Quote: EvenBobLast year I found a 80 sq ft rolled up rug in the corner of Goodwill for $20 it was like new and I looked it up from the label that was on it and it sold for $450. I bought it and put it in my bedroom it fit perfectly. But there are people here who would rather pay the $450 and I say more power to them if money means that little to you.

Okay, here's the thing though. The only thing I can (and have) used a $450. rug for, is to cover up a portion of a $20000., $30000., $50000. or $100000. rug because that portion is say, around a bar, or some kind of eating area.
Which means that you can't really blame someone for paying $450. for a rug because in my estimation, you pay that amount gladly and don't have time to look around because you want something that is essentially disposable and yet at least matches the color scheme of the Persian rug it is meant to protect. Sure, if I could find the exact color and thickness of $450. cover up rug I need for $20., I'd do it, but I'm not going to spend my life searching for that.
Not that even one Persian rug in the average person's home is covered up, but in some situations, the need arises.
Incidentally, nothing lasts like a Persian rug. No matter how tightly that machine made cheap rug is woven, no matter how expensive that wall to wall carpeting is, it will never outlast especially an antique Persian. And for that matter, no modern synthetic dyes will outlast the vegetables dyes in an antique Persian or Oriental rug.
By the same token, antique furniture, a lot of it, is made so much better than modern, that it will outlast (and already has outlasted) most modern furniture.
Now that sort of look, Persian rugs and antique furniture, doesn't suit everyone's home, but where it does suit, there are no comparables. And you're not going to find either in a thrift store.
Hey! Hey! That's a Persian rug. It's from Persia.
As far as wearing used clothing, I would not have a problem with that, but I wouldn't bother unless we were talking about some kind of vintage shirt or designer shirt where the intrinsic value was there. Who needs used clothing when cheap brand new clothing from wherever costs about nothing these days anyway.
I pretty much agree with Ace on this one. Look at how dapper Ace Rothstein dressed, a little flashy, very '70s or '80s, but still - how can you find fault with that? I'd like to see a casino owner dress like that every day.

But this would make me really uncomfortable. Not the birds, but the inside of the cabin air.
Quote:A Southwest US-bound flight was forced to make an emergency landing after birds struck the plane's engine, the airline said.
The plane - flying from Havana to Fort Lauderdale, Florida - filled with smoke following the collision shortly after take-off on Sunday morning, Southwest said in a statement.
No one was injured in the incident

Loretta Lynn who was eventually worth millions when she went shopping for something like a toaster or a electric skillet she would always buy two of them and she would always buy them on sale so when the first one broke she had the second one that was bought on sale. She could obviously afford to buy a new one every week but that was not her mentality just because you have money doesn't mean you have to squander it.

Buying two of everything and keeping one in storage "just in case" is not even remotely frugal...LOL....
I bought all but two of my vehicles used, which saved a lot.
The big savings come into play with buying used high end audio equipment: let someone else take a depreciation hit.
Heck, it carries over to love as well: both of my wives (one is an ex) were "used," i.e. previously married and divorced.
I don't see myself as cheap, just thrifty.

Au contraire, mon ami. As they say in Thailand, you get what you pay for.
Or so I’ve heard, anyways.
I decided not to wait and I went to a Good Will store on my way home. As soon As I entered the store I saw a footstool that cost $10. It was even the color of the couch I had. As I was paying for it, I asked if they had a military discount. The cashier said that not only do they have a military discount, but today was senior discount day. I got the footstool for $9.

It is when you buy it on sale, which I do all the time. I just found a fantastic price for duct tape on Amazon and I bought six huge rolls enough to last me probably the rest of my life and the next day the price went way back up to normal. That's the very basis of frugality, buying when it's low and saving your money when it's high.

Quote: billryanI was in the Bisbee thrift store, and they had a pallet of brand-new swim fins. Some had $79.99, and some had $29.00 tags. They were on sale for only one dollar. I found seven pair of XXL ( size 13-15) with higher price tags—$ 560 worth of swim fins for $7.

