It started pretty dark with DRich suggesting comic book fans are pedophiles.
The “adults have no business enjoying x” conversation has come up before, and obviously ruffles my feathers.
That last part is probably accurate though.

Because it's a bulls*** argument. DRich, Rigondeaux, and EvenBob know that.... they're just trolling us, otherwise they have to admit that casino games are childish, brain-rotting activities, too, because almost every kid knows how to play blackjack and poker.
Anyone who legitimately believes children's interests and adult's interest can not overlap (as with toys and comic books) is seriously out of touch with reality and how the human brain works.

I only insinuated that that is my impression of some comic book readers and yet that is how I view most of them. I'm sure there are one or two that aren't.
last 2 days we are having problems with our cloud based software. It keeps timing out and then will work fine for a little while then will give us a hard time for a little. I called the software and they are claiming that they arent having any problems. I went out and bought a new router which is the nighthawk 6900 (I think thats the number) and we are still having the same problem. A few minutes ago I ran a cmd and pinged google 9999 times. I let it run while I was working and when the software timed out I was still getting 18ms pings so I dont think it is our internet that is dropping. Although I don't know a whole lot about it. My question is basically, if my pings are good during the time out error can it still be my internet that is cause our issues or does it sound more like a software problem?
I am typing this from another tab in the browser that is working fine but the software is timing out.

This is certainly helpful to me. Of course, any change that results in me paying less or deferring taxes by definition lowers the amount of tax revenue. Golly, what a surprise, but no where in the article does it state what government spending will be slashed to make up for this shortfall...... Just grow the deficit.....

I believe there are some entitlements and social welfare programs already on the chopping block. Maybe that's where they're slashing spending.
I'm told this new law hurts people who inherit IRAs and the like, but overall it seems pretty promising. It should allow many people access to 401plans.

You are probably having too many dropped packets. Call your internet provider. Aso, ping with larger packets.
so, the tax bite on the IRA for most will not be too terribly bad - much less in % terms than if they were also earning a large salary

I hope so too.
But seriously, unless I know the exact requirements and thresholds for SNAP and any direct government giveaway for that matter, how can I decide if it is a good or bad idea to cut those benefits, or increase them?
I know it is anecdotal, and from 30 + years ago, but I have distinct memories of buying herring (the cheapest fish they sold) with the little money I had as a Med Student, while other shoppers were buying lobster, shrimp and crab with food stamps! I am all for those in need not going hungry, but I am not so sure our government does a good job at it.
If 700,000 lost their access, how many had access to begin with? Crazy numbers in this economy with help wanted signs up everywhere!

can you please give me some evidence that show the new snap rules affects "mostly minority children" I thought this new SNAP rule mostly targeted able-bodied adults.Quote: billryanSome 700,000 people just lost their access to SNAP, mostly minority children. I'm all for people getting help when they are really in need. Sick, recently lost a job and other circumstances(I'm not heartless). But, many minorities(and white folk) use the system as a way of life. When I see groves of seemingly able-bodied adults lining up at 7 eleven with nothing but crappy junk food in their hands(when there's a Walmart just down the street) I have to assume either they're abusing the system or their children with all that overpriced junk food.
I understand if someone lives in a town or an area where the only available store for many many miles is a 7-Eleven then of course they should be able to use it at that location, but other than something like milk there's absolutely zero reason to be using that stuff at 7-Eleven on junk food.
I believe on this form somebody mentioned I shouldn't be blaming the people who are taking advantage of something offered by the government. Perhaps they right, and on the other side of that we should not complain when something is actually being done to fix the problem.
Quote: AxelWolfcan you please give me some evidence that show the new snap rules affects "mostly minority children" I thought this new SNAP rule mostly targeted able-bodied adults.
You're right. It specifically targets adults without children (or dependents).

Quote: billryanYou are referencing a different cut. There are three separate cuts being made. One cuts adults without children, one targets families and the last eliminates free schoolmeals for as many as 950,000 children. For some strange reason, the administration is trying to focus all the attention on the first one.
Ah, okay. I didn't know that. Just did a quick google and stumbled upon the first one that targets only adults.

Of course most casino games are mindless wastes of time.
Sure, I was teasing a bit.
Almost everyone wastes away some time on silly distractions to unwind or tune out or blow off steam. Maybe some dumb show, porn, a joint, videopoker, a six pack, a videogame or a movie made at the intellectual and emotional level level of an 11 year old.
But these things are just vice and distraction. Don't tell me a porno or marvel movie is actually a great piece of art.
As you grow older you should also devop some interests suitable for adults. And probably begin connecting to more substantial culture.
To the original point, the wide popularity and even dominance of these things is a turn for the worse. When you look at top movies of the past you see silly escapism, but also some clever, original and thoughtful films. Now, it's only the retard stuff.
It's like an individual going to a casino occasionally is no big deal. If they do it all the time and it is a central part of their life, they are sick.

