....on the other hand, once I got married, forget that!

Did your wife come with you last weekend?

No, we often "just do our own thing". She's about to take a trip that just got extended to 10 days so she can visit a sick brother.

I'd like to say 'absence makes the heart grow fonder'. Unfortunately the wife insists we talk on the phone everyday for about an hour when we separate. Really does it for her, really big, so I want to go along with it without protest.

When I got home she really wanted to yak and I found myself having to hide that I really didn't want to talk anymore. I was talked out. It seriously occurred to me that the heart had had no chance to grow fonder.

btw our marriage is strong. I reveal this kind of stuff and think nothing of it, get it off my chest. Friends are often alarmed, thinking divorce is around the corner, that they are just seeing the tip of a nasty iceberg. Not so.

I eat no processed food, it's all made from
scratch, even burger. And I use nothing but veggies and they
all need to be cut into small pieces for
the crock pot.

The best foods are the ones which take the least effort to digest. Beef is bad, as is brown bread made of grains. Eat a lot of junk food in the morning, don't sit around, and you're good to go. (Remember, snakes eat once a day, and crap once a day.)

I've had a lot of experience with helping people overcome serious illnesses, and major surgeries. A lot of arguments with hospital dietitians too. (In that respect, you're better off with a math degree when it comes to properly interpreting the nutrition labels.)

Obviously though, you have to be relatively healthy to go this route. Sick persons should eat more often (unless overweight), and seek out low- fat, sugar, and salt, foods.

Now we use a French brand that is not stainless steel. You have to be careful to clean and dry them all the time.

Carbon steel probably. They'll rust if you
don't care for them properly. I prefer
quality stainless, takes an edge and no
rust. Holding an edge is unimportant,
any cook worth his salt sharpens his
knife every time he uses it.

Ginsu Chikara knives. You can laugh at the old commericals, but they are the number one rated knives on consumer reports, and also owned by Warren Buffet's company. They are made here in America:

I have Wuesthof knives but if I had to buy again I would get Ginsu Chikara.

For a cheap knife, they're OK. A good set
of Cutco will cost 2 grand and last a hundred
years. A 40 year old Cutco carving knife
will cost what a whole set of Ginsu's do.
The quality is why it's worth it. Cutco
also makes quality hunting knives that
will butcher a deer in the wild lickity
split.. I'm sure Barb's dad had all this
in his sales pitch 60 years ago.

This set goes for $1200

I have an all-purpose knife with a rubbery handle/grip which works wonders for chopping and slicing. For meats I use a different knife. The trick with both is to sharpen them from time to time. I've a French-made sharpener I bought during a promo at a supermarket, I forget the brand. It has two slots over which you run the knife, first in one and then the other ten times each. It works perfectly well. Pretty much I only use those two knives, but then I don't make complex cuts of meat which require deboning, skinning or even much trimming.

My buddy just purchased a 15 million volt stun gun for around ten bucks.

It's rechargeable (comes with a built in plug), and has an LED flashlight as well.

Yeah, it sounds cheesy, but look at all the rave, five star reviews from satisfied customers.

When buying one of these, do you test it on yourself to make sure it works right? It would suck to actually need it and find out that it is defective.

I'm going to share my findings below with you guys---because we can all learn something from John Patrick & Colin Jones.

1) Professional Gambler JP

I just find out more about John Patrick through this link:
http://johnpatrickcasino.com/biography.htm

2) Blackjack Expert Colin Jones

I just watch the CJ's video on how a pitboss backed him off and then flatted-bet CJ. Hey CJ, where can I buy that super hidden camera?

By the way, this video is a proof that Poker is preferred over Blackjack because a pitboss doesn't back off poker players.

Why waste your time and money to be the best like Colin Jones, but then the best cannot play? It's like becoming a Michael Jordan, but then NBA bans you for being the best!

It's paradoxical contradiction, ain't it?

I'm OK with Corps which pick and choose clienteles. Both insurance companies and casinos have the right to pick and choose customers. They may keep profitable ones and kicked out the rest. But, I'm not OK with a casino supervisor who says counting cards... is like stealing food from a buffet (a foodlifting offense), or video-taping a movie in a cinema (a piracy offense).

Uh, your "findings" are fraught with error.

John Patrick lives in a tract home in Lutz, Florida.

see: "19009 Fishermans Bend Drive
Lutz, FL 33558
Find on map >>
Show street view

Owner: JOHN PATRICK
Parcel usage: Single Family Residential
Market/just values for property: $140,464
Total land value: $35,880
Total value of all buildings on parcel: $104,584
Assessed value for property: $134,587
Taxable value for property: $84,587
Assessments for tax year: 2014
Heated living area: 2,181 square feet
Actual year built: 2004
Effective year built: 2008

Read more: http://www.city-data.com/hillsborough-county/F/Fishermans-Bend-Drive-5.html#ixzz3ExJYZ08K"

He moved there years ago after his mother died to be near his daughter and grandkids.

Prior to that he lived with his mom in her home.

Hardly "in a multi-million-dollar-home in Short Hills, NJ;" more like a regular home in Clifton, NJ.

He's far from rich.

Stubborn, controversial, opinionated but definitely NOT wealthly from being a "professional gambler."

I used to have one of those remote neck collars for my dog. Great tool, it gave him extra years of his life because I could trust that he wouldn't chase deer or hub caps.

It was great with 6 settings. Me and my boy took turns seeing who could take the highest zap. At setting 5 it would make you pee. Good times.

