Re-read the Discussion about the Suspension List. If that doesn't get you to the end of day re-read the Hot Blonde thread. But don't forget to leave work at 5 o'clock :-)

Hahaha, yeah I just did 2 hours of work. My problem is that I am so good at what I do that I accomplish in 2 hours what all my other works get done in 4 or 5 hours. If I worked 8 hours at this pace I would probably get my hours cut.

I don't like viewing your chip thread because it makes me sad that I am not at any of those casinos. At one point I was adding 15 chips a year to my collection but now with 2 small kids that has dwindled down to almost nothing. 4 years ago we would drive somewhere but add a few hours because of all my detours to new casinos. Now I just want to get somewhere as quick as possible because extra time with a 2 year old in a car is no fun.

Yeah, even the discussion about long- versus short-cane didn't cause any ruckus :)

why do people sign their name at the end of a forum post? It makes no sense and annoys the crap out of me, even more than hey hey. On top of that they always space down like 4 spaces

Yeah, I saw him earlier; I don't have the ability to edit his profile and take that out, though I looked for a way. Banning him would accomplish nothing in that direction, and he hasn't posted. It's annoying.

Just got a call from 718-362-8024 in Brooklyn from a telemarketer wanting to make my life easier by selling me solar panels. I said I would consider them if they could make me ten years younger. He said he wasn't authorized but his supervisor could help. Supervisor asked me if I could get my electric bill so he could discuss it with me. I said sure, can you hold while I get it?

Cue the "On Hold" message for telemarketers. The guy was ripped! I listened on another phone and I can't repeat what I think he said through his heavy Indian accent.

No lectures please. My phone my rules.

Tonight I made steak for the first time in my life. I am not a huge steak eater basically because if I go to a steak house I am to cheap so I usually get a nicely done fish. Whenever I go to a Applebees or chain restaurant I am not getting a steak and I am WAYYYY to cheap to spend 20ish dollars on a home cooked meal. A few months ago the Rivers had a give away where they gave you a $15 coupon for meat. It may have been a fathers day giveaway. I ended up with 2 $15 steak vouchers. We ended up buying 2 Delmonico Steaks. I bought the thin ones because I have been having some teeth problems and figured it would be easier to eat. Anyways, so I cooked them tonight just using some salt, pepper, and a tiny bit of garlic. I also made red potato and garlic mashed potatoes and steamed carrots. The meal turned out really well and decently healthy.

A single and a play at the plate? For me it's a beautiful thing, but Hollywood wouldn't stand for that ending. The dramatic moment has to be a home run. Tragic moments must be strikeouts.

yeah, I hate it when people try to save money by eating cheap at home. That's not to say some "home economics" arent in order for most of us, but the way to save money is to not eat out so much.

and I do admit there is an irony to the fact that I would say that and actually like beans and rice [sometimes]. And not just as a side dish either, but as the main part of the meal. [either red beans or black beans, anymore esp the latter]

on the other hand, once I got married, forget that!

I'm not big on steak either (as opposed to my late dog who was positively fanatical about it, poor thing). Since I've taken up cooking, I've never made any because they're too simple to make. Really. Most tips about cooking steak focus on the quality of the meat. The rest is "season as little as possible," and "leave the meat alone as much as possible."

I prefer chicken breast. You also leave it alone, but it can be seasoned in various ways.

vintage as in used?

How much was it. It is so hard when looking at knives. You see ones for $1000 but that obviously just make it good. Then you see then ones on infomercials that can cut steel and still be sharp for $19.99.

My dad used to sell Cutco when he was a newlywed, 60 years ago. My mom has a complete set of knives, along with the cooking utensils (ladle, spatula, etc.) They are still amazingly good; not one has broken, and she's used them nearly every day.

If you're looking for quality, I'd suggest you check some vintage stores.

not sure I understand the usage of the word vintage. Cutco still makes knives.

I assume by vintage you mean ones that were manufactured years ago opposed to ones that are still being made today.

I'm guessing 60's. You can get the same
knife new for about a hundred bucks.
Cutco is good, but the old Cutco's are
better. This knife scares me it's so sharp.
And heavy. You want a somewhat heavy
knife so the weight does half the work.
But a slight mistake and you'll be at
emergency room getting stitches.

I sharpen a knife every time is use it.
I have a 'pull through' sharpener, pull
the blade through it 4/5 times and
slice away..

Yeah, it's been my experience that when it comes to kitchen tools and appliances, from Hamilton Beach mixers to knife sets to specialty utensils, if you can find things from the 30's thru the early 70's, the quality is SO much higher. And they're around, because everybody was a home cook back then.

Metals are lighter and cheaper alloys, much of the new stuff is plastic, and almost everything is designed for planned obsolescence rather than a lifetime.

Cutco used to make a chef quality knife,
the old ones are much better than the
new. You can buy far more expensive
knives now, but the old Cutco will be
of equal quality for a fraction of the cost.

I eat no processed food, it's all made from
scratch, even burger. So I need a sharp
knife to cut the meat into small sections.
And I use nothing but veggies and they
all need to be cut into small pieces for
the crock pot. A knife is the cooks one
indispensable kitchen tool

JETER!!!!!!

That is all. Thank you. Everything baseball is supposed to be, and one sweet, movie-worthy ending to his home field career.

A single and a play at the plate? For me it's a beautiful thing, but Hollywood wouldn't stand for that ending. The dramatic moment has to be a home run. Tragic moments must be strikeouts.

What if you're a pitcher?

Did you give up on your blog. Nothing new in a year.

I want to say no. If I ever find out how without telling a lie, I will ;)

Since we had our first son 2 years ago I do all of the cooking. This year for xmas I want a nice set of knives.

Ask for a nice knife sharpener, too.

This knife scares me it's so sharp.
And heavy. You want a somewhat heavy
knife so the weight does half the work.
But a slight mistake and you'll be at
emergency room getting stitches.

Just put whatever you lose in a plastic bag and stick it on ice for the trip in. These days you can put almost anything back on and still get some use out of it, except your head.

Although technically you could reattach that too, though it will only be for open casket purposes.
There's no secret. Just know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

Tools: sharp, heavy durable. Don't overlook commercial quality stuff for the kitchen, particularly if you will really use it such as juicers and blenders. That entire wall at Williams and Sonoma filled with plastic dohickeys for the kitchen is a joke. You will rarely use those items and they will never stand up to really rugged use; you will spend forever rummaging in drawers to find knick knacks.

Remember though.. its not ice but ice cold water. Ice burn on a severed finger makes the job difficult.

We got a real pretty looking set of stainless steel knives for a gift when we got married, that stored in a wood block and everything, not cheap, believe me [we used a gift certificate so I know]. They really sucked. One of them basically could not be sharpened at all.

Now we use a French brand that is not stainless steel. You have to be careful to clean and dry them all the time. All the difference in the world though, for getting sharp and holding an edge.

Stainless steel knives evidently can be very good if they are using the right stuff. Carbon content? Not sure, but actually I think that SS taking over the knife world was a bad thing, as evidently this allows the appearance of quality without necessarily providing it.
