Might be OK for packing away sweaters for the season, but I wouldn't want to do it for travelling. I would imagine it wrinkles the hell out of your clothes.

Plus, if you vacuum pack your suitcase for Vegas, what happens when you go to pack to come home? I guess you could pack the pump & bags as well, but doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of trying to save space?

I suggest you take Nancy Reagan's advice and "Just Say No" to infomercials. ;)

That is funny. Did not think about that. I can see me on the day I leave and confused.

I would love to see he metrics used that make one company so much more expensive than the next.

Arizona law allows me to drug test employees and prospective ones for nicotine use. I had no idea this exists in twenty other states.

Why does CET send me an email offer for an AC junket when it is already completely booked? I just got the email and clicked the link to book, and it says "Sold Out?!"

Drives me crazy when they do that. While at work I live in my email. I have gotten that email before and clicked on it literally 5 sec after receiving it and was already full.

Couldn't disagree more. It's a truly bad movie. The character is not believable, not likable in any way. No other characters are even worth mentioning.

That is what's great about movies. You see a mesmerizing performance. I see a bad movie.

A woman missed out on $10,000 with her wrong answer on "Family Feud Canada." But the viral video of her answer got her $10,000 worth of free food.

" Whoever guesses this wins the game," host Gerry Dee told two contestants on Thursday.

"Name Popeye's favorite food," he said.

Contestant Eve Dubois could barely wait for him to finish before hitting the buzzer and singing "Chhhiiicckkkeennnn."

Hope she has lots of friends. 10k of Popeye's chicken will probably lay her up with various medical conditions.

Call the phone number. They always seem to find room for me regardless of the status on the computer. I think they rank your play in deciding whether to override.

They also have the option of chartering a larger plane sometimes if demand is there. It's worth at least getting on their waiting/standby list.

When it comes to drug calculations, each drug organisation manufactures their pills in standard concentrations and you may discover those on any field categorised correctly for the unique drug in question. Example By regulation, pharmacies that dispense medicines are required to have this info on the label.

Was at Turning Stone (Upstate New York) for the boxing card this past weekend. Ran into Mr. Graziano (Tony Graziano - he promoted Carmen Basilio back in the day, and later on Basilio's nephew Billy Backus). My Father made a point to introduce me to Mr. Graziano over 60 years ago at a card at the Syracuse War Memorial and I had not seen Mr. Graziano for 30 years or so. Mr. Graziano was at Turning Stone celebrating his 98th birthday. He looked great and still has a strong handshake. He gave me the "how ya doing kid" and it made my night.

If you have a minute or two to spare, type into Google " im-the-only-one-who-came-back-cny-d-day-veteran-remembers Tony Graziano" to read about Mr. Graziano service during WWII. (I tried to post the link but it doesn't seem to posting my message).

Mr. Tony Graziano is a man that commands great respect, great respect.

Well, I am sure MANY posters here would think that was very sensible behavior on your part, but the Marketing Mavens on those Junket Flights don't see it that way at all.

Their sales procedure is to send the email containing the magic words "junket flight" to zillions of people, have the computer show you "Sorry, too late, all sold out" and THEN they deal with those who are serious and persistent and who disclose their intended "action".

TERRIBLE?????? Perhaps it is, but that is the way they do it and one of the values of the WOV website is to reveal to the posters some of these arcane marketing tricks the casinos use.

This was eons ago, but my first Junket Flight delivered all the gamblers to the casino right away and delivered the luggage over four hours later. I had foolishly left my medications and my money in the suitcase. I never made that mistake again. I am hopeful my posts about that incident have kept others from wasting their time and having their "action" be foolishly downgraded.

How do you decide where to move?

I'm looking for like a Match.com but for transients. You put in your values and it gives you a state that's compatible. Does that not exist? Why are we not making one right now?

But for real, googling item by item is tedious. And I don't know enough to google what I need. How did YOU do it? Throw darts and just wing it?

In my case it was just define a few required criteria. For me the most important thing was warmth. I was a college senior and decided that I needed to decide where I was going to move when I graduated. I chose three cities and subscribed to their newspapers (I know, I am old and the internet wasn't a thing yet).