I would say that thrift store shoes, socks, and undershorts are a bridge too far.
The boutiques and department stores in the mall do not offer the clothing articles I require to create and express my unique personal style.
The 5 year old really likes the quest for stylish vintage apparel, and then negotiating discounts on items she fancies. Thrift stores are far more willing to haggle than consignment shops.
I mostly look at the thrift stores for unusual small appliances. Habitat for Humanity ReStore seems to be the best way to match hardware styles for the places I find myself. (Window crank handles and decorative hinges, mostly.)

My new go to place for bargains is Facebook Marketplace. Unbelievable bargains there of every kind. Last week I bought a 8 ft antique wood step ladder for my cats for 10 bucks and the guy even delivered it to my house. Also last week I bought two commercial wood stand alone shelving units that are 5 ft tall and 6 ft long and there's a pair of them and I got them for $20 for the pair. And that guy also deliver them to my house which is a good thing cuz I don't think I could have got them in my van by myself. Super quality I couldn't be happier with them. I'm never going to buy another refurbished laptop there are way too many good ones on sale for half the money and twice the computer on Facebook Marketplace. Kitchen appliances also, anything you can think of it's there.

The sun will go down on June 21st at 9:20 where I livel that will be 11:20 p.m. at my house so it will still be light out at11:45. It will be like living in Alaska. It means I never have to think about timing anything I do outdoors this summer because I will always have enough light. It does not suck to be me..

So this plane, possibly a C-130, would gain elevation to about 1,000 feet, make a wide turn, come back and swoop down to maybe 100 feet or less, and then repeat it over and over. Someone said they thought they were practicing dropping fire repellent. Strangely, the plane was all grey, with no tail markings and nothing to identify it. I've seen similar planes flying in and out of Fort Huachuca, but watching them making these practice runs was a first for me.
Quote: billryanI was driving to Sierra Vista yesterday when I saw a strange sight. A huge grey military cargo jet flew very low over the fields to my right. Several cars had pulled over and were filming it, so I thought I would too. That's when I realized I didn't have my phone.

They are always gray. My son flew them in the AF for years and he says that they wasted incredible amount of fuel doing practice runs. He says the military waste money like nothing he's ever seen. Now he's a retired colonel but he still puts in one week ia month in the Air Force Reserve while maintaining a full-time job at American Airlines. This was a kid who stole a couple cars with his buddies in high school and the judge told him join the military when you graduate or you're going to prison so that's what he did and look where he is now. He joined with a high school diploma but tested so high that they sent him to college for a four year degree and then two more masters degrees in aviation. That's how you advance in the military the more education you get the more rank you get. It's always been that way.

I am pretty sure I saw a few on a recent trip near an Air Force base, and they do look different than they used to. I think it's a different shade of grey than they used to use.

He's based in Philadelphia. American is the premier airline to fly for he got hired immediately because of his high rank and years of military flying. They have flight schools now that train airline pilots but they don't start out making much money because they don't have any hours behind them. They have to fly co-pilot for years before they become a pilot. I think right now he's flying one of those monster planes to Europe and back. For most of 2005 he flew the C130 that followed Air Force One around the world. Whenever the president travels a huge plane is behind with all the armored vehicle equipment in it and the Secret Service. I got to tour the plane when President Bush visited our local city. Gigantic planes how they get off the ground is amazing.

The dealers will be getting paid by Ford for the delivery and presentation with their payment based on Customer satisfaction scores.
Ford says now that they make about $1500 on each car sold and the dealers are making over $2000. Their thought is that we designed the car, built the car, and shipped the car so we should get the majority of the money. Apparently Tesla makes about $7000 per sale but of course their cars are more expensive.

The 3 series plane is a great plane and probably the best single aisle plane made. On the other hand, it is not very big and probably only flies very short international flights as they prefer to use the planes with more seats on those routes.
