be the only person left in America who disagrees with this fact — or pretends to, anyway — but Mueller’s report makes it irrefutable.

Trump, his family and his campaign may not have set up a criminal conspiracy to cooperate with Russia, but they were eager to accept the help. This, too, was widely known, but Mueller provides exhaustive detail on just how enthusiastic Trump and those around him were about Russia’s interference in the election: There were not just extensive contacts with Russians they hoped would help them; they also gleefully welcomed Russia’s cybertheft from Democrats. As the Lawfare team puts it, the best that can be said of them is that “the Russians and the Trump campaign shared a common goal, and each side worked to achieve that goal with basic knowledge of the other side’s intention.”

The president’s attempts to obstruct justice were comprehensive and far-reaching. Mueller’s report documents in extensive detail the actions Trump took to subvert the investigation, including urging officials to pressure the FBI, trying to fire the special counsel and lying to the public. We can argue about the degree to which Trump could be held legally accountable or whether the intervention of his aides (or more often, their refusal to act) kept those actions from crossing the line into criminality. But there is no longer any question that Trump attempted to obstruct justice.

Everyone around the president, and the president himself, acted as though they had something to hide on Russia. Donald Trump Jr. lied about the infamous Trump Tower meeting. George Papadopoulos lied to the FBI about the outreach from Russia that began the investigation. Michael Flynn lied to the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador. Michael Cohen lied to Congress about the effort to secure Trump a multimillion-dollar deal to build a tower in Moscow. Paul Manafort lied about his relationship to the likely Russian intelligence asset to whom he passed polling data. Roger Stone allegedly lied about his contacts with WikiLeaks. President Trump lied seemingly every time Russia came up. If they were all innocent, they certainly weren’t acting like it.

Trump regularly instructs aides to lie to the public. Trump told Rod Rosenstein to claim that firing James Comey was his idea. Rosenstein refused, but Sean Spicer later told the lie to the press. Trump dictated a false statement to Hope Hicks for Trump Jr. to release about the infamous Trump Tower meeting. He instructed Donald McGahn to arrange for Mueller to be fired, then when the news got out, told McGahn to publicly deny it. He told Reince Priebus to tell K.T. McFarland to write a false email claiming that Trump never spoke to Flynn about Flynn’s conversations with the Russian ambassador. If you’re having trouble following all this, that’s okay — the point is that Trump regularly ordered his aides to lie; sometimes they complied, and sometimes they didn’t.

There are also doubtless times when Trump aides lie on their own initiative, within a White House culture in which lying is just what everyone does. Sarah Sanders claimed that “countless” FBI agents contacted the White House to express support for the firing of Comey; she admitted to investigators that this was false (though she now claims it was a “slip of the tongue,” another obvious lie).

Nearly everything Trump called “fake news” turned out to be true. While news outlets might have made the occasional mistake (as they do on any story), over and over again important revelations were greeted by the president with the cry of “Fake news!”, only to be corroborated by the Mueller report. For instance, Trump claimed that reports that he had shooed other officials from the room so that he could speak to Comey about Flynn were fake; Mueller concludes that the known facts "support Comey’s description of the event.” Trump called reports that he ordered Mueller’s firing fake; these are extensively documented in the report.

For instance, Trump claimed that reports that he had shooed other officials from the room so that he could speak to Comey about Flynn were fake; Mueller concludes that the known facts "support Comey’s description of the event.” Trump called reports that he ordered Mueller’s firing fake; these are extensively documented in the report.

.....

Sounds like Russia knew what was good for for the USA. I think Kim Jong Un supported Hillary. Should we charge her for something? Give it a rest already and accept the determinations of those that wasted $30 million on an investigation based on false allegations, from the side you are incredibly still supporting.