What I would like to know is, where in Florida (if you're down here) did you find good whitefish salad?
I had not tasted it before Dan Lubin took me to lunch at a kosher deli near his work, and he gave me a bite of his. I had to go back to the counter and order a full scoop. OMG that stuff is good!
My Grandmother used to tell us the Dead are not truly dead as long as there is someone who keeps them in their heart. I hadn't thought of that, or of her in years. Now I'm sure I will think of her whenever I hear Remember Me.

Thanks for leniency, BBB. I'm in Buffalo, and our Wegman's has a Kosher deli counter, so I get it from there. But I have gotten a large container from our TOPS supermarket called ACME Whitefish Salad. It is just as good as deli counter. I think it only comes in two pound tubs.
When you make it up to Buffalo/Niagara, Yvonne, Jonathan and I will take you to Bagel Jays where I sometimes get a bagel shmeared with whitefish salad and onion.
Quote: DRichOne of the companies that I work for owns 140 convenience stores. It amazes me how many people use all of their SNAP benefits at a convenience store.
In NYC, at least, there are few supermarkets in poor neighborhoods. When you factor in that many poor people don't own cars, a trip to the supermarket that is routine for most becomes a logistical nightmare. Who wants to lug a bunch of groceries from the market to the bus, then from the bus to their house. Ever try to carry a weeks worth of groceries a few blocks? With two small kids in tow?
When I lived in Queens and didn't drive, I'd take a bus to Walbaums, which only involved walking one block to and from the busline, but then take a.taxi home.
Eventually, I did much of my shopping at the local bodegas which were more expensive and offered much less choice. Try finding skim milk or fresh vegetables at one of these.
There is even a term, food deserts, to describe the areas of the city not covered by supermarkets and green grocers. Almost thirty million Americans live in these food deserts.
Most of us get in our cars and don't give things like this a second thought, but a poor mother, with two small kids and no car, has many less options.
Quote: billryanWatched Coco last night. What a masterpiece. Disney's best since Aladdin, in my opinion. Not only was the animation spectacular, but it's a fantastic explanation of why The Day of the Dead, and, by extension family itself, is so important in the Mexican culture. I only wish I could have seen it on the big screen instead of a fourteen inch computer monitor.
My Grandmother used to tell us the Dead are not truly dead as long as there is someone who keeps them in their heart. I hadn't thought of that, or of her in years. Now I'm sure I will think of her whenever I hear Remember Me.
Damn kiddie movies.
Movies for small children aren't my cup of tea, but are often excellent.
Pretty sure the last one I saw was Wall-E. Some of those scenes were visually fantastic. Sharp satire about where we are headed. Creative and original.
Sure beats terrible cgi effects of two guys in their underpants using magic powers to throw cars at each other for 2 mindless hours.
It is s kind of mystery why the level of quality for Hollywood films is often highest with films for small children. I guess in part, their parents, might only get to see a few films a year and so the films are made partly for them.
I don't know if they are good toys for a child's development. Maybe some are and some aren't.
I sometimes play puzzle games on my phone but I'm glad that I mostly don't play with toys anymore.
If you say that any judgements about culture are false, you must be a hard relativist. Bach is the same thing as a home video of someone getting kicked in the balls. Watching a Scorsese movie and understanding at least some of his genius is the same thing as staring at the butt of a hot weather girl on the Mexican channel.

I think there is a difference between an awareness of violence and a fixation on it.

It used to be pretty good for Advantage players as well. Casinos would do all kinds of crazy things. I remember at the Frontier the Pit Boss would announce any pending bets would be either a win, or a push if you lost. If you timed it right you could have a significant sized bet out there. I'm not sure what would happen if you covered a bunch of numbers on roulette. I never attempted that.
And of course, games that had player funded bonus pools and various other types of games would be packed to giving you lots of extra value on that day. Depending on the situation and what games they had available during that time you could quadruple your normal daily average.
You can get away with a lot more on table games on New Year's Eve likes card counting, however, one shouldn't get their hopes up because according to ZenKing that's when they crack out the Chinese prison decks.

Then again, I could find a way to screw up getting laid in a brothel, so I'm sure I've been doing something wrong.
