a chest freezer for everything else.
I used to buy eight 20 pound turkeys
when they were cheap at T-giving
and cook one every 6 weeks all
year long. Deep freezes are very
handy to have.
So are happy wives.Quote: EvenBobDeep freezes are very handy to have.
You can get freezers and refrigerators with the plumbing geographically remote for tight places, you can get a variety of special models for yachts and stuff... but don't forget the goal is get the cold food stored for you, not served to you by an unhappy wife.
Quote: petroglyphOk, here's the deal. The best fridge bar none is a bottom freezer. Think about it, what part of a fridge/freezer combo do we use most? The door and contents are at eye level for the most used items. The freezer which is used less [the roll out ones] is on the bottom, will hold a turkey and thermodynamically cool air falls and warm air rises.
If that doesn't blow her skirt up for ya, then get her a side by side with a bottom freezer and and ice maker. If that aint enough ass kissing than get a new wife.
Petro has this exactly right. French door refrigerator with deep doors, freezer on the bottom.
..It will save on electricity because of how it cools
..It's the most convenient for how people live
..Deep doors make it so less stuff gets pushed to the back to rot. Again more convenient
..The French doors on this style allow for turkeys, pizza, platters, whatever both refrig and freezer.
I suggest you go to your local Lowe's and check the scratch/dent aisle, or several Lowe's if you have them around. Seriously good deals there, at least at my Lowe's. Get an upscale out-of-the box for the price of a base model. If it's missing a part, there's the internet. Still under warranty. If you don't see what you want, keep checking back.

I saved about $800 by ordering my last one online. It is amazing how much markup the local places have plus you have to pay sales tax locally.

But they don't stay happy long, that's
the problem.
Quote: DRichI saved about $800 by ordering my last one online.
I agree. I got a new furnace online that cost
half what one at Lowes or Home D would cost.
Free shipping too. Hooked it up myself and
saved another 500 bucks. They have these great
flexible ducts now that weren't around 25
years ago for my last new furnace.

I have realized this over the last 8 years for sure. We have a great marriage and never have a huge argument. However, whenever she gets something she just wants the next new thing.

Good to know, I will probably need to replace mine in the next year or so.

Some states won't let you install it yourself,
mine won't. You have to pay a licensed
contractor a stupid amount to do it. If
you have any ability at all, installation
is easy. And because I put the new one
in a different place in the basement and
it had a new plenum, the flexible ducts
were a dream to work with. They go
in and out and around like you can never
do with metal ducts.
Quote: GWAEWe are buying a new refrigerator. My wife wants a side by side but I don't like them. Does anyone on here have one that they hate, if so why? I guess if you have one and love it, why?
I guess you mean this look?
this look below is essentially what we have [conveyed with house] and man, I see this all over the place now. Not crazy about it but fairly neutral about it.
I think it is fair to ask, what don't you like or dislike about one of the above?
If you can't, of course that is different
Quote: odiousgambitIf you can put it on the 30 yr mortgage, quit worrying, get what you want, you won't notice even a $1000 difference [$5.37 a month, per calculator, for the difference of a grand if M. is 5%]

You can no longer add things to a mortgage. The days are gone when you can pull some equity out during the mortgage process.

improve my life.

'actually going to the games' really looms as the complete insanity of wasting the whole day, that has totally stopped for me and I really kind of don't want even free tickets to much of it [hockey an exception]

pretty ancient.

Logically is it safe to assume that we have at least one toothless forum member?

Sounds like you are on top of things, GWAE. So you probably already know this, but as a PSA to others...
Beware of putting appliances/furniture/vacations/any large purchase on a credit card/store credit before your closing! If the amount of what you charge represents a significant portion of your available credit, it could wreak havoc on your credit score. This could cause your lender to say, "Nope." at closing and withdraw their financing!
Sign the dotted line, get the keys, and then go on your shopping spree (spending within your means, of course)!
This is legitimate research that is explained on their web site. Now for the jokes.
Quote: 1BBWould you like to get paid for taking a dump? If so, keep your cheeks together and hightail it to OpenBiome in Medford, MA. Qualified participants are paid $40 per dump and $250 for four in a one week period. No, you can't mail it in. Let the jokes begin.

"Defecation is no laughing matter," said the coprophiliac, tongue in cheek.