I see that after I "busted you" for your absurd comment that "Now JP is rich and lives in a multi-million-dollar-home in Short Hills, NJ.," you went back and deleted that from your thread.

I want to know the SOURCE you relied on to support your so-called "findings."

There is nothing on the link you quoted to support the claim that Patrick is rich and lives in Short Hills; where specifically did you read that, and why did you delete it?

could be lots of things such as inheritance or maybe he bought Microsoft stock.

"If you had the good fortune to have bought 100 shares at the $21 offering price that day and sat on the investment for 25 years, it would have mushroomed into 28,800 shares over the course of nine stock splits and be worth about three quarters of a million dollars today.

That's the good news. Here's the disheartening caveat: Had you instead sold your stash on Dec. 1, 1999, when Microsoft's stock price reached its peak, you would have reaped $1.4 million."

Your source is more reliable than mine, and that's why I edited my post.

A JP's fan at a casino told me that JP's doing GREAT. JP gets his business corporation in Short Hills, NJ, and makes money.
Short Hills is a rich city like Alpine, NJ with multi-million-dollar homes.
So I assUme* the fan's story is "reliable" and use it as a source of story on JP. http://johnpatrickcasino.com/biography.htm

Good catch, Mr. V.

Congrats on the home purchase, GWAE! Not sure where you are in the process, but I would suggest retaining the services of a RE lawyer to look over documents and represent you at closing. I did not use one on my first purchase, but did on subsequent purchases. It was money well spent, and definitely reduced my stress in the process. Good luck!

I inquired about using one but was advised that I do not need one. We are buying a house under 100k and it is our first house. I was told since this is a straight forward 30 year fixed and no house being sold that we don't need one. We are also using the PHFA loan program which has strict guidelines on the type of loan that can be used. Part of this loan requires all buyers to take a mortgage counseling session. It used to be required for all scores under 680 but now it is required for anyone not putting down 20%. Anyways, during this session she looked over all of the paper work to make sure they were not putting us into a crappy loan situation.

For anyone in PA looking at mortgages this program is decent for people not putting down 20%. They charge a higher interest rate but there is no mortgage insurance.

When I was living in Minneapolis, my roommate, who was a professional belly dancer, was working the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Her sister, also a belly dancer, had a one year old. They put the baby in a zip-up pup tent, bare to the walls (like a playpen, they thought), for 20 minutes while they did their act. The baby crawled to the opening, got tangled in the netting for the interior door, and suffocated between the inner and outer walls.

So, yeah, it's probably mostly babies, and old feeble people. But it's also true that one of the best ways to immobilize someone is to wrap them in a wet bed sheet; they're completely stuck until it dries. Could be some nefarious intent in those stats as well...

A single and a play at the plate? For me it's a beautiful thing, but Hollywood wouldn't stand for that ending. The dramatic moment has to be a home run. Tragic moments must be strikeouts.

Ted Williams hit a home run in his last at bat. Babe Ruth hit home runs in his last two at bats.

I played 10-20 holdem with John Patrick on Pokerstars. I would rate his poker skills as average, at least in limit holdem.

Teddy Ballgame was quite a guy. No telling how many more records he would hold if not for his military service. Had battering average of exactly 400 with 2 games to play. Manager wanted to bench him. Teddy said " No WAY ". 6 for 8 those last two games !

Roberto Clemente hit a double off the wall for his 3000th hit in his last at bat. That was pretty dramatic, considering no one knew it would be his last at bat. And a double fit Clemente and his era better than a home run would have. Clemente was always better running the bases than jogging around them.

And in unrelated matters: why does nobody ever want to introduce me to their sister?

We are buying a new refrigerator. My wife wants a side by side but I don't like them. Does anyone on here have one that they hate, if so why? I guess if you have one and love it, why?

I have had a side by side for 20 years. Pluses are I find it convenient to use since you don't need to bend over as much as with a top/bottom in whichever configuration you buy it. Love the ice dispenser which are usually only on SXS's. Negative, the freezer side is fairly narrow and difficult to fit in something like a turkey. This is not a problem if you also have a home freezer. A large commercial size SXS such as a SubZero would also solve this problem.
Be careful when you follow the masses, the M is sometimes silent.

Enough said right there. Sorry pal, but that's the way life is. If your wife wants a side by side... you get her a side by side.

If you use it more than she does.... you get her a side by side.

The glass fronted ones let you see the inside and know where to reach for something, but whatever dohicky you or she like, ... you get her what she wants.

You don't like bending? Take a yoga class.

Haha that is likely going to be the case.

I always say let them win the battles, but I will win the war. My problem is the narrow ass freezer. I keep explaining to her that we couldn't fit a turkey or a frozen pizza. Even the fridge side couldn't fit a pizza box.

I remember seeing a long time ago a sxs that had a funny shaped door. It made it so the top of fridge was really wide and the bottom of freezer is wide. We have been looking at these things all day but I haven't seen one of those yet.

Ok, here's the deal. The best fridge bar none is a bottom freezer. Think about it, what part of a fridge/freezer combo do we use most? The door and contents are at eye level for the most used items. The freezer which is used less [the roll out ones] is on the bottom, will hold a turkey and thermodynamically cool air falls and warm air rises.

If that doesn't blow her skirt up for ya, then get her a side by side with a bottom freezer and and ice maker. If that aint enough ass kissing than get a new wife.