I chose San Diego, Las Vegas, and Port Arthur Texas. A big city in San diego, a mid-size cityLas vegas, and a small city Port Arthur. I read the news papers every week for a year. The next most important was getting a job which pretty much ruled out Port Arthur. I had been to Laas Vegas two or three times while in college as I was practicing my card counting. The big attraction to San Diego was the beach and the bikini clad beachgoers. I think Las Vegas won out because of my fascination with gambling and the booming economy in 1990. It also seemed like a fun place for a young man to sow his oats and fortunately I had relatively a lot of money saved up for a graduating college kid. I think it was about $20k which was a good nest egg in 1990. That was enough money to live well for a year without working. I went nine months just gambling and having fun then decided to get a job. After two years I got into the Gaming business and it has now been 27 years of it.

That is super helpful, but painfully narrow. There's a whole existence out there that has nothing to do with money.

I've already done the DRich portion, "the basics". And some of the larger "landscape" issues like gun laws, political atmosphere and whether they salt their freaking roads are sort of easy to find. But what about life's details? Can you collect rainwater? Open burn pits? Zone laws re: livestock? Building code?

You dig what I'm saying? Someone keen on the cowboy rancher lifestyle might want to move to Texas. He don't know nothing but he recognizes the name "Austin". So he steps off the plane in spurs and chaps and finds himself surrounded by IT nerds in cardigans and penny loafers. Whoops. That's perhaps an extreme example, but provides the point. It's illegal to ride ATV on the road in NY, but it's SOP here in my parts. It's illegal to keep wild animals in NY, but no one in my parts GAS. There's code enforcement in NY, but no one here cares. My experience of living in NY isn't found on the chamber of commerce website, and is vastly different than one would be led to believe if reading statutes.

Is it neurotic to consider this stuff? Maybe I'm too risk adverse, but stories like DRich boggle me, at least if done at my age. Grip it and rip it seems a bit reckless when talking your forever home.

Oh, it very much is. Positively gorgeous, reasonable ATV culture, and a proper approach to gun law. But winter goes from September to May and their weed laws are straight out of the Old Testament. Those are both wholly disqualifying.

I've already got the wide angle down though. I would stay in Appalachia, that's not debatable. The area I got narrowed down to, basically smash a bingo dauber on Daniel Boone and Cherokee Nat'l Forests, draw a circle around the splatter, then cut Virginia out of the picture entirely. That's the general area where I'm lookin'. Away from the coast, in the woods with the other hill folk. It's just... how do you ensure they're the proper hillfolk? Ya dig what I'm saying? Like the open minded liberal tired of southern repression, so he moves to the bluest state on the East coast.... only to find that all of NY save the 5 buroughs is basically Northern Kentucky. I don't wanna go down thinking it's all moonshiners and meth heads and find I landed in the nation's largest Pentecostal commune, ya dig?

All you can do is read read read. Then when you think you have a contender you must go and spend a week or two there and talk to real people.

There are a lot of internet sites where you answer questions about things you like and don't like and it spits out possibilities. Some are world-wide, others just the states.

Here is 10 in one:

https://www.bustle.com/p/10-personality-quizzes-about-where-to-live-that-are-actually-super-accurate-9082433

That said, I've tried a few and have not found much. But they tend to be oriented more for cities, (which make sense since that's where most people will be), and I want 40 acres in the middle of nowhere.

That's the problem with those, IMO. The whole of a human's personality in 10 questions? Perhaps a good starting spot for someone to get to know their self, but it paints with far too wide a brush. I did it and the first one put me in Texas. I thought it couldn't get more laughable until I decided to try a different one, which put me in LA. As in Los Angeles.

Work, of course. That's part of what go me thinking. Used to be limited to "where gaming occurs". Now limitations are "must have zip code". Hard to believe there'll ever be a wider window than that, so it seems prudent to take a look.

Y'all sparked something though... what's that site (those sites) that are always a mess? i think there is best and worst list for everything. Pick the 10 most important things to you.