I missed this the other day when you posted it. I am very well versed on credit and knew that. However, a lot of people don't. A friend of mine closed on her house yesterday, but last week she went to ikea and opened a new credit card and bought a bunch of furniture. When she told me that, I gasped. Now her income is really good and her credit is good so the drop in credit score would not be a problem but in some cases the DTI (debt to income) is a major issue.
I've not visited the website but please remember that intestinal bacteria play a large role in our health.Quote: 1BBThis is legitimate research that is explained on their web site. Now for the jokes.
One theory on the enormous growth of diabetes is that non sugar artificial sweeteners radically affect the numbers and types of microbes in the gut which has a major effect on insulin resistance, a precursor to full blown diabetes.
Quote: MrVI used to be a regular at JP's message board, and am quite familiar with him, his methods, and what he has shared about his past.
Obviously I know more about him than the fan you met at the casino.
Was the fan an aged, quasi-senile racist named Frank, perchance?
No, I don't think so. I paid more attention to JP than the fan. JP walked around the $25 blackjack pit in AC Caesars at that time, You couldn't miss him because of his unique trademark outfit (Sport Jacket & Turtle Neck Long Sleeve Shirt, like the one shown in the picture below). After the shoe, I took a break from the game and looked for JP. JP just disappeared behind walls of slots, and I failed to find him for a chat.
Quote: ArtemisNo, I don't think so. I paid more attention to JP than the fan.
JP made far more money from book sales
than he did by following the advice he gave
in his own books. He's a break even player,
which gets you a lot of comps and not much
else.
I was sort of kidding about whether the other fellow was "Frank;" an inside joke, meant to poke fun at his sycophantic camp follower and internet gambling message board punching bag, Frank Stanton.
Even if you are not anti-social like me, it's great to shut the door and say, " You need a warrant to enter my private world. "
Quote: GWAEleaving in 5 minutes to close on our first house. Excited and scared all at the same time.
Is the house turnkey or will you have work to do?
The person who owned the house was in a nursing home in jan. While he was in the home a pipe burst and flooded the entire house. They took most of the house to the studs and rebuilt. I have the receipt for the repairs. It was 71k.
So to answer your question, house is in near perfect sjape, but I have a wife.

Since I met your wife I wanted to go back and sort of hash this out, hoping this is right. [g]
Quote: GWAEoh and here is what we found at the new house today
Very old-person habit. Could have been who knows how many of those stashed all over the house; with the guy in a home and third parties doing the repairs, if there were more, I hope they were decent about getting them back to him. You don't say whether the guy is still alive, but might be nice for you to attempt to return it as well.
My ex-M-I-L hid something close to $200,000 in her house, tucking bills in books, vases, kitchen containers, sewing them into pillows, all kinds of places. It caused endless pain among the 5 kids; she was Alzheimered and very crafty for years.
You may well find more. And the flood may have caused who knows how much to be thrown out as trash.
btw, the guy passed away in Jan.
about an hour later I found another I can't believe its not butter container but all that was in this one was screws. I guess he really liked that stuff.
Quote: rxwineWhat year are the bills?
Not sure, I will look at them when I get home. I had the same thought as well but forgot to look.
Quote: onenickelmiracleDid you get one of those muslim loans since you keep saying owner/renters?
haha, no; I just always joke that buying is the same as renting except you pay rent to a bank instead of a landlord.
Quote: GWAEIt is a weird amount to have. Why not make it an even 1k.
I had a friend tell me the story of his father stashing any extra $ he had in a hidey-hole somewhere in his house. When the amount got to $1,000, he would take it to the bank and buy a $1,000 savings bond.

Similarly, my friend's father developed Alzheimer's, and after he died, the family found cash everywhere in the house.
To escape away, or NOT to escape away?
A few weeks ago, bj dealer (Jillyan) annihilated all players at the table#1003.
Should players escape with remaining chips and fight another day?
Yes, they should, but, nobody was able to. It seemed that they got hypnotized and magnetized to their chairs.
Then a few days later, the same dealer dumped and lost to all players at the table#4026.
Of course, nobody wanted to walk away when a dealer dumped.
Hello, is there a psychiatrist in the house to answer this question...
Why is it so hard for losers to escape from an annihilating dealer?
One man developed Alzheimer's/Dementia/Something and was convinced the only think keeping him alive was this Gypsy Woman's prayers for him. Another man, not particularly old, used his twenty grand life savings to buy a set of eight glasses with "collector potential". He had to move in with his kids stressing their relationship as he sits there staring at the eight glasses and thinking no-one-knows-what.