Getting back to the 2020 election.... My brother-in-law believes Donald Trump can do many stupid things. He thinks he makes a fool of himself many times. He just told me he considers the new Democratic plans to tax unrealized gains so egregious that he would have to vote for an idiot like Donald Trump before any sort of normal Democrat who supports that. He said they are so out of touch with reality of small businesses and small investors that have saved up over their life times that the idiot is better than the Democrats.

I think even Bob has made a post like this all around 100 times over the last few months! Now I found a real person who would vote for Trump despite not liking him at all. Dick Morris called it days after the election. It is not just the USA, either. Liberals lose and election like they lost to Trump they go cuckoo far left. They think the problem is they were not far left enough. They lose it. What makes it worse now is the purge of elected Democrats in the Obama years, for the most part only the ones in the most left, safe areas were spared. Unlike in 1976, 1984, and 1988, there are not that many centrists even available.

Excerpt from WaPo analysis of Mueller report - these are confirmed points to consider.

By Paul Waldman
Opinion writer
April 19
.....

Paul Manafort lied about his relationship to the likely Russian intelligence asset to whom he passed polling data. Roger Stone allegedly lied about his contacts with WikiLeaks. I would say the same of you, word-for-word. There were no false allegations. They are documented and sworn to by numerous people involved. You're in complete denial of what was actually reported, which was Barr's intent in spinning it and withholding the report for weeks to let it settle in. In other words, you're being used. Time to give up defending crooks, liars, and con men and think of your country instead.

Not all of the Democrats are over there. Amy Klobuchar is not. Buttigieg is further left than her, but not signing up for nonsense like UBI or Bernie BS. Harris is further left, but still has some sense. Biden isn't extreme left, but he's a little too far over there. I don't know where to put Warren, really. She's a crusader, but not really a socialist. Think she's left of Biden, but right of the others below.

The out-there wing of Sanders-Booker-Beto-Gillibrand-etc. is hopeless, and if they prevail in the primaries, I would expect a third-party challenge from someone serious like Bloomberg. Which opens the door for Trump as the incumbent. Though he's far from the lesser of those 2 or 3 evils. He's the destroyer, and they have GOT to get their act together and get him out of there.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

You're ignoring that this had been an issue for months at this point. Trump had asked Comey at least 4 times they documented whether he was personally being investigated. Each time Comey had said no, Trump himself was not. That was the truth.

So why wouldn't Comey say that in public?

Trump was not being investigated until he fired Comey. .; .

It's been said before, but the major news stations are an unreliable, often invalid source of accurate information. Not an issue restricted to political left or right. With the phrase "fake news" it's been used so much it's like the boy who cried wolf. Sure he'll be right sometimes, but he's been wrong so much more. I think it's a phrase that shuts down political arguments and just gets people to get defensive about their positions.

And yet some people say she is a crusader and not a socialist!

The ones who will most fall for it are the professional student types. The ones you see whining about all their student loans on YouTube, said they "wanted to get their phd in English Lit" then can't figure out why they have six figures of debt with no prospect of a job using their degree as they make my latte.

So far Trump has the only sane idea on the student debt issue--limit what a person can borrow using the program.

By the time of the first primaries I can see the ante being raised to not just free college for all but a "stipend" so students "don't have to work and can be full time students."

The student loan problem may be taking care of itself. Raw number of people going to college seems to be level to falling. People realizing a trade may be better for them. Some schools closing. Though I can see what is going to be set up from all of these trends in a few years.

You could not make up a bigger f-ck you plan if you tried to people who chose not to go to a four year school for whatever reason and worked hard and succeeded anyway, who will now end up paying for those irresponsible student loans they never took out.

I think it'll be awhile before there's any real change on this issue and definitely don't think it would go this far. Lots of those student loans are responsible moves, but the job market changes, the lenders are predatory or major life events impede the progress of the lendee. I'd be more in favor of gradual change to aid students. It's always tough to significantly change policy and with how polarized things are it might be better not to.

Making sure students have adequate support is a sensible plan and I think the candidates with that mindset are on a good path.

Are you saying student loan lenders are predatory?