Then for instance, google 10 best states for fishing. Record top 5,
10 best states for guns. Record top 5.

Keep going until you”ve covered everything important. Then see which states match up most.

Precisely. If it's big enough to get a review, it's too big. Does it have its own police department? Too big. Think Amish commune, but without all the hustle and bustle.

That's what makes this so hard. Like, it's "illegal" to ride a wheeler on the road in NYS. But here specifically, you do it whenever you want. I couldn't ride through town, but once on the other side I could ride the road 15mi to the lake shore and not even get a sideways glance. Do that in Hamburg just 30min away and you're going to jail. Do it in SC just 15min away and you're getting shot. As one who deeply values and oft engages in the practice, that's need-to-know info. But how in all hells would one find it?

It's these little things that give life value, and I've not a clue how to locate it. That site you offered is exactly what I'm talking about, but not the site I specifically had in mind. Mine was much more... narrow. Not state or even region, but down to the specific town itself. But your offering was a great start and exactly in the neighborhood of what I meant.

Inland Florida is full of those little towns. It's upstate NY with alligators instead of snow.

And no income tax. And much cheaper property tax.

And you can learn to fly.

That is a reason I would like to live in Florida. So many small airports to fly into. I learned to fly in Nevada and it is terrible for that. There are so few airports in the Las Vegas area and nowhere to really just fly into close for lunch or dinner. I would own a Cessna if I lived in Florida.

. I would own a Cessna if I lived in Florida.

may I recommend cri-cri? You don't get in it as much as wear it.
And there was one Florida girl who flew a kitfox for years. When she flew to Oshkosh for the annual fly-in, it was her very first landing at a controlled airport.

In Arizona, and I believe Utah too, ATV's are allowed on roads.

I was going to suggest rural counties in East Tennessee - but if you are thinking Cherokee Natl Forest, then you are already there.

Hills, lakes, cussedly independent people.
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

HAPPY YEAR OF THE GOLDEN RAT

As is customary in much of the world, the holiday celebration commences at sundown of the previous day, so I guess i'm a tad bit late.

Anyone know of casinos offering specials on Asian foods or Asian games?

so, I had a car service pick me up at my house - it wasn't Uber and it wasn't a taxi - and she didn't get paid by distance - it was a flat rate

and we need to access the interstate - so google maps gps tells her a way to access it that is a least on mile further and 4 more traffic lights than the quickest way

I know these roads like the back of my hand

google maps is often wrong - so much for high tech

grocery store hack:

I sold goods to grocery stores for years - they rotate their stock to try to get rid of the oldest products ASAP

if you pull from the back instead of the one closest to you you will often get a much fresher product

There may have been an accident or construction slowing traffic by the exit you wanted. Knowing the roads doesn't mean you know the conditions.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

no, I got her to make a U turn and go the correct way - there wasn't any of that stuff -

believe me - I've checked it out in depth - google maps is often wrong

one time when I was in Vegas not too long age and we decided to tour a ghost town in Arizona - a tourist trap - I used google maps - they put us on a dead end unpaved road in the middle of nowhere

a state trooper saved the day and got us there the correct way

100% agree. To get to airport from my house the route they would use is just plain stupid. The airport is southwest of my house. For some reason it starts you going due east until you hit a main road and then go south. The main road is bigger but always slower than the less main more direct road. So you go longer AND slower.

Going to Buffalo it would have me take Main Street instead of parallel alternatives. Traffic on Main Street makes the 2 mile trek around 10 minutes. Alternatives less than 5 minutes. No one who knows the area would ever go via Main Street.

I think the most dangerous drivers are those listening to GPS instructions instead of keeping their eyes open.

I see so many people say, "I need GPS on my smart phone!" How the eff did these people get around before smart phones and GPS??? Did they just never leave the house or something?

I used to use a paper map. Now my phone tells me when to turn. I wouldn’t die if I didn’t have GPS. Just makes it easier. Like tons of shit in my life I didn’t have 30 years ago.
